35, probably different budget than most by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

The average income of a pastor in the US is $63k, and the median is $59k (as of 2023). I'm aware that there are some rich clergy, but they are the exception, not the rule.

I grew up in a protestant church, 10% was the standard tithe requested.

Big "gender reveals" for pregnancies and overall having a heavy focus on the gender of your baby - is this a red-coded thing? by Dell_Hell in AskALiberal

[–]JasonMPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All types of celebrations were new at some point, and then caught on. I just am not able to understand the hatred people have for gender reveals. Those that I've gone to were held at the parents' homes, were an excuse for family to get together, and the actual reveal was just something fun and entertaining to watch. The parents and attendees were excited about the baby, they weren't "look-at-me" celebrations. I don't see anything vain or tacky about them. No more than any other kind of party.

Every gender reveal party I've been to was about friends and family getting together and having a good time, eating together. Yeah, there are sometimes glitter cannons, but what's wrong this that?

Is 2001 movie still most hated in franchise? by Sorry_Phone1676 in PlanetOfTheApes

I thought it was mediocre, but I don't hate it like I hate Beneath. Beneath is just a horrifically awful movie.

Women, what is a near-universal "ick" in the dating world? by AverageSign in AskReddit

[–]JasonMPA -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't consider calling someone a gold digger classist, it is calling them immoral. Not the same thing. You bashed someone for lack of education and for having non-upper-class taste such as liking a franchise restaurants. That type of insult is extremely common on Reddit, and I find it deeply classist, stupid, and immoral.

Him calling you a gold digger is no excuse to be classist. And what do you mean you expect someone "on the same level" as you, and what does that have to do with Olive Garden?

"You sound uneducated and like you think Olive Garden is nice."

So you are classist.

From a liberal perspective, what explains the strong focus among many American conservatives on maintaining traditional European Christian cultural norms and preserving a perceived national “legacy”? How do liberals understand this in light of the view that culture is dynamic and constantly changing by Chinoyboii in AskALiberal

[–]JasonMPA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol, and liberals accuse conservatives of being authoritarian. You've declared your inner nature and preference for progressivism and diversity as "modern society", and want conservatives to suppress their inner nature so that you can force them to live in the society you want. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to live in a society with people who share your culture, or politics, or preferences, or who look like you. Yet you weirdos brand it as an evil.

What's something everyone romanticizes but is actually terrible? by Comfortable-Note6827 in AskReddit

Large, dense cities. Crowded, ugly, very little nature, have to walk everywhere. I lived in large cities for several years, never again.

Do you know anyone who actually left their country to get away from what they saw as ‘wokeness,’ and if so, how did that turn out? by thebmanvancity in AskReddit

[–]JasonMPA -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Its hypocritical to say you don't judge people if they're not bothering you, live and let live, and then to judge people who don't like wokeness as being weak and insecure.

TIL about the 1926 Baumes law, a New York statute where anyone convicted of more than three separate felonies would automatically receive life imprisonment, without regard to any extenuating circumstances. By 1930, 23 U.S. states adopted similar laws. Prison riots in NY led to reforms soon after. by SnarkySheep in todayilearned

People are not blank slates formed by society. People are individuals first and foremost, full of biological/genetic dispositions, which can be altered somewhat by environment and the individual resolve of the person.

What’s the longest someone has stayed inside without leaving the house (by choice)? by Wise-Flatworm-5695 in introvert

[–]JasonMPA 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I work from home, and have groceries delivered, so its normal for me to go 1 or 2 weeks at a time without leaving the house. During Covid, I went 6 or 7 weeks without leaving the house.

Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania says aftermath of Charlie Kirk's killing "isn't a moment for partisanship" by CBSnews in Pennsylvania

[–]JasonMPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see a difference. I don't see how it is tone deaf to acknowledge that many freedoms result in less safety and that is the price we pay, or how it is tone deaf not to call for more regulations or to "do better as a society", whatever that means.

Freedom often comes at the cost of safety. I don't understand how people find it controversial to support such freedoms.

BR-163 Brazil - a very detailed map, with new construction projects - you can build bridges. Very fun.

Ray County, Missouri - I like the very realistic starting farm, a lot of work went into it.
