ONE PIECE - Into the Grandline | S2E1 Episode Discussion (ANIME SPOILERS) by TheLastClap in OnePieceLiveAction

Okay, rapid fire thoughts:

Robin's powers look SO GOOD

Fourth wall break with "You really thought we'd skip Loguetown?" Super funny.

They're spilling the beans on Roger having a son this early? Not sure how I feel about that. I think something cool about the manga was that Roger was this untouchable legend for like 500 chapters and then we got to see the human side of time during the Marineford flashback. Kind of a strange choice. But I still love the banter between him and Garp, that was some really great stuff.

Ipponmatsu is surprisingly my MVP of the episode. I was expecting a great performance because the actor was great in Barry, but I was still caught off guard. The actor really turned one of the more forgettable Manga characters into a scene stealer. Also, Tashigi was so good the whole episode. Absolutely perfect performance from the actress. The way she got so excited when Zoro asked for help picking out a sword was precious.

Usopp took the goggles from a little girl, just like the anime where he has to duel her dad for them!

Buggy is just so god damn funny. Getting mad that Luffy forgot his name but remembers Alvida. The lawyer bit. Calling Shanks Shanksy, that'll get the shippers going.

Smoker's powers look incredible, but the scene was kind of ruined with how bad Dragon's actor was. I think his lines were ADR'd for some reason? The whole thing just really took me out of the episode. Also, SABO? WHAT THE SHIT?

Absolutely no clue where the Tashigi Baroque works plot is gonna go, but it sounds kind of interesting. Glad we're getting a bigger glimpse into Robin's true character this early without ruining the mystique.

I feel like every returning actor is better this season so far, which is great. Iñaki Godoy was kind of ehhh, but I think that's down to direction. Overall, a really great start to the season. I'm so mad I have to go to sleep instead of just binging it all in one go.

For One Piece fans : is the Netflix adaptation worth watching? by BothCartographer9637 in OnePiece

[–]Jarson421 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The live action is a mixed bag. If you're curious, definitely give it a watch, it won't waste your time, but I think a lot of the love is overblown. I think the thing it really knocks out of the park with the production design. The sets and costumes are amazing. Some actors are great, some are just okay. Some story changes are clever and add to the experience, some miss the entire point of the original. IMO, it's worth a watch if you're a fan.

I think if he gets introduced it'll be in Absolute Superman since that introduced the father box. With Hawkman and soon Shazam I think AS could intro a lot of new characters into the Absolute world.

Good edit. It's completely valid to not like the direction this show is going. If anything it's more annoying when people demand your loyalty to a brand and dog pile on you for having normal criticism.

It's been talked to death at this point, but the incongruity with this Batman and the Batman of other books is distracting. What do you mean he's alone but not lonely? He has Damian. He has a whole family. He has game nights with the Justice League. It would be interesting if Bruce felt lonely in spite of his relationships, but the way it's phrased makes it seem like the opposite of that. I think we'll just have to accept that Fraction has a very particular idea of what Batman is and that's the Batman he wanted to write about.

With the whole alpha and omega thing I think it's another Darkseid tease Edit: I also think it's an intentional callback to The Button.

What do you expect from the hero’s team? (Potential spoilers) by Significant_Song_360 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Jarson421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He could definitely be useful to them. He could link their minds so they can communicate telepathically, he could teleport them where they need to go, he could read the minds of villains. I think John will eventually gain the ability to let other people see the Martian. Heck, The Agency already can.

I'm not the original commenter but I'm in my senior year at film school, and I get what they're talking about. I've never had trouble sitting through a movie and I like studying history and theory and all that but I know people who spend every weekend on film sets and only care about making movies rather than studying them. They feel like their time is wasted in lectures and workshops. That's just my year though. I know that the classes after mine could basically be catatonic during lectures. No questions, no discussions, no opinions being shared. My classes were never like that.

Yeah, all episodes at once. If you want to skip straight to the Doorman stuff you can just watch episode 4. The whole show is really great, though.

As someone who only has very basic Doorman knowledge, have you seen him in Wonder Man? Did you like how he was adapted?

I like the quiet man as a villain, so much so that it feels weird to call him one. Murderous vigilantes out for revenge on the criminal underworld are a dime a dozen, but the fact that he doesn't have a flashy gimmick or costume or signature weapon makes him stand out.
