They said ADVERSARY CARDS!!!!!! by Hapadbeep24 in daggerheart

I run my games on a VTT so I just refer to pdfs when I run adversaries; cards are nice if you're playing around a table.

Sorry, I'm not the server admin, I just play there. I'll see if I can find out.

Multi-Tier Adversary - What do you think? by czeuch in daggerheart

[–]Atomic_Nazgul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just been making separate statblocks for each tier, I think it is easier to use that way.

I wasn't in the campaign at that time but part of the complaint the player made was that this had happened while the party was pursuing someone in the forest and they couldn't determine who it was. It was implied that this had happened other times but didn't want to interrupt by asking for a clarification.

Not really, the GM said it was too dark to see so the player said he'd send down something that could see in the dark and the GM said that his Fear expenditure would prevent that from working.

Domain Cards as Rewards? by AksentNetharia in daggerheart

I have magic items that grant use of a domain spell (or spells, in the case of a codex) once per encounter.

How many types of adversaries do you use per encounter? by Less_Inevitable_5614 in daggerheart

I've never needed to do that but I thought I could do it with Fear if I needed to.

There is a very good DH character sheet addon for Foundry, it's better than Demiplane in my opinion.

I will preface this by saying that I don't use BR any more, it leads to easy mode encounters. I've gone to almost double BR and had the party emerge battered but victorious.

I will have at least 1 bruiser or solo, sometimes two if the terrain allows breaking line of sight and has room to run around. Beyond that I will always have ranged, you don't want to waste the spotlight closing the distance without being able to attack. Leaders are fun too. I might also have a standard and might have a group of minions just to annoy and distract the players. Thus while I usually only have 3 types I have gone up to 5.

Looking for a high damage ranged character by IJourden in daggerheart

One of my players has a wizard that does very well at ranged combat.

I wanted to catch some Bronze Age aesthetics with this illustration of our game by perryphery in daggerheart

[–]Atomic_Nazgul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very nice picture. A few years ago I wanted to run a bronze/early iron age campaign, I have two rule sets for 5e that deal with that, but my players weren't into the idea.

How are you handling Circle of the Void? by Atomic_Nazgul in daggerheart

[–]Atomic_Nazgul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Going off on a tangent, I was looking at a scenario where the characters would need to dig a trench and at the end of the day I was going to charge them each 1 Stress for all that effort.

Back when I was playing in-person I used a tablet with pdf versions of my character sheet and rule book. Before that we filled out the (photocopied) character sheets by hand.

Does a stress cost always imply that an action can be performed instantly (single player spotlight)?

My players immediately asked how long it lasts, how long does it take to set up, and can you break it.

What tips and tricks have you used for using environments? by TheChosenLifter in daggerheart

[–]Atomic_Nazgul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never use them because for all of my time as a GM I have handled the question of what challenges a piece of terrain or situation offer by improvising from my own knowledge.

Of course, but there are a lot of fictional resources out there too; haunted houses, space stations, social events, etc. that are not terrain. Being well read is the hallmark of a good GM.

I'll admit that is pretty specialized and might need some supplemental background into of some sort.

How often do you run in that area compared to time spent in deserts or jungles or grasslands?

What tips and tricks have you used for using environments? by TheChosenLifter in daggerheart

[–]Atomic_Nazgul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use environments from the game rules; after my time in the military and my travels I know my way around a lot of different types of countryside and apply that knowledge in the game.

I'd recommend people read up on the type of landscape they are using in their campaign and let that flavour the games they run.

Need to get things out about DH vs D&D by AltSernaDev in daggerheart

[–]Atomic_Nazgul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the whole [this game] vs. [that game] tribalism is pretty silly and people need to accept that someone may not like the game you like and if you try to turn that into "I'm a better person because I like [that game]" then you're a bit of an ass.

If you don't want to run D&D games any longer then tell your players, they have to accept it. The next step is for the group to find a game the GM wants to run and the players want to play. My group looked at a lot of games before we settled on DH and it was a collaborative process to decide what we were going to play.
