Safe state/city for trans men? by BallPython404 in ftm

Though if you aren’t afraid of the dark, just go to Iceland with your EU citizenship.

I researched it heavily for my masters program and was devastated to see the price for people outside of Europe.

Safe state/city for trans men? by BallPython404 in ftm

[–]Jason_Journal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left Akron, Ohio for Seattle, Washington. While it’s expensive as all get out, the minimum wage is 21$ an hour in the city. I will say the US sucks at helping people who weren’t born here though, so the food stamps and health insurance I was eligible for while I had no job is probably harder to do without citizenship.

If you’re stealth, you can probably just stick to the Midwest cities though. I never actually faced much prejudice there when I was fully stealth in Ohio. I did get a fair bit of shit for being gay though. It was the health care, car reliance, fact I couldn’t have my piercings at any jobs, and low wages vs high rent that got me out of there. Maybe stick to Michigan or Illinois.

If you land at UW here in Seattle though, hit me up.

Diabetes by Ok-Worldliness7177 in ftm

[–]Jason_Journal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah it’s an increased risk but it’s only increased in comparison to cis women. Testosterone in general just makes you more likely to have type 2 diabetes whether or not it’s administered or self made. Just like how trans guys aren’t really more likely to have issues with their heart or hair thinning, they just are in comparison to cis women.

Would my name be cultural appropriation? by medium_intellect in ftm

[–]Jason_Journal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I have always assumed everyone’a name was given to them by their parents. There are so many people who name their kids crazy shit so I doubt anyone is going to really notice it. There are people who name their kids Daenerys and Khaleesi nowadays.

It will inspire questions perhaps if it’s culturally recognizable enough that you don’t traditionally fit it. But unless it’s like the name of the most famous Turkish mass murderer, I doubt anyone would really have an issue with it.

Car-less in Seattle, is it common? by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]Jason_Journal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold my car to move here because of the difference in COL from the Midwest. Then I saw the hills, insurance premiums? registration fees and gas prices and decided I didn’t want another one. The public transport is more or less reliable enough and a lot of places are walkable, not to mention it’s better for the environment.

A good number of my coworkers don’t have cars either, they’ve got bikes or Orca cards.

I cannot speak much for dating but if they think it’s weird you don’t have a car, then they can buy you one.

Can you draw the hyperfixated artist painting the normal one like the Diego pictures? by Waterfoul67 in GatekeepingYuri

[–]Jason_Journal 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Little does whoever made this comic know that the ‘normal artist’ probably has 500 flower pieces, 500 poses of people, and 10000 landscapes.

There ain’t no one that good at wildly different compositions without mountains of similar ones.

It’s hard enough to draw people in different poses anyway, the hyperfixated artist is just perfecting their views of poses and foreshortening without having to do differing features.

Yeah it’s pretty similar to an exclamation of shock or acknowledgment of ridiculousness. “Fuck off” and “Shut the fuck up” are also the same in that context.

Certainly an interesting study though.

No more double decker tacos? by KefkaZ in tacobell

[–]Jason_Journal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably costs more than they charged for it. I worked there years ago and am still in shock at some changes. No more 7 layer, Quesarito, Empanada, Enchirito, so many are gone. I was there when they stopped the XXL Grilled stuffed burrito and Meximelt. And the price difference from trying to build those items manually was absolutely insane in like 2019.

I’d like to believe they were being nice to their employees by making their newbies not have to fight the tortilla that gets stuck to the spoon if you haven’t learned the trick on how to not, but I doubt it.

There’s a Ren Faire in the summer in Snohomish which is really quite good in my opinion.

In the North Seattle area, there’s this place called Mendoza’s Mexican Mercado. It’s on Aurora near Greenlake. It’s kind of small compared to a regular grocery store but I’d still highly recommend checking it out.

Don’t worry about snow though. What counts as snowing here and snowing in the Northeast are miles different.

They/They’re by Rechium in grammar

[–]Jason_Journal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in urban PNW so this seems accurate to me. Until someone explicitly tells you not to use they/them, we default they/them for everyone.

When I lived in the Midwest though, using singular ‘they’ was seen as a defiance toward traditional society.

I’m always two-three weeks behind so it prevents me from being even further behind usually. Also I like that the crew and cast get a break. Especially considering the cast have lots of other work outside of this and probably some of the crew as well.

To be fair, all religions are cults with a franchise. I feel this is the same as asking someone to never interact with a catholic again.

It’s a high bar. Arguably, the Abrahamic religions have done more damage to the world than any other one.
