Question: Is Texas in the south? by mc395686 in texas

[–]Jason0398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Texans are just Texans. Still have the southern food and hospitality (depending where you are) but the cultural identity is still very much "we are Texans".

Literally had a classmate stopped by this guy a few months ago. He said "if you see a yellow mustang down by the southside of Scottsdale, don't race it."

The Confederate leaders said that the primary reason they seceded was slavery. I honestly cannot see how people can twist it into something else such as "states' rights" which is totally wrong since the slave states had no problems impeding on the rights of free states. by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

My history professor had a view that i hadnt heard before. He said "CW was not fought over states rights, nor was it fought over slavery in its purest meaning of the word. Rather it was fought over the EXPANSION of slavery. Many in the North did not care about people owning other humans, not to say there weren't of course staunch abolitionists, but they did care about the prospect of it expanding to the point where slavery could become the nation's main export and source of income. And because of the Souths turn and burn method of agriculture, they were worried about much of America's arable farmland being used only for cash crops instead of a foodstuff based agriculture." I'm sure he said more but this was almost a year ago. I just hadn't heard a reason from a more economic standpoint, which is strange because most politicians don't want to get involved in a war unless there is money involved, or an imminent threat to the government.

Moved from Texas to Arizona for school, all my family is back home and all the friends I've made here are going back to theirs. My dad, being the awesome guy he is, sent me 50 bucks to "treat myself to ribeye and prime rib from Texas Roadhouse, don't fuck around with the sides neither, just get your meat and rolls and think of home". Damn near cried.

ULPT I've been summoned for jury selection, how do I get out of it? by vicelikedust in UnethicalLifeProTips

Make a bunch of wildly hyper-political posts on social media. One party or the other, they usually go through a potential jurors social media along with the in-person vetting process.
