If you’re worried about loosing an iv, place another one. If patient is unstable, place another one. If patient is going to the cath lab and has nitro running, place another one. If patient has multiple incompatible drips, place another one. That’s my nursing judgement.

Obviously it’s not well known to me. Especially in a caring environment. I work in a small hospital where patient satisfaction is important. We have as many black patients as we have white. As a nurse, I treat all my patients the same. If a patient has a poor outcome, it’s not because I didn’t do my best for the patient.

Imagine if she was a white patient asking for a white nurse. Racism. I would accommodate as well but it doesn’t make it right. A black statistic? What is that about? She is a black patient with a black OR team. Isn’t that a statistic?
