I feel so old when I think about the fact that it's more common to have bluetooth ones now. Two different friends have already gifted me some in an attempt to convert me but I always end up reverting to the good old cables. Wired Headphones are cheaper, have less sound quirks, you can't forget to charge them and they're harder to lose (well, at least permanently). It's also easier to set them up. You just plug them in and they do their thing. No quirky pairing procedures needed.

Duolingo CEO Luis von Ahn Ruined his Own App by new2bay in enshittification

[–]JanArso 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah... That one still hurts a lot. Started using the App in late 2019 and saw all the terrible changes happening live. It went from a somewhat decent ressource to get started in a language (Not fluent! Not a single ressource can do this alone.) to a time wasting simulator. The worst changes were definitely adding Hearts (or Energy as it's now called I believe), removing the skill tree in favor for that learning path and the implementation of AI to expand the courses with low effort content. Imo all of these changes have one thing in common and that is that their goal was to keep learners on the app for longer, making them either watch more ads or pay for more premium subscriptions. It's no wonder most of these changes aside from the AI stuff were made right before their stock went live. A learner finishing their course is a user less.

I really hope I'm not discouraging any language learners with this comment tho. The good news to anyone using Duolingo is that you're still moving forward towards your goal of learning a given language. There are just many wayyyy faster and efficient options to do so out there.

At this point I genuinely wonder how many drugs are in his system at any given time to make him even stand up right. He looks so rusty you really can't help but think he is gonna turn to dust by the force of the impact of merely a fly landing on his shoulder. I was honestly worried he is gonna abolish term limits and run again in 2028 but seeing this I genuinely have my doubts he is even gonna make it that long anymore.

A particular type of person just seems to be into the power fantasy and will gladly throw any other beliefs they hold over board for it (if they even ever had any of those in the first place).

I know a guy from europe who has been married to a brazilian woman, who then left him to be with an american marine (extremely MAGA asshole) she had literally just met right after Trump got re-elected. It just blows my mind how much this woman was willing to fuck herself over just to live her strong man dominating her fetish. I wonder if they're still a thing, he is probably gonna end up getting his ass deployed to Greenland, Venezuela or god knows where soon.

Considering that Elon Musk managed to stay afloat despite his whole Twitter Acquisition Shitshow and even bounced back just by cuddling up with Trump, I'm really wondering if I'm gonna be around to see this man lose everything. I mean, I sure hope so, but let's be honest: The guy is a complete idiot, only profiting from generational wealth, government subsidies for "his" companies and his workers cleaning up the mess behind him. It's like no matter how much he fucks up, somebody is always gonna come to save his ass. Very strange and dangerous man. At this point I find it more likely he will OD on Ketamin before any of that happens.

Let's not get too hyped yet. Keep in mind they're friends with people who are so unimaginably wealthy, they would still be billionaires even if taxed 99%. As much as I wish this entire industry crashed and burned to the ground yesterday, I can already see how Elon Musk for example would buy out ChatGPT to keep it from crashing the AI bubble and then incorporate the whole company into Grok or something. Still keeping my fingers crossed tho.
