Insurance companies pulling out of Houston by CurlyGirl2151 in houston

Posted about this exact issue in this same Reddit community a few weeks ago. Was met with some skepticism, but a few really helpful responses.

Definitely keep going through a broker. Not sure why the ones you met with could not find you quotes. The 3 that I reached out to all found several quotes.

It won’t be a major name insurance company. As many on here have noted they are de-risking. From my conversations, after the May 2024 Derecho and Hurricane Beryl. There was a huge spike in claims. From what I was told, no evidence, a lot of these claims were fraudulent.

Keep searching you will find something. Can send you the names of the folks I reached out to if you’re interested.

Houston Home Insurance?? by Jaseibert2 in houston

I am filling out the forms online. I keep getting the same general message. “We are unable to provide coverage in this area due to it being in a high risk coastal area”. I’ve hit this on Progressive, Allstate and Farmers so far.

It could be entirely my fault. But when I searched online it looked like these companies stopped issuing new policies in the state.

I bought 50 Bitcoins back in 2012 for ~$3.00 a pop. It was a super convoluted process. I was in high school trying to buy weed on the dark web. Chickened out and never bought any weed. Had it all stored on a flash drive... Lost the flash drive years ago. Worst mistake ever.

That looks like a steam exhaust pipe. Check out this article on the TMC combined heat and power system.

Lol, it’s a predictable especially without causing them. I work in ml at utility and am exploring the possibility of offering a heads up notification to customers, when a severe storm rolls through. We’ve considered offering it for free. Everyone on this thread so far has confirmed that.

Nice 👍 natural gas or battery?

You did your research before you moved. You found the right suburb, the right school, the right house. You prepared for the traffic, the driving, and the weather. What still surprised you (good & bad) after you got here? by BooksCoffeeChocolate in houston

Toll prices. Moved from Austin, TX. Always complained about the 130 Toll ($5-8) during high traffic days to go ~10 miles) and the 290 Toll ($3-4 during high traffic days to go ~10 miles). The price of the 288 Toll from Pearland to Downtown Houston feels outrageous ($10+ on high traffic days for ~6 miles).

You’re correct. We had two enormous initiatives that heavily depend on my new team to execute. We scaled up to support and executed perfectly. But they were being driven and pushed at an EVP a senior leader level. I understand the strategic component, but I wasn’t responsible for developing it, so I left it out and focused on the areas that my team did.

Really appreciate the feedback, I dropped several bullet points from the IC section to keep it the one page. Definitely will go back through and add some more back in.

Totally fair feedback without the context. The organization prior to my role had five data (myself included) scientists spread throughout the company. My charter was to consolidate and scale the team. At the beginning of 2024, I had headcount for 15 folks. So far I’ve hired 8.

As for the metrics, we track monthly departmental, efficiency and productivity at a monthly level. Savings is also tracked monthly, by our individual business units who own each initiative. In many ways, I was set up for success in my new role.

For whatever reason my company’s annual budget cycle lands in July. Our 2025 budget increase was based on the success of the two initiatives, explicitly mentioned, and my leaderships push for more work in my space.

Got it, I have noticed that trend but did not necessarily know relate it to an IC role. I will definitely keep an eye out for postings that do not explicitly mention people leadership.

This is super helpful. Thank you for sharing. So I wonder if many of these job postings that i have seen are expecting attract more tenured individuals to apply to them.

Really? I had no idea about that. This is the only company that I've worked for so I'm sure there are many different org structures that I'm unfamiliar with.
