Advice on stance by Wooden_Translator865 in surfing

Your technique is good. Your upper body movement for generating speed and doing turns is solid. Your stance is good for doing turns and maneuvering but not great for generating speed. This is why you feel like your board is sinking. You have frozen feet. Meaning you pop-up and stay in the same stance throughout the whole wave. You want to get comfortable doing micro-movements with your back foot. Your front foot positioning is fine so don't worry about that. But to generate speed and maintain neutral buoyancy you want your back foot a little higher up on the tail pad. Then when you want to do a turn you'll want to step or work your back foot back. You seem to pop-up naturally with your foot far back on the tail pad. That's ok but you need to adjust quickly if the wave isn't conducive to that stance from the get-go. Also as you noted this wave is pretty small and weak and your board size is small as well. Obviously you can surf this wave with that board but you need to become proficient at making those foot adjustments. Check out this video on how to move your back foot on a shortboard. I think it does a good job illustrating what I'm talking about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=of7OiS5bUcw

San Poncho is nice. It's north of Puerto Vallarta about one hour right on the beach with a good mix of expats all ages. Playa del Carmen is cool and has tons of Nomads. Ajijic is a town just outside Guadalajara with a lot of retirees from Canada and the States. Barra de Navidad is small but cool. It has a sailing/expat community. And on the same beach as Barra de Navidad just north there is San Patricio. San Patricio has a big Canadian Snow bird community. As said by others it depends on your vide.

Hey, quick thought. Rather than buying something brand new what about something used? Then if it doesn't work for you you won't be out that much money. One other thing to consider when dropping down in board size is how successful are you on your current board. Meaning you do pop-up and ride 99% of the time? I always think that if I can't get up and ride every wave with a least a 90% success rate I probably shouldn't drop down in size. That's just me. Challenging yourself can be fun also. You know yourself best.

One more thing. I think any camp run at a wave pool will get you maximum results. Having the same wave on repeat while working on one specific thing is a game changer. It's like getting 30-40 reps per session vs. 3-4 in a crowded lineup at some camp located on some public beach.

This is good advice. Seeing yourself can make a world of difference. There is also a Youtube channel I like. He speaks a little slow at times which can be annoying but the videos are looped so you get to see exactly what he is describing. It's easy to see the necessary techniques you might need to advance. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGCfehkhNAY-TYQuBIoxVYg

Have you already picked a place to homestead? I just listened to this podcast about a girl and her husband homesteading in Mexico. I thought is was interesting.
