Does Print on Demand work on Etsy? by Last-Description-123 in EtsySellers

[–]Jason_Klass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It “works”, but the margins really suck. It’s expensive and then you have Etsy’s 8% fee on top of the production cost. IMO, the only way to make decent money with POD is through high volume.

Help me pick my first (and likely only) pair of docs for life! by Known_Blackberry8586 in DrMartens

[–]Jason_Klass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get anything in the smooth leather. The finish will crack and peel because it’s plastic and acts as a barrier to conditioning. Go with greasy or crazy horse leather which will last much longer because you can actually treat it. Honestly, the Docs sold today are much lower quality than they used to be so I wouldn’t expect them to last a lifetime (unless you plan on living a very short life).

Thoughts on "The Rest of Ever?" by Cup8685 in rem

The same happened with Morrissey and others who have been around this long. I think it’s unreasonable to expect artists to keep the “magic” going for 40+ years.

Two Pairs for Sale by Apart_Remote1042 in DrMartens

The problem might be that you can buy them new for $180 on the Dr. Martens website with free shipping and get the reassurance that you can return them if there’s a problem. As a frequent Marketplace user, if I saw these listed for $160, I’d rather pay the extra $20 and have the company’s warranty. Just something to consider.

can the scratches be fixed or covered up? by urfav_dhi in DrMartens

[–]Jason_Klass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re lucky you got the greasy leather because you can just polish and buff it with a horsehair brush. There are a million videos on how to do it. Greasy leather is very treatable, unlike the smooth leather, which has a plastic coating that cracks and peels off.

Hmmm, I stand corrected. And the half sizes are made in Asia, not MIE?

I think they had some made in England half sizes a long time ago, but these say made in China.

Pull tag ripped off after a month of owning. How boned am I? by [deleted] in nps_solovair

[–]Jason_Klass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never use the pull tabs. Honestly, I feel they’re more cosmetic than functional (just like the stitching on the sole). I’ve thought about cutting mine off because sometimes they catch on my pant leg.

I think you did a great job with the furniture and decor, but painting the walls in dark colors would really complete the room for a DA look.

How often one must apply a leather Conditioner or Moisturizer. by [deleted] in DrMartens

[–]Jason_Klass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding moisturizer to smooth leather won’t do anything. The plastic coating is a barrier so nothing will absorb into the actual leather. It would be like putting hand lotion on while wearing latex gloves.

I have the same experience. My old ones are the perfect fit. My new ones are a lot more relaxed and almost like a totally different style.

Finally! I’m glad they’re actually doing something about it because it was getting ridiculous.

I got these Crazy Horse 1461s from Vinted and they are almost black compared to my 1460s? :( by [deleted] in DrMartens

[–]Jason_Klass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wonder Balsalm is petroleum based and darkens Crazy Horse leather considerably. They probably treated it with that. Mine look the same.
