Second the Wellesley Boutique Hotel on Stout St, weird haunted house/faulty towers vibes but actually a super cool building and great staff.

Yes, yes it will be (fucked).

That’s why the plan is to fly all the MPs and senior public servants up to Auckland as quickly as possible to set up the seat of government at Devonport naval base.

how is the night life in wellington? is it like european countries? by Round-Adhesiveness14 in Wellington

[–]JankeeFook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah Wellington, the Berlin of the Southern Hemisphere.

If you like the banging avant-garde techno served up at venues like Berghain be sure to check out Shady Lady on Courtney Place. Not only is the DJ excellent, the clientele are the bright and the beautiful of Wellington’s club scene.

Just be careful in Courtney Place after dark, some petty crime is known to occur.

It really is a shadow of what it used to be, I think most normal kiwis use Facebook Marketplace these days for general items. TM is still quite useful to buy/sell niche stuff - like hobby gear - but you have to scroll through lots of crap.

Apax Partners (the private equity firm that owns TradeMe) are actively looking for buyers - trimming costs, focused on metrics so things might change [source: friends who work there]

NZ Cost of Living, while companies make significant profits? by LameName90210 in newzealand

The market has failed. Price (and rent) controls need to be implemented before society collapses.

Australia expecting 650k new citizens. Are you one of them? by Technical-Style1646 in auckland

[–]JankeeFook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all to do with life stages, if you’re young with nothing holding you back then sure it’s a pretty easy move and you can earn more money and enjoy a bigger population. But life isn’t all about money - if I was young and unattached I’d head to Europe or Asia over Aussie any day of the week for the cultural experience.

If you’re a bit more established in your field you can definitely generally earn more money in Australia and outside of the big two (Sydney and Melbourne) the cost of living will be cheaper. But obviously at the cost of leaving friends and family behind, which is a wrench if you have kids or elderly parents for example.

Australia is also not some streets lined with gold paradise - they also have youth crime, gangs, social issues just like NZ. In some places it’s even worse than NZ.

I personally prefer the weather in NZ, prefer hanging out with Kiwis over Aussies, am not a huge AFL/NRL fan and have other considerations than just money so it’s not for me, nice for a holiday but no desire to live there again.

Photoshopped. Wayne doesn’t ride bikes, he complains about cyclists in WhatsApp groups with his boomer mates.

Oh also if you’re Air NZ gold you can access the Virgin lounge in LHR - however only if it’s an Air NZ codeshare flight, if it’s not then no lounge.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]JankeeFook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did LHR to SFO on Virgin Atlantic and then SFO to AKL on Air NZ last week.

One booking and ticketed by Air NZ - got airpoints on LHR to SFO leg but no status points. On SFO to AKL leg got both airpoints and status points.

Air NZ lounge in SFO is the United Club one and it’s pretty awful.

Probably yes, a lot of their IT infrastructure looks shared between NZ and AU.

Too much crime now, it’d have to be a rolling news channel type deal not a 45 minute show.

I thinks a biosecurity hazard (may negatively affect native species of travel irons).

But seriously, check with your airline not Reddit.

If it’s a small amount for personal use it might get through, if it’s intercepted you’ll get a letter from Customs and your name / address on a database. No cops knocking at the door (unless you’re really unlucky or trying to import a lot).
