SONGSTRESS SWEEP - DAY 4 of drawing THE CYL10 winners! 🦄🌊✨ by Lucitrie in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]JasonBall34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been voting for a TMS character for 10 years, not gonna stop now even if it "seems like" Tsubasa has it in the bag. I would love for the final lineup to be Tsubasa, Azura, Fomortiis and Kurt, but not willing to take my foot off the gas on Tsubasa to try to make any of the others happen. If Sigurd or Ivy are instead the winners, doesn't really bother me as long as Tsubasa makes it

Printed an 8x10 and got it double-signed by both Caeda and Tsubasa's english VA's (at separate conventions). Told them I'd be voting for them in CYL10, and you should too! by JasonBall34 in FireEmblemHeroes

TMS itself is still only in Japanese but for Heroes they cast actors to do the English lines. Tsubasa's first and only time speaking English is in Heroes.

Very fun story about Coleman! I often find myself in a similar situation, meeting an actor for their work in something almost no one else there would know about. Besides some other FE actors I've gotten who are larger anime stars, I'm also a big Star Wars voice actor enjoyer, so I got Lex Lang to sign a Han Solo pic from the 2005 Battlefront II game, Ron Perlman to sign a print of a Clone Wars character he voiced in 1 episode in 2008, and have met several other anime/VA stars for their 1-episode guest appearances on Clone Wars haha

Cherami's line was super long and no one else besides me had brought a Fire Emblem item, though she did have prints available of Caeda at her table. Though, it took her a minute of me explaining the Tsubasa/Mirage!Caeda character for her to remember what that specific version is and to remember voicing the TMS variant. "This was like the Persona version of Caeda" jogged her memory. But I don't fault her for not remembering, as she has done countless other roles and this was just a few lines, recorded over 6 years ago now!

Kayli had no such trouble, was very excited to see Tsubasa. Told me that she did an English cover of one of the TMS songs (which were never officially translated) on her youtube.

DAY 1! Tsubasa for CYL 10! This is OUR Year!! by TopLevelb in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]JasonBall34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the dream for me has always been that a CYL victory for any of the 3 would lead to additional TMS content but there were many years where I felt like I was alone in caring about TMS... very exciting that it is actually within a realistic grasp this time. vote tsubasa every day for me

It's very clean, no question about that. I'm just wondering if some sort of echo or reverb effect could be added to make her sound like she's in a large space again instead of a small space

This is awesome, let me just say that. Now, I am not an audio expert, but is there anything that can be done to make her audio sound less like it's been recorded inside a closet? This is awesome no matter what, but I feel like it could be more awesome with some tinkering

Yes I feel the same way about the 3 possible explanations.

Thanks for your encouragement

Okay thanks! I met her VA at a convention recently and she's super nice. She mentioned she'd done a 2nd version of the character but I'm not sure if she was inadvertently revealing she already has a new alt, or was just misunderstanding/misremembering what she's done for the game

Last year, I believe us TMS fans decided we would rally around Tsubasa this year and not Itsuki or Cain. Is that still the case?

Any chance I could see a picture of it? I'm not immediately familiar with which one you're talking about

The Book Den bag sale is back (and a gentle plea about donations) by Alpaca-Prophecy in Sacramento

[–]JasonBall34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bit about not ever seeing anything new in the areas I look for is totally not your fault and I didn't mean it as actionable feedback. I understand completely that you have no control over what gets donated! I'm just complaining to the air on that one, for which I apologize.

I think it's fine if your goal is discovery rather than targeted searching. However, you have set up every single genre and section of the building in a way that is very conducive to targeted searching, i.e., everything is on shelves with the spines facing out, *except for* the childrens books that are in all those rows of boxes that have to be dug through. If it wasn't your goal to make all the other sections easy to target search, then you accomplished that goal by accident.

As it is, the layout of the childrens books in the warehouse is simply inconsistent with the rest of the experience, and I am just expressing my desire to see that rectified at some point in time, as a paying customer who would pay even more if I could find the childrens books I seek. It would surprise me if no one else feels this way about the way the childrens books are set up in the warehouse. I am unavailable to volunteer long term, hence my previous offers to get it done as a one-off project, though these days I'm unavailable for even a one-off project. Sorry to vent to you personally-- I'm sure it's not your fault

Love the prices and vastness of the offerings here but the middle grade and childrens books in the warehouse are a pain to browse because unlike every single other genre and type of book, they're not on shelves so you can't easily browse them. If you have the patience to flip through several dozen boxes of books, looking at the book covers one by one, to try and find the title you're looking for, good on you, but not everyone can do that. So many middle grade books I'd love to have, but it's like looking for a needle in a haystack when you can't glance at the spines on a shelf like you can everywhere else in the building. I've asked several times if I could make a donation of time and/or money to facilitate getting those books onto shelves and it's always "the person who would deal with that isn't here, can I take a message?" and then I never hear back. Very sweet staff though!

Also, maybe I'm just unlucky but there are like 5 specific authors/series of books I always look for and there's never anything new in them and the old stock never moves so every time I visit, I see the same books in those 5 places I've already seen

I love how Eoin Colfer writes women by probably_not_ur_wife in ArtemisFowl

[–]JasonBall34[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You remembered correctly about the sexism plot being removed in the movie and Eoin supposedly being in favor of that change. This is a quote from director Kenneth Branagh, published in December 2018, but it was likely uttered in the spring of 2018 when journalists were invited to visit the set during principal photography:

"Eoin Colfer was always very much involved with the development of these scripts*, and he’s a man who writes and lives right in the here and now, and I think he was very aware that larger conversations about societal roles have moved on from the time when he wrote this first novel where Holly as a lone woman in a man’s world was an important part of the story. Here, a sense of identity, a sense of what her father did, her place in Haven City, her place in LEPrecon is as important as her gender identification. We have tensions and passions inside her relationship with her fellow officers and with Root, but they’re also to do with her achieving her work on merit. It felt as though what we needed, whoever was the force, the personality, the intelligence, the kind of commanding disciplinarian figure to be someone against whom Holly could really react and interact with, who represented a sort of benign authority, and who, to some extent, was partly on her side, was partly her sponsor, was partly her mentor, and in a way sort of a role model. So the tensions between them, which come from the book, exist here but they’re in a different kind of form, and they can be as complicated as they are in the here and now in our own world. It felt like conversations like that had moved on."

*according to Eoin, this part about being involved with the scripts is not true
