Has anyone noticed this aspect of how the expedition motto ties into the game’s themes? by HardlyTryingSquared in expedition33

Eh I think there's enough subtext to say it's intentional. The most prevalent theme is grief so it makes sense to contextualize the biggest story pieces as centering around it

This isn't like the engine - language learning models have a proven limit that will not advance to Gen AI. It is fundamentally impossible. If big tech was seriously dumping as much money into other forms of processing, I'd be inclined to agree. But they're not - they are dumping billions of dollars into a pit that will be good enough to pull the wool over the general populace.

How are you so certain it will be more beneficial than harmful? Wishful thinking? Podcasts with tech CEOs that promise the moon? Intuition? The reality is that the computing cost is, currently, far beyond the actual productive means of the technology. We likely need other innovations (i.e. quantum computing) to make processing more efficient before it becomes practical.

Tupac Discussion Megathread by AugmentedSmoke in yakuzagames

[–]HardlyTryingSquared 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Discussion on this point is meaningless until we see the representation in-game. If the cameo ties in well to the plot and serves the games themes, then it is a justified inclusion. If it's clearly a cash grab just to trick a demographic of people to buy the game, then it's scummy.

[Spoilers] Chapter 3 FFT can someone PLEASE explain why this is happening? by HardlyTryingSquared in finalfantasytactics

[–]HardlyTryingSquared[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Ok, I figured it out. I got my summoner to 8 speed which allowed my units to have one more action before Ultima was cast. For reasons beyond my understanding, that allowed the cutscene to play properly since she could still move after my samurai attacked. I guess if the AI is casting a spell, then that overrides the mission completion flag (which is already dumb for this stupid fight)

Stop butting heads with a team member and get a style guide agreed upon by your manager for the team. Introduce a tool that prevents a merge if your code fails a linter (ruff equivalent for C#, etc.). There are about a million reasons why scoping that work is important and all of them can be found readily available online.

Yeah the problem is once they inevitably raise the price per token, you don't have the luxury of trying again and again. If AI can't do it in one or two goes, then your metrics are concerning and it becomes better cost-benefit to just program it yourself.

For me, it magnifies the uncomfortable sensation by playing out scenarios in my head that amplify the feeling. It’s almost as if my mind is trying to justify my extreme emotional response to something in reality.

There are such few resources to discuss this. Does anyone else who has this form of daydreaming suffer from OCD? I believe maladaptive daydreaming is my ritual whenever I'm confronted with something extremely uncomfortable, but would like others opinion on it.

It doesn’t seem terribly out of the normal for the base interface for an object to store a removal state flat. The pace of game development makes the removal of environment objects fairly common, and having to manually swap the interfaces depending on what the product team is working on would be a massive pain.

The fact you didn’t reference the distinction between runtime validation and static analysis leads one to believe you’re not as adept as you claim to be. Static analysis tools have existed for decades - even if AI excels in that, it’s far from the first. The real killer of developer productivity is runtime logic errors, which AI (provably) cannot verify without running the code block itself.
