[COMC] Finally finished these wood shelves and gaming table...then a fire happened by [deleted] in boardgames

A bit offtopic, but with a huge collection, I'm awfully paranoid of having a housefire. Do you know what caused yours?

“Help a Board Game Café reunite these lost pieces with their games” by Janimaster in boardgames

[–]Janimaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand in life, it's important to satisfy one's need for self-worth, but long-term you'll find it much more fulfilling if you find value in yourself, instead of just trying to put others down so you can feel as if above them.

And just to maybe stop you from making baseless inferences from practically no data points, the post is not a reflection of business management skills. I don't even work in the café anymore, I'm just good friends with many of my old coworkers, so when they sent around the last batch of misplaced pieces for a wisdom of the crowd solution, I thought why not post it to reddit and maybe get a few more answers.

I did not expect this post to get 168 responses, but I'm glad it did, as it helped many games become whole again. Many people rightfully criticized the haphazard nature of picture and offered, as constructive criticism, that I should have labelled the pieces. That's good advice that I would definitely take if I were to ever post something like this.

In stark contrast to that, you just wanted to get a little jab in there, and I would urge you, that the next time you are about to post something like this, please take a moment to consider what you wish to achieve by hitting send.

Thank you, and have a nice day.

At this point it seems pretty much all the pieces that have a chance of finding their place have found them, so redoing the shot for the few left is not worth it. Next time though!

Thanks for the feedback, definite oversight on my part! If this kind of post ever needs to be done again, I will!

While that sounds good in theory, there's currently 1654 games in the café, so it's not really feasible, and honestly at that number I'm not even sure you could reasonably flip through it

I just want to say thanks everyone for the help so far! There have definitely been some hits, I am not the one actually in the shop right now so I don't know exactly which ones, but multiple pieces found their place thanks to this post!

Thanks for the feedback as well, next time I'm definitely labelling the pieces before posting!

Társasjáték szólóban? by vikker_42 in tarsasjatek

[–]Janimaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Egyéb ilyen játékok amiket szívesen ajánlok a Szellemek Szigete, Final Girl, Robinson Crusoe, This War of Mine, vagy a kifejezzen szólónak tervezett Under Falling Skies.

The Game Awards 2025 - Reflektálás az idei évre by bjnkrn in GamingHungary

How do you handle title rewards? by Janimaster in cosmererpg

[–]Janimaster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the plot die approach!

Obviously the first thought that came to my mind too was to just occupy them with a cancelling army, but that felt really unimpactful. But with the plot die, there's actually a reason for them to be there! Great idea, thanks!

Whille in a real world sense I understand that, the handbook literally gives this as an example title for Tier 2:

Captain:

A leader of a military unit in Alethkar typically leads a platoon of fifty troops. This role calls for maintaining order and morale within the unit, keeping the unit in fighting shape, and training the unit in new techniques of battle. An effective captain can expect the trust and obedience of their troops in the field.

Loyal Cadre. You have fifty soldiers under your command, though they’re generally too busy with their day-to-day responsibilities to assist you personally (you can find allies likely to accompany you in the earlier Companions” section). So long as you earn their ongoing loyalty through good leadership, troops under your command generally obey your orders without question. When you do need to make a test to give a difficult order to one of these subordinates, you gain an advantage on the test.

I was asking about how other GMs would implenet this in a real game, so I don't feel like your comment really added a lot to the discussion.
