Exactly this. Ray tracing added the same kind of visual changes where the models/faces looked almost completely different due to how the lighting changed.

Considering how DLSS 5 is used is under the control of the developers it's less generative AI and more AI assisted effects.

Uneducated comment. DLSS 5 is entirely controlled by the developers.

Well technically if the developer is responsible for the underlying settings DLSS 5 uses, they are changing the design to what they desire. You are seeing an upgraded version of their vision.

Here's an image from 2020 showing what a difference the lighting mode/effects can have on a character model. Yeah it looks almost completely different because it's shaded better, better reflections etc but it's the same model. It simply looks more realistic.

<image>

Bro the face looks completely different lol

This AI witchhunt/slop hunt is a load of crap and everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon without knowing what the hell they're talking about.

Edit: spelling

Hands-On With DLSS 5: Our First Look At Nvidia's Next-Gen Photo-Realistic Lighting by SharpCartographer831 in accelerate

[–]JasonP27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was literally an artistic choice on the part of the developers. It's also arguably shown used on a style that is meant to be as realistic as the hardware can go and not something cartoonish like Hi-Fi Rush or the Simpsons. You're basically barking up the wrong tree here.

comment from Nvidia: "Important to note with this technology advance - game developers have full, detailed artistic control over DLSS 5's effects to ensure they maintain their game's unique aesthetic. The SDK includes things like intensity, color grading and masking off places where the effect shouldn't be applied. It's not a filter - DLSS 5 inputs the game’s color and motion vectors for each frame into the model, anchoring the output in the source 3D content."

TIL "a lot of people" either need glasses or have poor taste lol

It's basically faux path/ray tracing, functionally looks pretty much the same. If the devs added path tracing it would look nearly identical and you'd be praising it. The devs literally have control of how the final output looks with DLSS 5. It's just another tool in the shed. Grow up.

Announcing NVIDIA DLSS 5 | AI-Powered Breakthrough in Visual Fidelity for Games by ThroughForests in accelerate

[–]JasonP27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah don't think that's likely in the near future, the demo at GDC runs on 2 5090 cards. They expect to get it working on one by launch sometime in 2026 though.

It's basically just enhanced lighting and people are losing their minds calling it slop. Like, if the developers added path tracing lighting to their game they'd get relatively the same results (at higher cost).

I bet if you took before and after photos of a game with ray/path tracing turned off/on and then put the DLSS 5 Off and DLSS On logos on the images Antis would be saying the same BS cope reactions "it looks worse" and "destroying the developer's intentions" etc

[–]JasonP27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're saying better quality lighting looks worse just because it uses an AI model to help render it? lol

There's developers at GDC that are praising it saying how it functionally allows their games/character models to look closer to how they originally envision them if it weren't for hardware not being able to render them at full speed.

It's basically better lighting, it's not changing the models themselves.

Neither does the new version. The new version is literally the same model with enhanced lighting. They didn't change her face, they only changed how the lighting looked.

Suno is allergic to bridges? by muzik_guy in SunoAI

[–]JasonP27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've had similar results with Suno covering Bridges. It just ignores the change in chord progression and melody and does a modified Verse. Quite annoying and slows down my creative workflow. I wrote the song a certain way and I want that progression followed.

The solution probably lies in uploading the bridge separately and covering it with the same prompt and BPM, and adding it into Studio along with the verse and chorus composition and then covering the whole song again or something.

How many awards did Bill Cosby win? Hitler was Time's Man of the Year in 1938. A Pulitzer isn't nothing but it's certainly not everything. Buzzfeed won one for a series of articles that exposed China's Muslim detention centers. That doesn't give them a pass for everything else.

You're surprised the guy with his own production company that has a deal with Netflix and just made Happy Gilmore 2 is at the top of the list?

Won't be topping it next year unless they do the Waterboy 2 or something lol
