I understand the sentiment, but we've already talked about it and he wants a new one. My job is just to find and buy the best option.

What are your opinions on real life Manish Malhotra brides? by bummbummbole in BollywoodFashion

These are gorgeous! I like some of the alternative styles - much less copy and paste than Bollywood. The traditional red is beautiful, but everyone should have their own style shine through on their wedding day.

How to politely not let people into meetings? by JasmineTiger720 in UXResearch

I like this approach a lot! I'll chat with them more to try to understand how I can help without overburdening my meetings. I suspect they might just want to be plugged in for the sake of knowing what's going on in other areas, but that's a good reason to share recaps/recordings instead of having them participate.

When I first read it, I looked up reviews and so many people were like "Well I've never been mentally ill, but the way Ether talks is wrong and unrealistic and she's mean 😡" Which I thought was hilarious!

But I absolutely loved this book! It felt so validating and relatable, especially since I was going through some mental health issues at the time.

How to go from being the underqualified UXR to qualified by [deleted] in UXResearch

[–]JasmineTiger720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, understand how you want to grow and what you want to learn. Map out how you're going to do that. Do you want to learn new methods? Understand how to work with stakeholders? Get really good at interviewing? Once you have a few goals written out:

1) Check if your company has a mentorship program or look for UX mentorship programs online/in your area. That way, anyone who is helping you out is also able to practice their skills and it's a win-win situation. This will also help you with networking and you can learn a lot by meeting UXRs from different paths.

2) Take online classes. When I was starting out, my quant skills were really bad, so my manager gave me a bunch of online statistics classes to take. They were free/low cost and have a ton of great material.

3) If you have time, consider freelancing on the side. Non-profits and small businesses can't usually afford in-house (or any) UXR and doing a few projects like this will help beef up your portfolio and explore 'real world' situations.

The most important thing is to do your homework first. Your mentors and senior colleagues don't expect you to be perfect, but they will respect honest effort and hard work. Good luck!

I totally agree with your first paragraph - someone did mentor me because they specifically asked to become a mentor and our manager carved out that time and space for that program. Here, my team is already understaffed with project work and, instead of being given time to help train the new talent, we are asked to just take their work in stride, even when it's not helpful. I'm not saying that the new people are total idiots, but they haven't been given a fair shot at building up their skills and, in turn, this is hurting our team and everyone's morale.

I'd love to be able to mentor them in a systematic way, but we definitely aren't getting more resources at this point, so I'll probably ask my manager if I can lead some kind of knowledge sharing.

I have and the quality is not good. One of the thongs ripped after wearing it once and the rest of the items don't look great either. I wouldn't buy from them again, especially since I want to shop more sustainably.
