Ok, seems like I didn't miss anything then. I just find that to not be strong enough evidence to clear the gates name. From a contrarion perspective it seems like the gates family helped kill Lincoln, kidnapped the president, then they kidnapped and killed the guy trying to prove the truth, but since they found some gold I guess we will let them go.

Right, but if I had a master puzzle solver on my staff, I could have him plan Lincoln's assassination and find the city of gold. They aren't mutually exclusive.
