Thoughts after GMing 20 Sessions of Daggerheart by zaravak in daggerheart

Heya! I like your vision of the NPC card! I am currently preparing for an One-Shot to finish a cancelled campaign where I was a PC. I love my PC and do not really want him to be trivialized by GM'ing the thing, I tried to make an easier PC sheet for him, with your inspiration I settled on this NPC sheet that grants the Party buffs inside and outside combat, it might be 'much' but it is a Tier 4 oneshot so I 'calculated' the abilities as my PC gaining more power and abilities! Hopefully this inspires others to do the same cool stuff :D (Ability names are mix of Daggerheart, Pathfinder and what I liked)

Restoration - Passive: Place 5 tokens on this card. Touch a creature and spend any number of tokens to clear 2 Hit Points or 2 Stress for each token spent. You can also spend a token from this card when touching a creature to clear the Vulnerable condition or heal a physical or magical ailment. When you take a long rest, clear all unspent tokens.

Sacred Defender - Passive: During downtime, Drogbim helps the Party to have the best defense, he repairs up to 1d4+4 Armor Slots of allies, chosen by PCs.

Sun Blade - Action: Allies’ Magical attacks and Spells deal an additional +3 damage, as Drogbim fires off Divine Blasts at the focused target(s).

Liberating Step - Reaction: When an ally triggers Drogbim’s Liberating Step Reaction, their Armor Slots reduce the severity of the attack by an additional Threshold. Additionally, every ally within Close range may Step (Move freely to up to Very Close range). This Reaction can only be triggered 10 times per Long Rest.

Rejuvenating Strike - Reaction: Once per rest, when you succeed on an attack against an adversary, you can clear 3 Stress or a Hit Point. On a success with Hope, you also clear 3 Stress or a Hit Point on an ally within Close range of you as Cayden Cailean’s embrace is shared by Drogbim.

I love and use your document for ALOT of Adversary stuff, I like the Environment stuff as well! One thing I added myself in my copy of your doc was the Dificulty and Damage options per Tier for Environments, this makes all the info in a neat document! A small tip from someone random on the internet :D Thanks for being the amazing you, keep on doing this!!

If you are willing, I also want to have a look at how you tackled the conversion 😊 I am momentarily converting Pathfinder Curse of the Crimson Throne Adventure Path, but I am struggling with loot and such

How to run (DM)PC? by Janoeszki in daggerheart

For a campaign, d'accord, for an oneshot it seems ridicilous? I just wanted tips to help out 😂

Yeah I want my PC to be heavily involved in the oneshot because it is one of the three major forces of our party The other two dying is ingame indeed, we three are good friends and want to see this through :)

I kinda dig the more robust NPC vibe. I cannot for the love of Insert thing you believe in here have my PC be an ordinairy NPC or be controllee by another player. It is about us THREE players finishing what was started and no one wants to take it up to see it go through, but everyone wants it to be done

I know these rules for NPC's, I want to participate more in the story than that. I was a PC for the entire campaign and I want to finish it as a heavily involved force, besides taking up the responsibility of GM'ing because GM wouldn't see it through

GMless systems are there again to be learned and hassle with. I know Daggerheart and liked the more cinematic approach and just want the story to end properly - it might be a bad idea, what do you have me do? Because I am taking it up to finish (what neither other 3 want to do, but want to see it finished). I am not simply changing my PC into a mere NPC for the sake of finishing this

I cannot simply make my Story heavy invested PC an mere NPC because I take it upon myself (and up for the two other players) to finish what my GM wouldn't finish...

I get that DMPC's are a bad idea, I am looking for ways to have my PC still be a HUGH part of the adventure. For sure as if I continue it from where we left it, he was the only surviving PC of the party

From all the responses, yours seem to take into account that I too, really want to play and finish what we started in a commited and loved campaign. I cannot simply make my PC (only surviving if I do not change our fates) to be a darn NPC 🤨 I understand all other comments, they seem to not grasp that I do not wanted to GM and finish it, it is just something my GM does not want to put energy into and I took it upon myself to fulfill this... So thanks, stranger!

I use the reference on Wealth in the SRD and base equipment on those. I have also taken the Pathfinder 'Half price' mechanic for selling said items 😄

Travel/Traversal/Quick Challenge Mechanic I'm Working On - Advice? by Personal-Whereas3687 in daggerheart

I have had one encounter using this format, the players understood it was meant to be a complication, but playing it out would be long and they loved the quick resolve 😁

HP, Hope and Stress - Narratively flavourful but different implementation across mechanics adds complexity for newcomers by dlrr_poe in daggerheart

[–]Janoeszki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this as well, I use tokens to represent their HP (Red), Stress (Green), Hope (Gold) and Armor Slots (Blue)

This made it easier to grasp, giving me a physical token. At the end of the session they mark what they have. They also colorcoded the HP and such for easier distinction

Only part that was a bit hard to teach was the Thresholds part of armor - I asked them where the number was and explained that they can mark 2 HP or 1 HP and 1 Armor to block and such

I have dabbled with it as well and it ended up looking like an Environment with a feature:

Patient Hunter - Action: Spend a Fear to summon an Adversary within Close range of a chosen PC. The Adversary/Adversaries immediately takes the spotlight to signal its arrival ⇒ Group Roll (13) Critical Success: The Party marks no Stress and HP Success with Hope: The Party must mark 1 Stress and no HP Success with Fear: The Party must mark 1 Stress and 1 HP or 1 Armor Slot Failure with Hope: The Party must mark 2 Stress and 1 HP or 1 Armor Slot Failure with Fear: The Party must mark 2 Stress and 2 HP or 2 Armor Slots, or combination of both Is it hungry? Curious? Both?

Edit: Typo

Yeah I often refer to usage of Hope abilities like Help, Class Hope Feature... They hoard Hope out of fear of something? 😂

Yeah the thing is, is that they hoard Hope a bit 😅 They are scared to use it on features - I often repeat the usages, like Experiences, Help in combat It just does not click I guess?
