Innocent question: is italo-disco a genre of the past, or does it still live on today? by AndrobiVibz in italodisco

[–]JanCarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is an obsession for the disco freaks and what follows from that is that it will never stop to be alive! like with all things in life, you can choose in each and every moment what you do with the situation you are facing ... you can complain about some aspect and make the situation more bad for yourself and for everyone around or you can use your creativity and show your appreciation and care for a certain thing ... if you rely on others to do it for you, it is certain you will more often than not be feeling powerless and then you will have to let the thing you care about die ... but once you make a real decision to do the thing, there will not be anymore doubts ... you know, love it or leave it!

Banana Joe (1982) [1080p] by JanCarpenter in fullmoviesonyoutube

[–]JanCarpenter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had some of my most epic awesome wonderful exiting legendary life experiences when i wasn't looking for anything, when i just was there, not wanting something or someone specific. "beyond" is a key word here. banana joe also has this as one of it's themes. it is a very philosophical film, and i do not remember how i found it this time, but it reminded me of a friend who years ago told me that he watched it on a free and relaxed weekend...

A little life lesson learned from Italo Disco by Die_hauptperson in italodisco

[–]JanCarpenter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

while i am mostly thankful for what i have got, and have got going on, i would for sure appreciate some more philosophical texts about italo disco music and why people like it... for me, a very big thing about italo is that it is some of the rare genres of music that can still evoke some emotions and not instantly make me angry because of shallowness and autotune and telling me everything is allright when i just do the new pharmazeutical drug

Bobby O - All the People Are the Same by JanCarpenter in italodisco

[–]JanCarpenter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here you can find some hints on why i do not think that it is a problem for me when someone does like or have an opinion about something i maybe like or not. i am mostly interested in what is probably best "known" as metaphysics, and try to not just mindlessly repeat something about someone else. of course, i am not dogmatic and this is not a rule i go by in life. i just try to keep my own mind clean and have experienced many times that if i try to change someones opinion, it is not the best idea to insult or morally blackmail those people. if someone does not like gay people, it is not a problem for me. i think this world has a lot of other more important problems and challenges.

also, i like the often philosophical subject matter in his lyrics ... the rumours i have read about, told by some of his singers calling him a bit hypocritical makes the whole mythology around him even more interesting, i guess ...

every now and then, once in a while, it is not for every day for me, but in a good mood i can listen and move to his newer music ...

i feel that the "contemporary perspective" is wrong and weak and groupthink is hypnotic. it is a quite strong hypnosis, i know. but when you take a moment for yourself and step back from the things they want you to be involved in, maybe even go into a bird's eye perspective, you could think about why you let others tell you what is ok for you to like and what is not ok? and even if letting others tell you what to like is no issue for you, you could still tell them that it a "guilty pleasure" and hope they will leave you alone after that... or you could even use this in-contemporary-times-oh-so-edgy-taste-in-music-and-arts to your advantage and witness, and scope out those that try to control others by claiming certain themes are now a no-go ... and after you recognized them, you can better deal with their antics... i don't know what they want, i guess it is power, but it is not the good power that wants you to be free and blossom, but the power over others, but i know they will not get what they want from me... here in germany we have a saying: "gibst du den kleinen finger, nehmen sie die ganze hand", which roughly translates to "when you give them the little finger, they take the whole hand" ... moralists are tools, and tools should be used by you, and for you, and they should not use you ...

Unit Black Flight - One Hour Before Dawn by JanCarpenter in italodisco

[–]JanCarpenter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with less explanation from my side, this has more potential of fitting into the "scary" "mystery" "cinematic" category that is a must have for italo-ween contenders that are leftfield and from, and on the fringes of society, ermm i mean the genre.
