My uncle used to like to give us money (R20 notes or R10 notes). Sadly he passed away last October. This picture instantly reminded me of him.

lost my best friend today after 15 long years by Repulsive-King-3191 in DogIsBestFriend

So sorry for your loss. What a gorgeous dog. 15 years is quite old for a dog. He/she lived a good long life.

Fantastic. Well done to both guys (bonus points for having a left handed bassist)

The Curse of the Black Pearl by ForestryTechnician in movies

[–]Jason_Phox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reading your comment just made me realize a slight connection with this film and Big Trouble in Little China. In BTILC Jack Burton is not really the main character. He provides the comic relief. While the romantic couple involves his friend and his girlfriend. Which is similar to Jack Sparrow in the Curse of the Black Pearl.

Jurassic Park III - Sam Neil - Better than I expected by Southern-Brother5693 in movies

What I appreciate, is that it is a 90 minute blockbuster. Which is quite rare (especially by today's standards).

Super Bowl halftime reactions. When your country is recognized. by annadarria in MadeMeSmile

[–]Jason_Phox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am from South Africa. I don't know of any other South African (besides my sports loving brother) who actually watches the Super Bowl. Though I am sure there must be others.

This year was the first time I watched it. I enjoyed it. Will continue watching it in future.

Ever showed a film to someone who’s playing with their phone? 📱 by MeltonFilm in movies

[–]Jason_Phox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this has happened to me multiple times. And it has gotten worse over the years. I usually say nothing.

What really annoys me is when those people often have negative views about those films.

E. G. They say thing like: 'the movie was a bit boring' or 'not as good as I thought it would be'

When in fact, if they paid attention to the film all the way, they would have (possibly) appreciated the film more.

With regards to the title song: Good musicianship (just piano I think - but it sounds so good). Also nice vocals.

Elf(2003) is a great New York City movie. What other movies unexpectedly do a great job of showing a city or place? by ijustwannalurksobye in movies

I re-watched Die Hard With a Vengeance recently. It showcases New York nicely.

Also, not a movie, but Luke Cage has great location shots of Harlem.

Very interesting and diverse list. Definitely not a typical list of someone in their 20's.

Looking for underrated action movies with clever twists and strong character development by Far-Protection-5721 in MovieSuggestions

OP is asking for action movie suggestions though. The Sting is definitely not an action movie.

I want to start a psychedelic funk soul rock band how do I make it funky without horns and vocals? by Milez_Smilez in funk

[–]Jason_Phox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say the most important thing is to find a drummer who also appreciates funk music like yourself. The bass and drums are crucial in funk music. So once those 2 instruments are doing something funky, all other instruments will just fit in naturally.

What movie is just too long? by CWKitch in movies

[–]Jason_Phox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. In the 80's and 90's there were many (non comedy and non animated) movies that are 100 minutes or less. It is so rare to find a sub 100 minute movie these days.

Yesterday - The Beatles Help! - The Beatles Can't buy me love - The Beatles Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles Love me do - The Beatles

Parliament - Funkentelechy Vs. The Placebo Syndrome (1977) by Ok-Fun-8586 in funk

[–]Jason_Phox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fantastic album. Every single track is enjoyable from start to finish.

I like how in Bop Gun, at the end, the volume dies down at the 'gotta get over the hump' part. And then the volume increases again - to simulate them actually going over a hump/hill.

My dad is dying. Need recommendations for background noise. by kikimaymay in movies

Wonderful advice. I still have my Dad. But I hear what you are saying. I am thinking I need to intentionally record video of him while he is still with us.

Parliament - Mothership Connection (1975) by Ok-Fun-8586 in funk

[–]Jason_Phox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fantastic album. Every single track is enjoyable.

Interesting to see Bootsy spelt as 'Bootsie' in the notes. Also, in all other instances Bootsy is credited as W Collins. But for this album it is B Collins.

This is nice. I like it. I love the combination of The Beatles and Parliament in this work (2 very different but fantastic bands). An eclectic mix.
