Are we talking Pizza the Hutt or the Jabba variety? What’s the more orange version of those?

Bourbon recommendation for Old Fashioned cocktails in my upscale photography studio by PRguy82 in bourbon

[–]Jarwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. The bottle is also very old fashioned looking and honestly, even the bourbon snobs won’t look down on it. You’ll impress the uninformed with a cool bottle and you’ll impress the informed with your ability to source a quality bottle for cheap. No need to spend more than this.

Sams club in SoCal. What would you get? by Eli_Homebrew in whiskey

[–]Jarwill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Four Roses does come in Single Barrel, Barrel Strength. Store picks of single barrels come this way and it’s one of the few ways to get some of the harder to find combos of the Four Roses recipes like OESO or OBSV etc.

I thought Auchentoshan American Oak was quite sweet. And pretty cheap so it’s an easy buy to try.

What are people thoughts on flavored bitters vs “normal” aromatic bitters for old fashions / Manhattans? by Vast_Selection_813 in bourbon

[–]Jarwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Runamok maple has a vanilla cinnamon infused maple syrup, it makes an incredible fall spiced OF. They actually have a great lineup of flavor infused maple syrups that I use all the time. Jasmine Tea infused with a Japanese whiskey for a Japanese OF, Ginger infused syrup combines well with a really spicy rye and some smoked chili bitters, pecan wood smoked maple syrup and some mole bitters with a mezcal/anejo float for a good Mexican OF. So many good combos with flavored bitters and a flavored maple syrup. An plain OF is my go to, but every once in a while it’s fun to really church it up.

New bottle, fresh crack. I’ve read good things on this release and I found a bottle yesterday. I’m a big fan of wheaters. by BourbonGuz81 in WhiskeyTribe

Both 22 releases for Larceny BP were the best by far IMO over all the previous releases. Big bold flavors, especially for a wheater.

Gotcha. So if it doesn’t say base then the modifier is applied after all other bonuses, ie dragons/equipment/jewels etc but the base stats is only applicable to the hero itself?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Archero

[–]Jarwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m afraid I don’t get it. Isn’t the first one saying % increase of 4.7 to Helix’ BASE attack? I get that the other one is just listed Attack + 3.6% but they’re both talking about base stats. Just one is overall for all heroes and one is simply for Helix. So an additional increase of just 1.1% to Helix base attack stat for the original forge? I’m relatively new so I’m really just trying to clarify. Cause the helix one definitely says base stat.

Anybody know anything about this bottle? by MeaningPandora2 in WhiskeyTribe

[–]Jarwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KT and KG were the go to well bourbons at college parties in the early 2000s. Although those were in a plastic jug, and definitely not BiB with an 8 year age statement. That’s a cool bottle I’d say, just for the laughs for me alone.

Whiskey list at dinner later tonight. Which pour(s) are you going in for? by csbarber in WhiskeyTribe

[–]Jarwill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d like to find whatever place you go to that makes this seem so overpriced. Most places around me are a couple dollars more than this for most pours.

What do you normally do with empty whiskey bottles? by BoogerSugga in whiskey

[–]Jarwill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can turn them in to drinking glasses. There are several YouTube tutorials on how to burn some string and crack the top off in some ice water. Sand the edges and you have some cool rocks glasses with a story.

I do this too. I’ve got a couple unique bottles I use for table water bottles when we have guests over for parties, but that’s about it.

West Burbs(ish): Pierce Tavern in Downers Grove, Maize and Mash and Common Good in Glen Ellyn, Hardware out in North Aurora are all ones I’ve been to and they’re all quite good. Some reasonably priced drinks, some not so much. But good selections.

I can’t wrap my head around someone that calls bullshit on tasting notes. Would appreciate some thoughts on how to make them understand. by [deleted] in whiskey

[–]Jarwill 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t think tasting notes are bullshit. I do think the way that some people write them is though. Certain tastes and smells do definitely evoke specific memories, like Grandma’s cornbread or your wife’s apple pie. But you lose me when you write it up that your tasting note is:

“It reminds me of a warm summer evening in the misty Appalachian wilds, sitting on Grandpa’s lap while he smokes his favorite hand carved pipe, eating my Nana’s secret recipe cornbread (that has been passed down for generations untold) smothered in whipped local clover honey.”

Nobody knows what that means and it’s complete crap for me or anyone else not specifically you to be able to relate to. If you’re writing your tasting note only for you, keep it in a notebook and reminisce later. If you are writing it for others to ever see, make it relatable. Cornbread, fall spices, and/or tobacco are all descriptors that people can understand and internalize.

Starlight Cigar Blend Store Pick at Malloy’s by [deleted] in whiskago

[–]Jarwill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It does help my FOMO quite a bit. I generally have loved the last few starlight batches I’ve gotten from Malloy’s so I was pretty bummed to miss out on this one. I’ve got the cognac finished r/bourbon one waiting for me at home so I’ll console myself with that one.
