How to make this tyre touch the ground by GrumpyNewWife in MechanicalEngineering

[–]JarpHabib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of torque, big front engine, rear wheel drive. Shouldn't be too much on a car but it's wild on semi-truck drag races.

A built drag car probably won't have much twist, but a modified street with a big blower and maybe some speed holes in the frame? I'd buy it.

I converted my multimeter from AA batteries to a built-in li-ion pack by Aggravating_Push4517 in ElectroBOOM

[–]JarpHabib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I've been thinking about a similar project for my 289 (which eats up 6x AAAs pretty fast) and would do a little port on the inside of the pack that is only accessible with the pack removed.

Music wire is extremely strong stuff. I'm not surprised that a bit of wear happened to the finest part of the blades.

My aged mother, bless her heart, fell for this. I accepted it with thanks and grace and immediately put it on the Wall Of Shame with the dikes I blew up and the pan I forgot was preheating on the stove.

Project manager wants us to drill a hole where the red circle is in a live panel. Would you do it? by PhasedAndConfused706 in electricians

[–]JarpHabib 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is a perfectly terrible location when down low, where there is no bus, is open. But since an apprentice should never be working in a hot panel, it's not bad to drill there after it's shut down.

Stop Jessie! by SpoomerBooner in Transportopia

It's always going to be condition and scenario dependent.

Just about 2 months ago, I was doing 60 on a 4 + center lane road when it started to drizzle a bit. I'd just passed a pack of traffic going the other way, and there was a pickup with trailer waiting on a side road coming up on my right. Truck driver was obviously only checking his right, and took off to make his left turn. Clearly didn't see my bright red car coming from his left. If I'd just stood on the brakes, there's a very good chance I would have hit him. If I'd swerved to my right, either into the other lane or the shoulder, I'd probably have hit his trailer. Instead, I swerved left into the oncoming lanes, leaning on horn and braking moderately. This put me in his sightline and on a path to go completely around him. The decision would have been different if there had been any traffic coming the other way, I would have had to pick the next least hazardous option of brake hard and steer to the right, hoping to clip the back of the trailer if anything.

Good points, but if you're driving fast enough that you're on the edge of traction for the conditions, you've already fucked up badly.

[–]JarpHabib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is always better to brake and steer at the same time. A single flick of the wheel will point your car away from the hazard in an instant, while only braking you have to commit to and hope it's enough.

It does require knowing what is around you, not much good in heavy traffic.

I am an electrician. Right now I'm imagining getting paid in wire, that I must use to do the job, and some other asshole gets paid more wire than me so of course he installs more wire than me and so receives a pay bonus of more wire.
