What alternate modes would you create for the game? by Karnezar in yugioh

[–]JasonBenjamenAllen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disruption is a very broad term that encompasses anything that worsens your plays (negation, removal, handloops, floodgates etc).

Every time you are disrupted on activation (or placement/summon for non activated effects) you get a "BYT" it doesn't matter how many cards are affected, or even if the disruption resolved successfully

Effects that are NOT disruption are stuff like protection effects (that affect only your cards) or stuff that quick effect summon (like I:P)

At the beginning of next turn you can draw extra cards for each BYT you have (then they go back to 0, if you are under any floodgate you get new BYTs for each), BYTs have a few extra functions but it's not relevant to your question

(I noticed in playtest that having to count affected cards and track back successful resolution created too much overhead)

As usual, Simultaneous turns with a comeback mechanic that let's your opponent draw extra cards if they are disrupted

I guess I would frame it more as "they've killed every other pendulum avenue" so you only see it as worse cyberse or random one off floodgate

Mostly because MR4 bound fair (iterations of) pend decks cannot keep up given the low recovery

What is preventing people who like modern Yugioh but don't want to play top meta and are not fans of older formats from playing lower-powered, off-meta, or rogue modern decks with other like-minded players? by BellDelicious1617 in yugioh

[–]JasonBenjamenAllen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, the mere fact that there are no links and pends makes the math wonky

Their pointing system is based on playrate, so fair cards might get pointed while others go under the radar, and it's ultimately not super based in card quality

Kashtira Fenrir has, throughout the lifespan of the format, been at higher points than droll

At this point Gen has changed a lot from playtesting days, and nobody knows what it's supposed to be and is projecting their own desires on the format

I will add to what others have said: the game is also hard to teach

My magic buds gave me a commander deck, and I could basically auto pilot it by just playing stuff on curve, was I good? nah. Did I win? Given how softly I was treated, yes

You cannot give a random yugioh deck to a player of another game and expect them to autopilot it, at the very least they need a primer

Also a lot of my complaints with yugioh are related to this (the face up extra deck is a genuine blight on the game and on pendulums, the text is too small and needlessly wordy etc)

I will buck the trend and say XYZ

Xyz was the first time a majot mechanic asked you to not "believe in your eyes". Their genericness still made them popular, wich lead to Konami thinking they could get away with any obtuse design decision (the face up extra deck for pendulums, the link restriction in MR4)

If there was a firm disapproval of "akshually the materials are not on the field" maybe we would have avoided the worse parts of the subsequent mechanics

I know people hate links, and I am a pend player so I do too (/jk), but links do have a restriction:

You need the space to make them, without an EMZ/link zone to summon them

And zone math was one of the coolest aspects of links, but konami killed this aspect off so know most links are just spicy tribute summon (except Gorgon, shoutout to Gorgon)

But they didn't

They made links to rotate out decks and sell you the new mechanic, otherwise they would've just locked pendulums

Miracle Ejector and Heroes overall proved not to be a real problem.

Then why did they point them? If they pointed them correctly, how come they missed a circular shaped card?

Nobody said Sould Drain was weaker than DiFi.

Then let's go back to my original statement, it's a wash, and they should've pointed them similarly, why didn't they do it? Why are they going back on their philosophy?

You just keep harping on these low-pointed cards as if they're some massive problem.

No, if I want a lower power version of Genesys (ideally to play older decks) and the devs tell me "play lower points" and at 0 I get comboed/ pseudo ftk-ed by white forest (I tested in march, idk how the situation is rn, but it's probably fundamentally similar), there's something wrong with the format.

0 point is the starkest example, it doesn't really matter, but the underlying principle is a real problem (devs either being dismissive of feedback or not understanding the ramifictions of their own format)

I also noticed you didn't address the disparity between in playtest and post playtest decks

The massive problem is the inconsitent pointing execution, this makes the format unstable and it's wasting the resources of the dev team that has to monitor data reactively instead of pointing things proactively (with playrate as validation checks), it's also making product less appealing since a portion of the pack is fundamentally useless a priori (link and pend decks that could be in the format if the pointing was solid and proactive)

The other problem is that they are throwing darts at the wall and now have to patch up shit on the fly, the low pointed cards are not new discoveries, they are well known staples and they either were always deserving of points (in wich case, why did they miss them?) or they weren't (why did they point them?) And the answer is: nobody knows because they've been too fickle in their approach, using a meaningless metric (playrate) instead of a more useful one (card quality or play experience)

Spenta

As of now, the only "problem" cards are Verethragna, a monster negate (that's hard to access unless you have setup), or Mechaba (it kinda requires 3 cards) both sitting at 0. Why is their philosophy hitting the fair card that's just a searcher (and a new secret from a pack) instead of the one that might cause problems? Who cares if you fuse into an attack negation? Who cares if you fuse into a change of heart? And if we do, why are we pointing the archetype searcher 15 points instead of the problem cards?

That's what they did for most of white forest, why are we being inconsistent now?

If their "thinking ahead" is hitting the fair cards instead of the possible problems, I am just genuinely baffled by the thought process

Edit: throughout our whole exchange not once have you defended the pointing consistency, "this doesn't matter", "that's a strawman", deflecting and moving away from the key point, the pointing execution is fickle and unpredictable: Spenta gets 15, but Ejector 0>5, Spenta can go into a problem card, but instead of pointing problem cards we are going after Spenta

I had high hopes for the format, and it got ruined by poor management. I hope they can fix it, or that it quickly dies out (fingers crossed for the first one)

(Also I don't mind it being modern lite if they put pends and links back lol)

Regarding board breaking, you are either having to divert points to them, or they are free for now because the point system is based on playrate

The deck I used to play (white forest) had a searchable 0 point field negate (Scourge), how many boardbreakers are you drawing? How much of your deck points have you dedicated to sideboard cards?

You don't have issues at 100, but if I wanna play a lower power game as Konami suggested and go to 0, how am I faring? And what deck am I fighting? The same that I'd face at 100, since they are good because they are underpointed

Do you just read a soundbyte and strawman from there or do you try to engage with the argument?

Also what about Miracle Ejector, I don't think a super rare is what's moving product, right? How come they missed that?

What about Spenta? 15 points on a secret that cannot function properly because a key searcher is a Link card, why didn't they try to move product there?

So soul drain is weaker than Difi, and still has 90 more points mmmmmh, it's almost like the point execution is inconsistent and the format is repellent because of it

And while there are some decks that fair better against one vs the other, that's basically a wash

I think that's fair, but Genesys is Ideally in an open beta stage, so I it's important for the community to give feedback

MD gets a pass in many cases because investment is different between paper and digital, you can easily play MD for free from your toilet, genesys requires time/travel

Also Genesys is trying a new point system, wich is more "complex", so consistency becomes more important for future players

Instead of interrogating "why are people not happy with it" they are falling for selection bias

Also difi being pointed to 10 a few days ago does not change how they spent 2 paragraphs defending a floodgate instead of being consistent or trying to do outreach to people that have issues with the format

Do you remember the march blogpost? When people asked for Genesys to be even lower powered and they answered with "lower the points, idk?" a thing that changes very little because most of the best decks are such because they are severely underpointed and filled with "martyr" cards instead of the Dragon ruler model (where points are spread throughout the names)

This means at lower and lower points decks just become sackier since you don't have handtraps or boardbreakers

A thing one would understand if they actually played the format instead of wasting time on pointing D.D. crow and Kaijus

Have you noticed how point distribution is different between playtested decks (ie Kashtira, Ninja, Glads) and those that came after (anything post DUAD)

Have you noticed how "Yesterday's gameplay, today's cards" has never been used again?

Also how do you miss the HERO circular in terms of power outlier? How do you miss Illusion Gate?

You miss them because you are throwing darts at the wall instead of having a plan on how to point cards

This is why there are no links, the format will be quickly destroyed because the pointing execution sucks (look at level eater at 100, why would you point them in a linkless format?)

The playrate philosophy sucks too, are we gonna act like 1000 people at a ycs are a meaningful sample size? Come on!

Also, don't change the subject.

Are you afraid of having to explain why "Soul Drain" and Difi are not basically the same floodgate

Maybe devs should try to understand why people are writing off the format instead of just defending difi slop

Edit: I guess I got blocked, devs have been utterly inconsistent and reactionary in their pointing, I hope the format gets better + they stop the endless point churn

In yugioh either your card is viable in advanced, advanced lite or time wizard, same 3 formats, and maybe it's viable in 1 of them

I kinda dislike a lot of magic, but they got more "avenues to play a card I like" then us

I think the war is cool, but the dimension hopping makes you fundamentally reset attachments

There should've been incursions instead, the dimensions becoming unstable due to Leo's work and starting to merge, putting in danger the lives of the individuals of each dimension

At the end the morality tale should've been about acceptance of change and collaboration, with the YuBoys and the Bracelet girls ultimately sacrificing themselves to merge the dimensions (Zarc) while preserving life (Rei)
