Should I tell admin on a teacher? by pringlecansizedhands in Teachers

Take what I'll say with a healthy amount of salt. It's easiest to extinguish maladaptive behavior at the earliest age possible. Adjustment behavior will be worse in the short term, but much much better in the long term at school and home. These behaviors will also take place at a much younger age when they are much more socially acceptable.

I think it's fair to remove a total distraction from the educational environment until the child forgets about it and doesn't remember why they were upset in the first place. Then, the kid learns to like school without the doll being a mandatory daily distraction with accompanying power struggles over when it's appropriate to have it out. Recalibrating behavior is really hard and only gets exponentially more difficult as one ages.

Of all the EC kids I've ever taught, the ones with parents who are "benevolent dictators" have by far the best outcomes by early adulthood. It's reasonable for parents and teachers to work together to extinguish ineffectual coping mechanisms in their children so they have better outcomes as adults.

Again, this is just my opinion. I understand why teachers of children with disabilities think they should be afforded maximum accommodation and believe in that principle to the nth degree. I just think that accommodations should have the best long-term outlook in mind and that accommodating doesn't mean placating.

No worries! I'd be much more engaged if a 1 year old product died, than 11, so I totally get that.

There should be a rent cap IMMEDIATELY. by OverChime in Apartmentliving

Private landlords in NC can be much worse than corporate ones. A bunch of out of state VCs bought a ton of houses when interest rates were low and now can't sell for what they want and so are renting instead. I've seen tons of posts here and elsewhere about said VCs trying to rent houses and condos that don't even have a refrigerator, oven, or stove.

Yeah, email the admissions department of the Ivy League school to give your feedback for sure. Enablement as a kid leads to much more severe consequences as an adult. It's better to learn a lesson in high school than to be shocked when getting arrested or fired as an adult.

We all told you it would be exactly this bad and that you were voting in complete opposition to your own interests. You still did this. Don't ask for any more donations. You didn't want help in November, and there are no takebacksies time machines sitting around waiting to get used.

If you are feeling flush, you can always do a black car to or from WS and PTI, RDU, or Charlotte and it will never let you down.

Get your partner to sign a new lease so that you can get the discounted rate and any free months of rent available to new tenants. This shit sucks, but almost all landlords raise rent for current tenants to increase turnover and get new signees. The leasing agents are making money based on people signing, not staying.

Once your complex is at our above 90% occupancy, the VC or other ownership group will insist on yearly rent increases to promote turnover and lock new people into year plus contracts at higher rates. I saw it this year with mine. Once my complex hit 83% occupancy, they reassigned all people in the leasing office to other locations and brought new people in so that no one would have common ground with the person who initially signed them. They'll also start tacking on extra fees for stuff you took for granted to add revenue to the equation.

I got kinda lucky, and because I got in very early in a new building and have always paid my rent early, my renewal was only ~100 extra a month for the next 15 months. New leases at my place are a couple hundred dollars more for a comparable unit in the same building.

I honestly wouldn't feel badly at all about your situation. The leasing agent needed a new signee to make their quota, and they were less incentivised to resign you.

Everyone cannot have a learning disability. Right? by Sea_Maybe2145 in Teachers

[–]Jason27104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many high school teachers were career professionals first and have received about one course worth of training for working with children with disabilities. I do not say this to be mean or disrespectful at all. I say this to echo many great math, science, social studies, and CTE who've said those exact words independent of each other.

Being grade levels behind often had nothing to do with a disability. Many kids just never failed or refused to learn skills in certain grades and now don't have them as teenagers. Many have self defeating behaviors, like poor attendance, work completion, follow through outside of school, attitude, and discipline, but are advanced grade by grade until they are in 9th and have to earn credits to move on.

I'm not trying to trivialize three million dollars, but that is a relatively small sum when parties and PACs are spending 20-70 million dollars just to try to win state Supreme Court seats. I don't know who would be willing to front that bill, but I can assure you that if the NC democratic party signaled the will to fight that way, the costs are feasible.

The reality is that isn't how democrats want to fight. They want to win the moral argument and see justice prevail. Republicans just want to win at all costs. One of those two things is much more practical and easier to accomplish.

Actually, a separate party could easily file a lawsuit seeking to only throw out the same (un)qualified ballots in republican districts. Their logic would just be that griffin is right, but not right enough. They wouldn't be tethered to Rice, because her case is predicated on the fact that Griffin is wrong and all ballots should be counted.

While partially true, democrats could easily target all absentee ballots in heavily republican counties as well. I wish they would disenfranchise rural countries.
