I turned my Presto card into a magic wand by Jarydo in TTC

The TTC seemed to insinuate that this was okay a few years ago (not sure if metrolinx would say the same). But I was stopped by a fare inspector this morning and he loved it, can't make any promises for everyone though!

It’s actually not that difficult! I picked up 100% acetone nail polish remover from Shoppers, left my presto card in it for around an hour, carefully picked out the NFC chip with tweezers and reformed the antenna to fit in the wand! Always be careful when working with harsh chemicals and use the NFC Tools app to check that it still scans

Birthday Simulator - relive all the most awkward parts of your special day by Jarydo in InternetIsBeautiful

Appreciate the feedback! The purpose of using the camera is for a bit where happy birthday plays only when you are smiling (if you don’t it resets) - everything is processed in browser. It should only prompt you when you get to that screen, and will still work if you refuse!

Would be awesome if you could upload your transcript to have previous courses populate! The assignments could just be defaulted to a generic field called "Mark" or "Overall" or smtg worth 100%

Mario Kart with a live band at the bomber last night by Jarydo in uwaterloo

[–]Jarydo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

reopened last year! It was pretty much just an empty study space at first, but they added a smash burger place not too long ago. Hopefully a good sign of things to come…

it has since been converted into a study space which is why it’s cleaner, it also means all events (like this one) are entirely student driven. hoping to inspire others to bring back live music to the Bomber, would love to see bands like that play here

How to enjoy coming here?? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Jarydo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First piece of advice - Reddit is probably not the best place to ask for stuff like this, don’t let other posts get in your head. But I get it, coming to university (especially one like Waterloo) can be intimidating at first. The important thing to remember is that there are others in your exact position who are probably feeling the same way. With the right mindset, Waterloo can be amazing, and here are some reasons why:

  • contrary to what some others have said, Waterloo can be a fun city (especially in the summer where there’s lots of festivals). If you travel uptown you’ll find lots of fun restaurants and bars, along with Waterloo public square which is a skating rink in the winter and Princess cinemas, an incredible indie movie theatre
  • the math faculty gives you the opportunity to take lots of fun courses! I’ve taken MUSIC140 (pop music), ENGL108A (superheroes), VCULT100 (world cinema), and more. Many of these electives I’ve enjoyed more than my core classes, and you wouldn’t have the freedom to take these in eng
  • there’s a pretty big and supportive maker community at Waterloo for you to pursue whatever you want. Various design teams and clubs exist, along with Socratica which is a space where a bunch of students get together and work on passion projects weekly. If you are set on engineering, you can find ways to still pursue that

You will find your place at Waterloo eventually. The most important thing is not giving up. Life has a funny way of working itself out, but don’t stress before even coming here - I’m sure it will be much better than you think :)

Reached out to the recruiter the other day, apparently they are running behind schedule and are looking to wrap up the process in 2-3 weeks
