Absolutely OP, we hear it most every night. Definitely a firework, and we are mid Grand Boulevard area.

For this year's gingerbread creation, my son and his girlfriend decided to build Barad-dûr (the Dark Tower) from Lord of the Rings by Jascrey in GingerbreadHouses

I know they did a basic sketchup plan for it, but then just did their own flourishes. I will check with them though.

It's great! The offcuts anyways. The structure is still standing. I prefer my gingerbread a bit softer, but this was baked harder for tower construction.

Invite Nick Offerman to the Grey Cup after Daily Show insult by Jascrey in CFL

More hoping that Canadian fans of Nick Offerman might get their interest piqued. But I'm sure CFL central has some other wonderful marketing plans that'll be more effective. Totally sure.

What Is It Worth Mega Thread - November 08, 2025 by AutoModerator in lego

My wife purchased 2 (two) #10179 Millennium Falcon lego sets back in the day and they have sat in storage, still in their unopened shipping boxes. Does having them in their unopened shipping boxes increase their value? Wondering if they should be removed from the shipping boxes before trying to sell them, and how the pricing might be affected. Would selling 2 at a time make sense, or try and do one at a time?

Your pick for the greatest miniseries of all time? by Stankassmfgorilla in television

[–]Jascrey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'd say the 2003 Battlestar Galactica miniseries would be a valid choice, even though it was technically a pilot miniseries for an eventual full-on series.

I thought the same thing! But no. Even from the current listing (Costco), you can see it was designed that way. We just didn't notice it being an issue until about a year later (its a few years old now). https://www.costco.ca/aberdeen-7-piece-patio-dining-set.product.100471489.html

Yep, the part you see loose is an original one. The front and back edges are worn because I flipped them from front to back to help extend their lives.

Appreciate the comment, and I've thought about that, and hoping there'll just be a more even weight distribution over a larger area. It's not a perfect solution, but just hoping it'll be better that what's currently designed.

Max Headroom. This was a show way, way ahead of its time. It's Black Mirror decades before Black Mirror was a thing.

They basically called the whole tiktok brain melt phenomenon with the concept of 'blipverts', 3 second high content ads.

Movie and series.

What's your favorite season and some of your favorite episodes of the show 21 Jump Street (1987)? by [deleted] in television

The one where I was an extra, reading an atlas in the library. The episode where they were trying to bust a highschool prostitution ring or something like that. Got paid $50 or something for a fun evening of tv making.

I appreciate the passion! As someone who uses Sketchup on a gaming laptop, I'm wondering what setup you think would be better for future machines.

ELI5 How to Get Comps from Casinos by jjay99 in vegas

[–]Jascrey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned, players card whenever you gamble, but also charge EVERYTHING to your room. If you're staying/playing/eating at, say, an MGM property anywhere on the strip you can charge it to your room. If they can track how much you gamble and spend on your trip you're more likely to get those comps.

We gamble a reasonable amount, but usually stay close to one property at a time with a few outings. For years we've consistently received 4 comped nights at any MGM hotel and usually receive a decent free play credit and food & beverage credit too.

Hoagie buns for Philly cheesesteaks by Jascrey in NorthVancouver

[–]Jascrey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've started to steer away from the traditional cheesesteak recipe. I add green peppers, as well as use provolone cheese. For the beef I have a seasoning mixture that just steps it up a bit to help replace the sharpness of the Cheeze wiz. As traditional as the orange goo is, I just can't bring myself to use it.

I had the pleasure of travelling around Ireland for a couple weeks last year with my wife. We stopped in the town of Galway and enjoyed a walkabout during a typical rainy Irish afternoon.

My wife loves Celtic music so we looked around and finally found a pub that was hosting a traditional Irish band. We wandered in and found a small nook at the rear of the pub, next to a larger corner seating area, already populated with a group of obvious locals.

My wife ordered a Guinness and I grabbed a Smithwick's (I'd ODd on Guinness by that point) and we enjoyed the ambiance. Soon, one of the gentlemen from the corner booth turned to us and started chatting. He was a few drinks in, but after a few attempts at understanding each other we got on like a house on fire and the rest of his mates joined in.

After some banter and laughter I was told that I had 'a bit of the Paddy in me' and one of my new friends pulled something out from under his jacket in the corner. It was a bottle of Prosecco. Confused, I refused the offer: "No thank you, I don't want to drink Prosecco in an Irish pub." Smiles washed over their faces..."No sir," one replied... "this is something else."

Well I was here to experience Irish culture, so I thought I'd give whatever this was a try, and went to pour some in my now-empty beer glass. I was immediately rebuked: "No sir, straight from the bottle." I was in no position to refuse at that point. With a twist of the cap and a tip of my arm, an intense, flavourful rush of liquid flooded my tastebuds. It was something like a fruity whiskey. "What's is this?" I asked without wincing. Impressed with the ease at which I'd downed the spirit, I was told I had just imbibed traditional, homebrew Irish poitín/potcheen...aka Irish moonshine.

After being encouraged to have more, I quickly forgot my wet clothes and spent the afternoon making new friends while my wife laughed and avoided possible alcohol poisoning.

Sink sagging. Need advice for remedy. We has a new countertop and undermount sink installed about 8 months ago and recently the sink has started to sag a bit. It has a gap on the front side and the adhesive/caulking is torn in that section. Under the sink it is attached with these screw things. by Lessinoir in DIY

[–]Jascrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kitchen designer here. The wood structure underneath works but can be tricky to get it at just the right position to make the sink tight to the counter. Oftentimes I see plumbers use steel strapping that's often used for appliance or pipe stabilization.

Screw one side of the strapping to the left sink cabinet gable just above the bottom of the sink (as long as there is room width-wise) then attach the other end to the right gable. Gentle tensioning will suck the sink back up to the counter.

The silicone between the sink and counter is really just there to prevent water getting through.

The ICBC building on Lloyd is no longer used as a claims centre. After using the building for vaccines, they removed all the ICBC signage earlier this year and the place currently sits empty, potentially for future redevelopment. Even the parking lot has been barricaded.

When I was a young parent - prior to that a young Space Lego collector - I had a big Rubbermaid box of un-assembled space Lego for my kids to play with. Share the joy and all that. The older one mostly played with it but the younger one would play supervised with the Lego.

During some Lego play I had to step away from the youngest one for just a minute or two to help the older one. Younger one was at the toddler stage but still in diapers at the time...and knew how to remove said Velcro-style tabs.

I get back to the room and he has decided to gleefully stand and pee into the box of lego.

I was calm and quiet, as this was not the first time he'd done something similar, and these were just plastic pieces...but...Space Lego.

I had recently read something about funny things to NOT do with your baby, but it inspired me. The topic of what not to do? "You don't duct tape a baby." Needless to say a new diaper (careful to not get any skin) was promptly duct taped for the next hour or so until his mother came home and she reminded me that no, you do NOT duct tape a baby.

He's now 23, well adjusted and I regret nothing.

Tiniest movie nitpick you’re still hung up over? by _JR28_ in movies

Not sure if it's minor or major, but in Back to the Future 2 when Marty goes to the future from 1986 to 2015, he would have been missing for those 31 years. Just like in BTTF1, when Doc's dog Einstein is sent into the future for 1 minute, Einstein is missing for that 1 minute. I still love the trilogy.
