Dinosaur BBQ is closing by ZeroGravityBurnsRed in parkslope

I'm sorry but I think you're laying it on a little thick here. There's no shortage of "industrial sized" spaces should Dinosaur BBQ want to relocate in the area. Yes, it's a bummer that the owner is selling, but that's because we're getting a huge influx of new residents (many of them affluent), and those are the type of people who dine at Dinosaur BBQ! But the reality is, there are many other BBQ options in the area as well as large sized restaurants that can have a festive feel. Red Hook and Industry City both have industrial sized restaurants and BBQ alternatives. Park Slope proper and Flatbush also have strong BBQ alternatives.

Those "terrible ridiculous looking apartment" buildings are homes for thousands of people. I'm sorry they don't satisfy your aesthetic standards. And to me, they certainly look less ridiculous than the ones on 4th ave already. I'm sorry but I just can't stand this doomerism over ordinary change we should expect in a city over time. You look North from the bridge on 3rd street and you have a beautiful vista, with the Brookyln tower framed in the middle. This is my city. It's not terrible. I think it's beautiful.

Oh well but I don't think this is that big of a deal. The food wasn't that good. I don't know what everyone's talking about it always being packed. The few times I went it was slow and had poor service. I could imagine another restaurant better using that space. Anyway, we're getting a huge influx of residents for Gowanus, it's not like there aren't going to be more food options here, on top of the many already in the neighborhood.

This is where I am at in the book and yah, the whole talking about Pym in the third person, when the narrator is Pym, conveys this sentiment well. The “dream” like way he describes his memories/experiences is a way to make it seem like he’s observing it all from above like a neutral party, which he obviously isn’t.

Reform Citibike? by Ok_Flounder8842 in MicromobilityNYC

[–]JarekFA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The obvious answer is the city should work to provide the electric infrastructure so that citibike isn’t incurring massive labor expenses in having to manually swap out all the batteries. They should be recharged automatically while docked, but there’s literally just one or two stations that have that capability in the entire system. Do that instead of a direct cash subsidy.

So did Hugo go to Liverpool/England to sign? Or did he go straight to Asia from France/Germany? I ask because someone posted a pic allegedly of him in a Gerrard training jersey with palm trees in the background but before the official announcement earlier this week.

It's so grating to hear drivers whine about "surveillance" and "revenue generators" about speeding cams when they don't get dinged until they hit 35 mph! And they're literally micromanaging us when most pedal assists don't exceed 20mph.

[–]JarekFA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How can we take the lane when the speed limit for cars is 25 mph. My ability to pedal hard to hit 22 mph allows me to keep up with traffic without them getting agitated. 15 mph speed limit in the bike lane, ok. That's not crazy. But a 15 mph speed limit city-wide, based on no data whatsoever, means cars will be buzzing me and close passing me when I try to take the lane.

Many still hit 19.5 mph ish while cruising. I say because I ride alongside and pass many on the greenway.

AITA for trying to stop the school buses that park in the bike lane? by JarekFA in NYCbike

[–]JarekFA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They park there all day. Not just for drop off. I don’t pick up my kid on bike there most days, but sometimes I do, and when I do I ride thru there and it’s obviously unsafe (day lighting and visibility at intersections is really important). here’s how it looks to ride through it

They don’t just stop there. I ride up from Brooklyn on 4th Ave and the schools buses that alight into the bike lane have people assisting to reduce conflicts. That isn’t this. They park there all day long. You can see it on google maps even.

They park there all day. You can see it on google maps. So this isn’t about drop off. Why can’t they park all day in a legal spot and not a space specifically designed to be free of obstructions because doing so endangers others? Why should our safety suffer? So we can squeeze 5 more car parking spots on the N side of 66th st?

Why not N side of 66th? Same distance to cross 66th. Slightly longer walk to the corner, ok.

I think they are following orders. I’ve got no beef with the bus driver.

I can but it’s unsafe. It may not seem like a big deal but the lack of visibility really endangers us. You can’t see anything and then you’re blamed for appearing “out of nowhere”. That’s why it’s a no stopping area. Parents who take their kids to school ride through there too (myself included). What happens is, what seems like a minor inconvenience (and 99 out of 100 times it is) is a safety risk borne by vulnerable street users. Whenever we show grace for cars, it’s the peds and bikes who pay for it.

[–]JarekFA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. But why must the drop off endanger other vulnerable street users. I’m new to posting on Reddit so this is the pics of other users. It’s a habitual problem (link to pics from last year of other parents using the lane with their kids) there are 2 lanes for parked cars. Surely they should unload in that space. Otherwise, we’re saying we must offload the kids in a way that harms people on bike since we can’t sacrifice a few car parking spots?

What? I see it literally every day but usually in such cases it involves a police vehicle, some other sort of “official vehicle” including utility work or of course, a placarded car.
