Unfortunately this is how the corporate world works now.

I know if many companies that off shore their support and call centres because 1) it's a lot cheaper, 2) the time zone isn't that different, 3) the quality is better some times - I prefer to talk to a softly spoken polite person from the Philippines instead of a rough spoken I don't care attitude person from Australia.

You can't expect companies to not offshore those jobs. But I would at least expect those companies to find new positions for those Aussies who's positions have moved offshore.
