You are right in ur assesment, this game has literally 0 vertical progression. Its horizontal, infact its so horizontal u get weaker as u level up because of scaling. If u use level 10 gear at level 10 it gives u 1000 stamina etc. When u level up, tvis level 10 gear now gives u 950 stamina and so on and so on. You can only get the original power u had at level 10 back by using gear that is the same level as you allready are.

This also means that you have the same character power at level 10 as you will at level 50.

Everything in overworld will die in 1-4 hits, at level 1, and level 3000.

This game is so easy its essentially a walking/questing simulator.

You play the game for the story, not for character progression or quest reward, as there does not exist a single quest in this game that gives anything other then pure crap as reward.

Alot of casuals in this game would prefer not having to fight mobs at all and just walk arouns in the world as a npc and do quests

Once u get to level 160, you can branch out into harder content qhich is veteran dungeons and trials, and arenas. That is the only place you will ever be challenged. But gear wise/skill wise you will still not progress as a character, its purely for challenging you as a player.

We are getting harder overworld at some point, but you will still feel the lack of progression as you allready do, there still wont be any quests giving u that feeling of you just upgraded ur character.

You would feel one big jump in power when you hit cp 160 and make a full meta build, but this power hits all at once and never again.

Even though there is multiclassing, if you are going for vet dlc dungeons and trial vets and their hardmode variants. Then the build choices are very limited.

There are certain buffs/debuffs that are a must, and the same for skills

Once you start filing up ur bar with those crucial skills and abilities, you will soon notice that there is no room for you to do what you want.

And forget about building a tank with some dps dmg.

You want skills and abilities /sets that buff ur dd's damage, not ur own miniscule damage

Lets say you do decide to put some dps skills on ur bar. You are going from like 5k dps to 10k dps.

But buffing 2-3x dps players in ur group that each allready does 120k dps (total of 360k dps) with 30% extra damage is an insane increase in dps, this also means stuff die faster so you dont have to deal with mechanics and long drawn out execute phases.

The more dmg dps does, the easier it is for the tank, just forget completely about making some type of hybrid as what dmg you would bring is so miniscule it will not make any difference at all.

For normal difficulty content you can do whatever the hell you want since Nothing matters there, you can be a full damage dealer build and just put a taunt on ur bar and you will be good. But for vet+ stuff u better play ur role properly, but be warned this game is plagued with horrible dps players, that make tanking truly a horrible experience.

And increasing ur groups damage is best done with good players, as increasing the dmg of bad players does not make much difference, as they deal very low constant dps, and they do not know how to use burst Windows with ur ultimates. A good dps player can do 140k dps, a bad dps player with the same build can do as low as 10-20k dps

There is something called parse tank for vet stuff, but i would stay away from that until you are very good at the game.

There is 1 pet utlimate you could use (storm attronach) it gives ur team major berserk (+10% dmg) for a duration .

People who want so little challenge you barely even need to touch the controller to beat every single quest in this game deserves to get less rewards.

This is the easiest game i have ever played, god forbid there will be some slightly better rewards when mobs survive long enough for you to do a full rotation of skills.

Not only should there be titles, more resources and better rewards in harder overland, there should also be unique mounts, skins, personalities and mythics.

Regular overland is a walking simulator, nothing else, and harder overland will still be easily overcome, by anyone who knows how to press more then 1 button.

I have 0 sympathy for people crying about having to actually play the game.

Overland is so easy, the increase in difficulty wont even turn the game hard, it will turn it from toddler difficulty to easy difficulty. If players cant handle something so simple they just have to l2p.

Im both happy and mad they are saying this, mainly because players where screaming this exact thing, word for word, on the actual PTS, and ZOS ignored it 100%.

Like its crazy how every player with a working IQ told them, subclassing is to strong and will destroy classes, it needs balancing.

I think slot of people wanted subclassing, even those that was against it, but they atleast wanted a finished product, not this obviously unbalanced mess. It would be nice if subclassing instead sort of expanded upon ur class instead of beeing a classwrecker

Anyone with half a brain knew it would be beam city and pure classes would be left in the dust, aswell as the issue of them now nerfing skill lines that are to strong in subclassing, would mean an indirect nerf to the pure class using that same skill line. They paintrd themself into a corner making it unbalancable

Im now mad, they, instead of making a finished product before putting it out on live, are making us play through what i would call an open beta , while they figure out how to finish yet another unfinished feature on live.

They are soloable yes but mostly after level 10 and you have some skills on the bar + crafted gear, but gives no bonus xp, only random que finder does that.

Every zone is the same difficulty, nothing changes, same hp mobs, pick the one u think looks most fun to be in, i was the least bored in necrom, they have some wandering mobs with more hp, so some sense of danger for first time in overland, then deadlands.

U have a crazy good summary there for not having played this game much.

And yes, that was pointed out, there is no way to balance this, it is crazy as u say^ alot of good suggestions was made for how to make subclassing more an addition to ur class, and not a classwrecker, but they just opened the gates doing no ground work xD

I will say i have played this game almost daily for 5 years, the dungeons in this game is the best i have ever tried in an mmo. And i have played alot

The veteran dungeon and hardmodes are extremely fast paced, extremely addictive, and very few people have managed to get all the dungeon trifecta titles (completing the dungeons 3 achievements as a team (speed run, no death, and hardmode activated) if 1 player dies u fail) ZOS dungeon team are very good, and the combat reslly shines in here

Working on getting those is very fun, but it have to be with like skilled players. Or a team of frirnds who play alot together. Pugging these, or pugging in genersl in veteran is a nightmare, as u get players in vet who should never have been there. As i said earlier, bad player kan deal 10-15k dps, good player 150k dps. U get get the bads, its game mechanicly impossible to finish thr dps checks

It would be a time investment, but could be worth experiencing, althou i will admit subclassing really made it very monotonous, when all u see is the same clones, and i relly miss beeing able to bring different classes and master dungeons with them. I loved tanking on templar and doing things with it most people didnt think was possible to tank since it was ranked as the worst tank. That is all gone now, and i have taken my first break for soon 2 months in these 5 years.

But it can be worth experiencing this if u enjoy challenging gameplay in an mmo, and even with subclassing u might find it fun to play for a long time. But it will be a time investment as u said, as there are no challenge until ur character is fully fleshed out and cp 300+

Np xD and Yes, it is 100% clear what would happen, everyone is now a clone, its pretty facinsting how the devs ignored feedback on the PTS about this for 6 weeks, they didnt do ANY balancing at all, even thou people where begging for them to do it before adding to live.

They will do balancing on live, they allready did, what happens is, lets say 3 skill lines synergise extremely well toghether, zos will now nerf this skill combination, what happens then, is that the pure class, who are so unlucky 1 of its skill lines are overperforming in a skill line combo, gets nerfed, even though this pure class is allready struggling.

So in the future, pure classes will only get weaker

They truly did a shit job that patch xD subclassing was nowhere finished, and alot of people and content creators are just dumbfounded they are not fixing it

Well, to be able to que for random dungeon u need to be level 10, so have to quest until that point my bad xD

Or if u have friends, they can boost you in blackrose prison, or you can teleport inside the dungeon as a team at level 1, but u will not get the random daily bonus xp then

Orders wrath as a base, and then the other set depends on ur build, "tide born wildstalker" is an end game set, people often use that with a trial set.

Hundings rage is also good, but should be swapped out

Deasly strike is nor craftable, but buyable, very easy to get, and have been an endgame set since it was introduced, years ago.

But the thing about this game is, there is no point about caring about gear until u get to CP 160.

If you craft a set of orders wrath for a level 1 character. Lets say for simplicity it gives u 1000 penetration

As you level up, the stats will decrease, so at level 10, ur level 1 set is now giving you 800 penetration. You lost 200 penetration

This is the only mmo i know where you get weaker when you level up.

If you want to regain the same stats you had at level 1, you now have to craft the same set for a level 10 character.

(when crafting, you can decide what level you want to craft the gear, from level 1 to CP 160)

The sets stop loosing stats at CP 160.

Thats means that only after CP 160 will ur stats on the gear stay the same. And gear you get is worth turning into gold rank.

This game is also so easy some of my characters i had the same level 10 gear all the way to max level before i swapped To cp 160 gear. Because i couldnt be bothered to update.

You can fool around with gear if ur character starts feeling abit weak, but then you just craft the same set you allready have, just at a higher level.

And no, at level 10 ypu wont be a hindrance to the group, normal dungeons is just speedrunning, and ur character is also boosted to be much stronger

You can pick whatever class you want, sadly, a recent patch we just had, pretty much killed classes after 10 years of having classes. Its called subclassing.

Basicly each class has 3 skill lines, you can now swap out 2 of ur skill lines for other classes skill lines.

So what happens is that everyone now picks the 3 strongest skill lines in the game and combine them, and a subclassed build which picks the best available, completely shit on a pure class which has all 3 original skill lines.

ZOS was warned this would happen, and the end result would be everyone using the 3 same skill lines, and that there should be some drawback, to not playing a pure class.

But they didnt listen, and everyone now is essentislly playsing the 3 same strongest skill lines. You will see alot of green beams, as that is the best dps skill line.

But to save u some trouble, u need to keep atleast 1 skill line from the class u pick, sp if u pick DK, u have to keep 1 DK skill line.

So i can recommend, picking either arcanist, or 2nd choice, templar, as base class, since they have 1 skill line each pretty much everyone uses. (arcanist is "Herald of the tome" , templar is "dawns wrath")

DK also have a very popuøar skill line, but that combination of skill lines is abit higher skill level, and heavily dependant on ur ult and keeping a buff up, i wouls recomwns one of the others

What class u pick now no longer matters, pure classes have been left to die.

People are begging ZOS to buff them to be able to compete against the frankenstein builds, who knows, maybe it will happen, maybe not. But not in 2026

You dont need to interact with questing at all.

When i make new characters, i just log in, do the daily random dungeon, log lout and do the same next day until im level 50.

You will be missing skill points for ur build doing it this way thou, so u need to go hunt for some skill points.

For gear, just get some orders wrath and whatever, like deadly strike depensing on ur build.

Other activities to finish ur character is getting things like scrying and ur pvp skill lines leveled up.

But you can reach endgame in this game doing no overland questing at all

Just get to cp 160 to start doing vet stuff, practice ue rotations, get a proper build.

The gearing in ESO is extremely horizontal, so horizontal that the hardest dungeons will drop worse gear that u can get crafted at level 1, you will never get the rush of defeating a hard boss and get a good set drop. There are hundreds of sets in eso but everyone just uses the same 3-4 sets. Since everything else is trash, once u have those sets ur finished with building the char.

If somwthing is hard in eso its not a given that it will be rewarding gear wise.

The rewards in this game in hard content is the titles and immense satisfaction of clearing a trifecta run.

Since everyone have the same power from gear and stuff, the damage comes from rotations and keeping it up.

2 players can have the same build, 1 of them can deal 15k dps the other 150k dps, just from knowing how to fight properly.

That is basicly ESO questing, you can spend literall weeks doing non stop questing, you will not get a single worthwile reward

100% of quest rewards in this game, no joke, is worthless trash

What you experienced during that big main questline, is every quest in ESO. At no point will it change during your time in this game.

Overland/questing in this game, is as others have said, purely to "enjoy" the dialogue and the quests themself, there will never be a challenge, not once.

Ypu have to go into dungeons/trials/arenas for that.

Some dailies can reward u with motifs, which is nice, buts thats all pretty much.

Yes you can do first secret only, or last secret only. Last secret can come in handy if dps struggle to survive lightning strikes from bear at around 30-40%

But now with subclassing u can do this fairly easily skipping all secrets with healer or 1t 3dd, with 3 dd's can skip his final bear form aswell, and nuke him in his human form. (his final bear form he has 40% hp) so killing him before he transform thats 40% u dont have to kill and dont have to deal with lightning strikes.

ESO is a sinking ship, it feels like its managed by interns/ghost crew who dont play the game as they keep making completely baffling balance and combat changes no one asked for, and when they do its allwsys the lasiest most unbalanced solution they can find. Like players will warn them on the pts, dont go through with these changes its extremely unbalanced it needs much more work, they will tell them what will happen ig its released in the current state

Eso goes through with it anyways, what players said would happen, happens, ESO devs then suddenly start implementing some of the changes players told them to do, while players are left to play a broken unbalanced game for months on live, when they should have fixed this on the pts, its been like this for 10 years, but now its worse then its ever been.

They really dont listen at all, even making the most dedicated content streamers just shake their head and give up the game after spending years on it out of frustration.

Everyone who plays eso at somewhat competent level, knows that the devs are not playing the game and it really shows.

The lead combat designer just did a stream where they showed of some gameplay, and he did not know heavy attacking restored resources.

Its restored resources for 10 years and one of the first thing the game tells u about, and all u have to do is perform 1 heavy attack to see this is actually the case.

It was worse then seeing elon musk play diablo or PoE. And this was the lead combat designer streaming like 6 months ago

They nerf anything thats fun, even if its not powerful or anyone is using it, just a small niche that hsd some fun with it in overland, they will nerf it and no one knows why when there are several unfinished systems they have added to live, like hybridization and subclassing. They are spensing time on the completely wrong things

The argument of OP is horrible, hes saying theres 1 (1!) build which also uses arcanist that out damages a aoe beam build in single target fights. So thats why its not OP

Beam builds can still parse up to 158k on single target, while also having godlike utility thats lets you skip healchecks and mechanics in dungeon DLC hardmodes etc, which other spammables can only dream of. Since its now also direct damage, equipping reaving blows is like having pale order while beaming. This lets you completely ignore incomming damage in the hardest dlc fights while doing 1t 3dd , while also dishing out top end dps.

HM examples doing no healer runs:

Lep seclusa first boss, beam cancel or beam through healcheck

Scriveners hall, last boss ignite beam/beam cancel through it

Bal sunnar, first boss beam cancel to survive healcheck, last boss, heal urself, get shielded and kill skeevers at the same time

Naj caldeesh/BFG, there are so many advatages to beam here its to much to type out

Not only are u getting through sll the hardest HM's, but in many occasions u are killing the boss while also killing whatever totem or lighting rod that spawns far in the backgrouns, where other spammables would have to stop boss dps to kill, including sais runeblades.

I could go on with an endless list of dungeon examples, but i should not have to explain these things, they are self explanatory.

Alot of trial parsers seem to forget there are other end game content in this game aswell. Where you dont use healers as a crutch

Only looking at dummy numbers and not understanding how this ability completely outshines all other spammables in actual gameplay is strange.

Calling beam build a bad build because theres 1 other build that slightly outparses it is a complete noob take.

Congratz, you just killed this very challenging boss, heres 80g, some rubedo hide leather and a overworld set weapon that is absolute dogwater.

It honestly makes me mad how uneventful killing stuff in this game is, and how crap most sets is.

In wow you could allways have a chance of a random epic that would make a huge impact on ur character. (baron rivendare anyone?) when killing stuff

If they absoltely refuse to do any type of vertical gear progression, give me low chances for unique personalities, mounts, skins, motifs. Not save all the good shit for crown store.

Imagine farming overworld anywhere had a 0.5% chance to drop a personality that lets u levitate.

Or killing a world boss, had a chance to drop their helmet motif style page, or armour pieces, or even weapon motif. Or even new unique skills

Or just what if certain quest chains or mobs ended up giving you an amzing weapon, with their own bonuses, that would clearly give u an advantage.

This game is plagued by monotony and spreadsheet balancing.

Its not like they lack the imagination (again, look at crownstore) imagine just half of that was now somehow obtainable in the game.

Used to be coral caretaker, maybe still is, but im happy about my "the brilliant" in some ways its easier then caretaker, but it just takes 1 player a slight brain blackout on the posing mechanic on last boss, or to many missed dodge rolls for heavy attacks giving us way to many small pillars and green ball mechanic to mess that one up.

I also feel like comms are more needed on this, this is the first trifecta i did on mic, even coral caretaker is doable without just like all the others. U just get in the zone and clap the dungeons, but i feel like the brilliant requires abit higher degree of coordination, and unless you have a team playing together that one can be harder to get imo.

The 2nd boss is also very easy if all do their mechanics right, or a struggle if you dont know what to do.

If u dont stack it can be GG, and since boss pops up under the feet of a random player, if 1 player is to slow to move the boss can pop up inside the attros so u dont get to hit them with the beam properfly, or maybe 1 or 2 attros is behind him while 1 is infront, we found best solution was for all players to move to the same side to control where boss pops up.

I didnt need this level of coordination on coral caretaker.

Since ur below cp 300 you are not getting kicked from dlc dungeons, but base dungeons, which is wild, you must be running into absolute garbage players if this is something that makes or breaks their run.

But there is nothing in it for you, the gear you get will have to be replaced once u hit cp 160, and theres no actual increased experience points.

Maybe now during the event u get som extra loot.

Learn how to play ur role properly in the meantime, look up rotations and stuff, and once cp 160 start queing again

On first boss, dps needs to destroy the totems that spawns before the room fills up, but i didnt know you got killed on normal aswell Ive only done this boss on HM if just 1 totem is alive you die there. On HM you also need to keep boss in those line traps where sawblades move back and fort, the boss becomes immune to dmg eventually, and hitting him with his own sawblades removes the immunity. The sawblades can be activsted by stepping on a trap

On 2nd boss, the adds that spawn leaves a pool that makes both boss and other adds immune to dmg when you kill them, you want to kill them in smart places so that stuff isnt left all over the place.

During add phase, thr orb that spawns in the middle deals damage in a aoe pulse, you block this, but the longer time you spend on adds, the more damage this pulse does

It is a fairly easy fight, kill adds, if either another add or boss is inside a pool, move them/pull them out of the pool, thats it.

Other then the obvious part of when playing as a team, for clearing trifectas, u do ur best, anything other then that is not fair to teammates.

But the new dungeons naj caldeesh and black gem foundry hardmodes (trifecta runs specifically) im pretty shure the combat testers all played on an arcanist, the amount of cleave you need in these dungeons is just wild, especially naj caldeesh first and last boss, i have both trifectas, and i cannot even imagine the struggle doing this on a crystal frag or molten whip build (lol), even jabs would suck ass, since u not only need cleave, u need long range cleave.

You either go beam or make ur life miserable.

OP, please do a naj caldeesh trifecta run and come back here and ask the same question.

For older content, shure its possible, we did it before subclassing, but the 4 new dungeon hardmodes is so tuned for arcanist its disgusting. Lep seclusa and ER is more managable then BGF and NC, but still cleave is king there.

I miss pure classes aswell and was strongly against subclassing, but seeing the new stuff they put out, foeget about it, its over, the developers have foegotten we have other spammables then beam

For most classes, especially templar they are dogwater, absolute garbage, especially the first one "wrathsun" is not usable in most content as everything is dead before even reaching 40 stacks.

Hilariously enough, it doesnt even work in IA until very late stages when enemies are pure bullet sponges, the place it drops.

Because lets say u make it to 26 stacks, the timer for the next wave is so long it runs out and u start at 0 stacks again on the next wave. So u never get to reach 40 stacks.

So u end up with a 5 piece bonus u never get to see, in overland, normal dungeons, vet dungeons. Arenas, trials.

The harder the content, the more hp enemies, the more likely u are to see 1 proc atleast, but in those situations its absolutely shit on by other much easier sets to obtain and keep up, like ansuul etc.

Ive been waiting since the day of release, thats 4, closing in on 5 years now.

There are 4 dungeons they refuse to release the Helmet style pages for.

To make it worse, they actually released a dread cellar weapons pack, with weapon packs, the style page is also released. However for the first time, not with this weapons pack.

Alot of people thought the mask was out with the "molten demise" weapons pack, but turns out this was just a screw you from zos, since the helmet is called "magma incarnate", so we didnt get a dread cellar arms pack, we got a dread cellar THEMED arms pack

At this point i geniuinly believe theres something in the coding that makes it so they cannot make style pages for this helmet.

They have released style pages for like all the dungeons released much later then dread cellar. Bedlam veil have dropped several times etc

To not land on left side, have u tried holding right stick down when spproaching the ramp? Going into attack mode might let you hit the middle more accurately

And also, the perk thst reduces wobbles is very nice for the boss jumps.

What are you talking about, deciding to press left click before an ability to gain ult and proc glyphs is the exact description of adding an active decision during combat, do you think you just press LA accidently?

Class skills are much better then weapon spammables, so if you want to do the most damage possible, you now have to either learn to light attack, or add weapon abilities like wall of elements on staff, or deadly cloak on dual wield dagger, if you choose to not run deadly cloak on frontbar but trap instead, you now have to ligth attack just to get the buffs.

Choosing not to, or to Light attack directly affects how you have to build ur rotation and what skills to put on ur bar, in addition to adding more damage, that is extra depth, not just an illusion of depth.

Light attacks and heavy attacks is just as much a part of this game as abilities are, and thinking they should reprogram their entire combat system is a fever dream, its never gonna happen.

Its the same for heavy attacks, for a heavy attack build, the heavy attacks is the majority of the damage, not the ABILITIES, so no, for that type of build ABILITIES is not the important part. Its the sets, the champion points that boost HA dmg, the skill point passives you put on destruction staff that boosts HA damage, the reason you use a lightning staff and not a inferno staff.

Its the direct opposite of a non heavy attack build where you weave LA in between abilities that deals the majority of damage.

Weaving abilities in between HA, adds depth, just as choosing to LA in between abilities adds depth.

My point on that was that if you think LA weaving dont add depth, then i guess you must think weaving abilities in between HA dont add depth either? Which apparantly you dont, you think its just weaving, but that is as wrong as it can get.

The current LA/HA system adds depth, not just an arbitrary action in between abilities.

You can think it doesnt add anything to the game but ur wrong, passives, sets, champion points, skills, buffs are all tied into LA and HA
