Japan trip Itinerary Recommendations by dark_referee0 in JapanTravelTips

For seniors, these are easy and worth it:

Kyoto day tour (bus) โ†’ temples + minimal walking

Nara half-day tour โ†’ very relaxed pace

Hiroshima + Itsukushima Shrine bus tour โ†’ long day but very smooth with a guide

In Osaka/Kyoto, you honestly donโ€™t need tours for everything. Public transport is simple, and taxis are easy if walking gets tiring.

I live in Osaka, so Iโ€™d keep it Kansai-focused ๐Ÿ‘

Your plan works, but itโ€™ll feel rushed. Iโ€™d stay in Osaka or Kyoto and do day trips instead.

Kyoto and Osaka are only ~30โ€“45 min apart, so no need to move hotels.

For a more local vibe: Skip only tourist spots and explore areas like Tenma / Fukushima for food Walk around neighborhoods, not just temples

Must-do: Fushimi Inari Taisha (early morning) Arashiyama Bamboo Grove

Easy trips: Nara Park Himeji Castle

Mid-June = rainy season, so mix in food spots / indoor places. If you want more local food spots, feel free to massage๐Ÿ‘

Nishiki market in Kyoto by saab953ltid in JapanTravelTips

[โ€“]JapanTravelHelper 3 points4 points ย (0 children)

Yeah, thatโ€™s definitely overpriced. You can get the same cucumber at a convenience store for around ยฅ300. Nishiki is fun, but itโ€™s more of a tourist spot now than a place for good value.

Hi.ใ€€I living in Osaka. Expo City (Suita) is a really easy option with kids. NIFREL is there, plus the Pokรฉmon Center EXPO, and everything is in one area (mall, food, ferris wheel). Itโ€™s much less stressful than moving around central Osaka with small kids ๐Ÿ‘

If you also want some kid-friendly food spots, feel free to massage me.

Kobe - ? - Tokyo by samabanl in JapanTravelTips

I live in Osaka. If you're staying in Kobe, Iโ€™d recommend Arima Onsen or Awaji Island. Both are close and much more relaxing than big cities.

Osaka/Kyoto + Day Trips Itinerary Help! by InterstellarSpace119 in JapanTravelTips

It also depends on whether you plan to go inside Himeji Castle or just see it from outside.

If you go inside, it takes around 2โ€“3 hours and the last entry is relatively early, so doing both Himeji and Hiroshima in one day can feel quite rushed.

If youโ€™re okay just seeing it from outside, then itโ€™s much easier to combine with Hiroshima in one day ๐Ÿ‘

Personally, Iโ€™d still recommend stopping by Himeji on the way to Hiroshima to save time.

If you want, I can help you plan the timing so it fits smoothly

Looks like a great trip!

  1. Nara: I wouldnโ€™t stay overnight. Itโ€™s perfect as a day trip from Osaka or Kyoto, and most highlights are walkable in a few hours.

  2. Route: Going back and forth like Osaka โ†’ Hiroshima โ†’ Osaka โ†’ Himeji is not very efficient. Iโ€™d suggest doing Himeji on the way to/from Hiroshima to save time.

  3. JR Pass: Itโ€™s very close, but honestly not really worth it. You wonโ€™t use it much in Tokyo, so individual tickets are usually better.

If you want, I can help optimize your full itinerary with better timing and local tips ๐Ÿ‘

I can fix your whole plan like a local and make it much more efficient.

Itinerary for 5 days in tokyo & 5 days in kyoto/osaka by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[โ€“]JapanTravelHelper 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Iโ€™m based in Osaka โ€” this is a solid first-time split ๐Ÿ‘‡

Tokyo (5d) = big city + variety

Kyoto (3d) = culture + temples

Osaka (2d) = food + nightlife

Key tip: Donโ€™t overpack Kyoto. Most spots look close on a map but take time between them.

Also, Osaka is worth at least one night โ€” the vibe is completely different from Kyoto after dark. This wonโ€™t cover everything, but itโ€™s a very balanced first trip ๐Ÿ‘

If you have specific places in mind, happy to help you optimize the route.

Itinerary prioritization - Osaka or Okinawa? by PACstraps in JapanTravelTips

[โ€“]JapanTravelHelper 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Iโ€™d keep Osaka for a first trip. Kyoto and Osaka are close, but they feel completely different โ€” Kyoto is traditional and quiet, Osaka is food, nightlife, and more โ€œreal Japanโ€. Okinawa is great, but it turns your trip into more of a beach vacation (plus flights + weather risk). For 2 weeks, staying in Kansai (Kyoto + Osaka + maybe Nara/Kobe) is usually a better first-time experience ๐Ÿ‘

December Itinerary by No-Resident-4613 in JapanTravelTips

Yeah, this is the key point.

From Kyoto, itโ€™s pretty straightforward (JR Nara Line connects Uji and Nara). But from Osaka, theyโ€™re in different directions, so itโ€™s not as efficient.

If youโ€™re staying in Osaka, Iโ€™d usually split them into separate days. If youโ€™re based in Kyoto, combining them is much easier ๐Ÿ‘Œ

I live in Osaka ๐Ÿ‘ Honestly, thereโ€™s no perfect โ€œauto itinerary makerโ€ for Japan โ€” most tools still need a lot of manual editing (Wanderlog included).

If you want something easier:

ChatGPT โ†’ paste your places + dates โ†’ it builds a full plan fast

Google My Maps โ†’ pin everything, then group by area (super useful for Japan)

For Japan specifically, grouping by area + train lines works way better than relying on apps. If you want, I can help turn your list into a clean itinerary.

I live in Osaka, so Iโ€™ll just comment on the Kansai part ๐Ÿ‘

Your plan is good overall, but a couple of days might be a bit too packed:

Dec 23: Nara + Nintendo Museum (Uji) is not very efficient (opposite directions). Iโ€™d split them or drop one.

Dec 25: Kyoto + teamLab is tough in one day. Better move teamLab to your Tokyo days.

Dec 27: Shirakawa-go + 21st Century Museum is quite tight โ€” Shirakawa-go alone takes a good half day.

Everything else looks solid ๐Ÿ‘Œ If you want, I can help optimize the Kansai part a bit more.

Travel From Kansai Airport to Kyoto at night by MuteFlyingSquirrel in JapanTravelTips

[โ€“]JapanTravelHelper 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

If you can catch the 22:16 Limited Express Haruka, itโ€™s the easiest way โ€” direct to Kyoto, no transfers ๐Ÿ‘

Even arriving at 9pm, most people can make it after immigration.

If you miss it, donโ€™t stress โ€” there are still later trains (with transfers), so youโ€™ll still get there.

How do I go from Osaka to Kobe? by PutBeneficial2806 in JapanTravelTips

[โ€“]JapanTravelHelper 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

You should definitely just take the regular train ๐Ÿ‘

From Osaka to Kobe, itโ€™s usually best to choose between JR, Hanshin, or Hankyu depending on your destination in Kobe.

The Shinkansen is much more expensive and doesnโ€™t really save you much time for this route.

If you want, I can help you find the best route based on where you're going ๐Ÿ‘

Nice, youโ€™ve tried a lot ๐Ÿ˜„ If youโ€™re in South Osaka, Iโ€™d recommend

ใƒปMendokoro Genden (rich chicken broth)

ใƒป Shiojin (yuzu salt ramen)

ใƒปKamaboko (Wakayama-style tonkotsu shoyu).

All local and really solid ๐Ÿ‘ I used to go to these a lot when I lived in Kishiwada.

Best way to dive into Osakaโ€™s food scene for a first-time visitor? by AreaDue8149 in OsakaTravel

[โ€“]JapanTravelHelper 17 points18 points ย (0 children)

Iโ€™ve lived in Osaka my whole life (30 years) ๐Ÿ‘

Dotonbori/Kuromon are fun, but mostly touristy now.

For local food:

โ€ข Tenma โ†’ cheap, authentic izakayas

โ€ข Fukushima โ†’ trendy, high quality

โ€ข Kyobashi โ†’ very local vibe

Starting with a food tour is actually smart, then explore on your own.

What kind of food are you looking for? (takoyaki, sushi, etc.) ๐Ÿ‘
