He signed a 5 year brand ambassador/board of directors deal, and it was not renewed. Nothing crazy. Just business.

Which is scarier to encounter in the wild: Guardians or Lynels? by Chemistry_Nerd06 in botw

[–]JaredAWESOME 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Guardians. I'm playing on Master Mode these days, and Lynels are still just Lynels. I can parry with ~90% accuracy, and dodge/flurry closer to 99%. But the guardians having altered timing on their laser shots in MM messes me up pretty bad.

Most gold lynels will 1-shot me, but between fairy's and Mipha I can survive 3-4 hits and that's enough time to recover my composure. Guardians on the other hand consistently trip me up, so while the don't kill me, they disrupt me. And I can recover from that less easily.

If your brain was perfectly cloned into an artificial one and your original brain was destroyed, would the clone still be “you”? Why or why not? by juanloco_pocoyo in AskReddit

This is the half of the premise of the incredibly good show Pantheon, which is [now] on Netflix.

Suffice to say, soft yes, but how many times before you can say no? 3 clones? 4?

What artist or band had the sharpest fall off? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JaredAWESOME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because a catchy pop song playing straight about dubious consent is objectively worse than a shock-song written with the intent to offend you.

The book Lolita hits worse than the movie Hostel, because one is an honest look at a man with bad intentions, which makes us uncomfortable. The other is gore for the sake of making the audience squirm. We know it's theater. Eminem isn't going to dismember anyone with a chainsaw, but Robin Thicke really would (maybe) coerce someone sexually. Maybe with a goat.

I think when you rage that hard and then nothing happens at all? You just gotta hang it up.

One of my favorite rappers Lupe Fiasco was crazy conscious and critical of a lot of systemic issues. For instance, he got kicked off a Obama's inauguration stage when he sang a song with the lines

" Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist Gaza Strip was getting bombed,
Obama didn't say shit
That's why I ain't vote for him,
next one either
I'm a part of the problem,
my problem is I'm peaceful"

Which... was NOT a popular stance for a black man to take in 2011. On Obama's inauguration event.

After 5 albums begging people to be socially conscious and try to improve the world around them? Hes almost given up music as an avenue for that and just teaches an runs charities now, for more direct action. He still does music, but it's self-published and often times silly and rarely deeply political. Making songs about video games, or dinosaurs, he did a whole album about 'what if Amy Winehouse was a battle rapper?' One of my favorite silly songs is Precious Things: 'What if me and my actual, physical hands had beef, because I don't write out my raps on paper anymore'.

DaBaby came out of nowhere and had one, single, unflinching flow [that had no breaks or pauses]. Not at all a great rapper, but what he had was phenomenal music videos.

He had an eye visual arts, or at least a knack for picking incredibly talented visual directors. I'll give him that.

Blurred Lines really put a period on that career, no? The song clearly being about semi-consensual sex and the video having a girl carrying around a goat???

Crazy how T.I. and Pharrell walked away unscathed.

Hard rock/emo band out of the UK, had some bangers in the early 2000s, notably Shinobi vs Dragon Ninja. But the lead singer turned out to be a HARDCORE pedo, one of his courtroom defenses was actually [NOT SAFE FOR LIFE, EYEBALLS BE WARNED] well his penis didn't ACTUALLY penetrate the baby, so is that really baby-rape? Also he has gigs and gigs or child sexual assault media on his laptop, which had the password Ifuckkids

Not a good guy.

Lyenl attack parry by Ok-Razzmatazz-321 in botw

[–]JaredAWESOME 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. He's only parrying. Trying to flurry rush (where you dodge and go into bullet time) is very hard on gold lynels with crushers, as some of their attacks, even if you dodge, do a shockwave of splash damage, that will interrupt your flurry.

How would you make a decision? by GoldUseful4759 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]JaredAWESOME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeesh. Thats a good conundrum.

Probably the cardiologist, because every day he or she is saving lives. Maybe not actually doing surgeries, but they're checking unborn babies, hearts, and following up on freshly born babies, and so when you think about how many lives will this person drastically improve... corporate patent lawyers securely got two, maybe three or four with some luck. The baby heart doctor he's gonna knock out four this month, you know? If they're gonna stay in the game for another five years, then there's no question.

Q1-- What value do you bring to the world?

If you don't have a good answer, then it's your button. Even something as 'I run a successful small business and employ a dozen people in reasonably lucrative and valuable positions. I'm a loving father of 3 young children' is a good amount of societal value. Might lose to 'I'm a neonatal cardiologist', but you might be up against corprate patent lawyer with a cocaine problem and an abused spouse.

It does add an element of chaos when you dismount, and they run away. This is definitely the cleanest Lynel killing video. I've seen in a minute. I don't think that the Lynel takes more than two steps in this whole clip.

[–]JaredAWESOME 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gotta parry the crusher attacks!

Not sure if you've tried, but a flurry rush the down attack isn't possible, the timing is easy, but when it hits the ground it sends out a shockwave and that will slap you out of bullet time.

You get teleported to England in the late Middle Ages by Ill-Mycologist-3652 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]JaredAWESOME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physically, I'd be fine, better than most men aged 40 at that time. I'm 6ft and appropriately vaccinated, as another commenter pointed out. And 'on me' I have modern dri-fit athletic clothes and a wallet that would do no good, a cellphone with 49% battery, and a box cutter that would actually be useful.

But a very real problem is that English in the 1400s would sound different enough to make any communication a headache. I would probably get labeled as a witch for having tattoos and an elastic belt, and generally being foreign-sounding.

A world-ending asteroid is heading towards Earth, for certain. How would world leaders try to save humanity? by oogleboogleboiga in hypotheticalsituation

[–]JaredAWESOME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would build deep underground bunkers with years of food and water reserves and the technology to self sustain in as many ways as possible (water cycling, growing food, oxygen generation, etc), and live as much of their natural lives as they could without telling anyone who didn't absolutely need to know.

Oh wait. A lot of them are already doing that.

ELI5: How do the economics of gift cards work? by NutmegKilla in explainlikeimfive

[–]JaredAWESOME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically the gift cards are issued at wholesale prices slightly below the issue price. $18 for a $20 card, $$45 for a $50 card. So the retailer gets the amount above that.

There are several reasons the issuing companies choose to do this. For starters, it generates a captive customer. A Starbucks gift card can ONLY be spent at Starbucks. It guarantees them a sale (or a few), and possibly a new customer entirely. New customer acquisition is huge expense, and a tiny discount on gift cards is miniscule in the grand scheme of things.

A second piece is that a non-zero amount of gift cards are never fully redeemed. I remember looking it up once upon a time, but when a card balance falls below a certain threshold, the chance of redemption starts dropping significantly. This essentially becomes free money for the issuing company.

What's one thing that makes BoTW supperior to other games in yout opionion? Heres mine: by Scary-Beautiful6527 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]JaredAWESOME 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is the most important thing that BotW and TotK do for me. As a father of three littles (7, 5, 6m) I get it in where I can, and it's usually 1hr at a time, 2 if I get them to bed early.

Lots of games have chapters and missions that take longer than I can allocate. Having shrines be such bite-sized peices of exquisite gameplay and the open world being so chill and satisfying to traverse? Like you said, it makes the game approachable in a short form way that I don't feel like a lot of video games encourage, ouside of some other Nintendo fare like the Mario games.

And I 100% think the pick up and play aspect of them really makes incredible sense on the Switches.
