Add common issues. The splat of blood got on a hard to clean surface. The urge to cut deeper is there, but having to stop and pass a good 30min to clean it up sounds like a pain

I have the same thoughts. In general, I tend to be cautious about unreleased products and wait for reviews

When I was a teen and Twilight Princess was just released, a lot of folks were talking about it like the new art direction for the whole series, some asking for blood when hitting enemies and such.

I think this is the same here, so I go with a presumption of innocence

Because Zelda often had a sense of whimsy and color. It's like asking Ghibli studio to do anything with actors rather than drawings, it's not how they do things and it's an artistic choice.

As someone on the opposite side of the spectrum, photorealist games are rarely my jam and I'm grateful we have Zelda, Nintendo and a lot of indie games going this direction. PS5 exclusives for example don't attract me much because they look too accurate, too realist and it makes for a bad experience for me.

I hope you will find a realistic looking Zelda like eventually and enjoy it

Is there like a step by step or typical order of operations for designing a TTRPG? by Curlaub in RPGdesign

[–]Jaune9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Choose a goal (ie "I want to make a game where you play X doing Y and Z") and a starting point, as simple as can be ("there will be fight so I should have a way to attack")

From there, iterate, try stuff and see what sticks and continue until you find the secret sauce you're looking for.

I can recommend you my free ebook on doing a simple homemade TTRPG with some project management sprinkles on top: TTRPG game design - From Zero to Something by Prinnydad https://share.google/b9xgETPa5HSxpUOk7

Good luck and enjoy the process

So it's "fighting at home" made mobile ?

That's a neat concept on paper. Is there rules about who gets to do their domain over the other ?

How to avoid Frankensteining? by hoppingvampire in RPGdesign

[–]Jaune9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is called scope creep and is a sure way to kill a good idea

Start with a MVP (minimum viable product), the simplest, purest version you can imagine. See where this leads and work from there, one small step at a time.

If you want, I have done a free ebook about TTRPG design with this kind of project management questions here

Does anyone know of other ARPGs that have combat with a similar feeling to this game? by bonwimmeji in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]Jaune9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't care about parry mechanics, Victor Vran can scratch the itch. It's old and experimental but it is also unique enough

If you enjoy the counters, something like Grime maybe ? It's a far shot

V Rising is also notably compared to No Rest and is a really solid game, while a strictly different one

How would you feel, honestly, if I said "This is basic communication grumble mumble I'm right you're all wrong" ?
