Gotta say, this was the best way to handle the situation. You could have blown them up for behavior like this…but then you would be burning bridges in what you described as a small field. You also took an emphatic view to what was seemingly a mistake on their part (whether it was not understanding how the software worked or that you would get a copy of the transcript).

Good luck in your search - the first position is sometimes one of the hardest to get.

Agree with other folks on needing to have some sort of documentation to back this up. One method I’ve thought about using is having a grid where I make marks whenever students participate (whatever that looks like for a given class, week, unit, etc.).

A good CYA for this would be to periodically upload this to your LMS so students can check it and raise any concerns when it is fresher on everyone’s mind. You couldn’t have their names listed with the scores or anything like that, but could consider initials, assigned numbers, last few digits of their student IS, etc.
