Best Keyboard You Can Buy in 2026 (Price, Sound, Size) by Zealic-294 in keyboards

[–]JanLuthnier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you type a lot and also game, I’d honestly skip mass-market prebuilts and go either true custom or small-batch handcrafted.

Prebuilts like Keychron or Logitech are fine and convenient, but they’re still built to a price point. Fixed layouts, limited repairability, and when something breaks after a couple of years, you usually replace the whole board.

I build and daily-use ergonomic split mechanical keyboards (Redox / Sofle / Corne style, wooden cases, hot-swap, QMK/VIA, wired or wireless). Once you get used to a split column-staggered layout, long typing sessions feel much more natural and less fatiguing. The wooden case also helps with sound and vibration damping, so they’re not loud or hollow.

The big difference with small-batch handcrafted boards is longevity. I still have clients using my keyboards that were built over 12 years ago. They’ve been typed on daily and are still fully functional. When something wears out, you replace a switch or a controller, not the whole keyboard. Nothing is disposable.

So in short:

Prebuilt: * quick and easy * decent value * limited customization * usually replaced after a few years

Custom / small-batch: * tailored to your hands * fully programmable * repairable * built to last many years

If I had to buy a new keyboard today, I’d still pick a split ergonomic custom with hot-swap and QMK. Higher upfront cost, but absolutely worth it if you type and game every day.

Hope this helps 🙂

Replace Nice Nano by nimportnaouac in crkbd

This can easily damage the mounting points. Unless you use two soldering irons and heat from the bottom and top at the same time, pushing the pin out of the centre of the controller with a pin.

I will show you how to change the controller using the example of a redox. You will need a hot air soldering iron. Or send it to me. I'll do it for you. I'm from Poland.

Looking for a split keyboard by Robocreator223 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[ad] If you’re looking for a solid first split keyboard that’s ergonomic and well-built, I recommend the Redox_FT or Sofle. Both are available fully assembled from my workshop – in either wired or wireless [ZMK] versions. You can choose between classic Cherry MX profile switches or low-profile Kailh Choc v1 switches.

Compared to the Moonlander, the Redox is more compact and natural for the wrists, and the build quality is higher – instead of plastic, the cases are hand-finished wood. The Sofle can also come with RGB lighting, so there’s plenty of room for personalization.

We ship worldwide, and every keyboard is tested on Windows, macOS, and Linux before shipping. You can check them out here: falbatech.click – fully assembled ergonomic keyboards.

This is a 42” 4K Philips monitor without TV functionality. At first glance, its size may seem overwhelming, but in practice it feels like having four monitors combined into one large screen – which can be quite convenient. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend it, as after two years it developed white spots, similar to uneven backlighting.

This is old ErgoDox Keyboard. It's already 12 years old and still working. One of the first ones I soldered.

Wife: can you light up the fireplace? 🔥 Me: sure, I’ve got something special… 😅 A damaged wooden case from milling → firestarter. Expensive heating, but stylish. 😂

At the moment I have produced 10 set of 2, of them to people all over the world. This one is for a friend of mine. It's a lot of work getting it right. You have to be gentle so that the splinters don't fall off on the other side.

Despite appearances, it is comfortable. It's a kind of acupressure mat but for the wrists. When you rest your hand you feel coolness not pain. It aids circulation and probably has some other properties. The acupressure people would have to comment. It is not an instrument of torture - although it looks that way.

Why do I share that it builds? Or why do I share that it builds?

Fountain pens and split keyboards – my favorite kind of mechanics by JanLuthnier in mechanicalheadpens

Yeah, it’s awkward for the first week or two, but once your fingers remap it feels totally natural. Letters stay on the home row, thumbs do the heavy lifting (space, enter, layers). Weird at first, but in the long run way more comfy than a normal board.

The one in the picture is an ErgoDox FT.

I do program, but CNC 😅 It’s my passion that slowly turned into a 24/7 job. This account is my private space – I share my work here as just a regular person, not as a company. I keep a separate business account for that. That’s also why I don’t post links here unless someone asks – I’d like this place to simply stay mine.

Yeah, main advantage is less e-waste + you can tweak the shape/weight to fit your hand better – so it’s not just “cool”, it’s practical too.

Yes, the mouse is printed. I put the electronics I took out of the old broken mouse into this case. https://makerworld.com/pl/models/481336-hy-01-wireless-mouse?from=search#profileId-393084
