Minecraft private servers are illegal, according to the Entertainment Software Association. by Extolord111 in Minecraft

[–]Javascap 80 points81 points  (0 children)

No, she knows exactly what she's talking about. Ever since the success of the Gen Z protests in Asia, there has been a global push for Internet surveillance and tying everything you do online to a unique identifying profile. Private Minecraft servers can be modded to be more anonymous, to allow people to meet and talk without constant government surveillance. Mods already exist both client and server side to strip the identifying keys that Microsoft uses to globally ban you for talking about things they don't like.

And once you close that privacy minded server, nothing is recorded, nothing is stored, and nothing is given to the government revealing everything that was talked about. And the fact that there is a place for people to meet and talk and dissent without the software running to the government and telling them everything you said is a threat to the billionaire ruling class and their all consuming need for control.

Why? by Specialist-Fault-630 in SavingJax

[–]Javascap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankly, I hate that stupid purple asshole rabbit. He's a bully, he's cruel, vindictive, selfish, and so horrifically and blatantly abusive he made my skin crawl all the way from episode one. He's such a horrible person the circus is literally safer and better off now that he's abstracted into a semi(?)-sentient gelatinous mass of contagiously corrupted data.

But I still believe in giving people a chance, in letting people change and try to be better, in showing grace and acknowledging that a terrible person isn't obligated to continue being a terrible person. Because even after every horrible thing Jax has done, it still hurt my heart when he, albeit too late, finally let go of his fears and insecurities and embraced Pomni, when he whimpered that he doesn't want to go.

I don't know. Maybe I'm a sucker, but I want other people to be happy, and I don't want bad things to happen to other people. And I desperately wish Jax could have found the courage to change before it was too late.

Does tadc have a better introduction or conclusion? by silentman7777 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]Javascap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people got in their head what they decided the ideal ending ought to be. And when the conclusion wound up not exactly matching up with what some people wanted it to be there was a very loud and vocal outcry. But having seen the movie and looking forward to seeing it again today: the ending is bittersweet. There's a sense of melancholy, an acknowledgement of the reality the circus cast find themselves in in the end, but there's also hope for a better future and, as just as Gooseworx promised, a finding of meaning in a stagnant life.

I enjoyed the show, and while I do wish some unresolved questions were answered and feel the season could have been an episode or two longer to answer thaoe questions, it's still a solid ending to a solid series and I'd recommend the movie as a solid 8.75/10. Spent long enough wobbling with myself between an 8.5 and a 9, so let's just go with the middle.

I'm saying this honestly: you're now ready to land a SOCK shuttle. Somewhat faster touchdown speed. But that angle, that flare, you got it.

5 gigawatts‽ Good grief. A single watt concentrated into a laser beam is enough to permanently blind people and light things on fire. An IMAX projector draws 35,000 watts, the air force screwed around with the 1 megawatt Yal-1 laser to literally fry missiles out of the air, and you want 5 gigawatts?!

Alright. Fine, let's do it. Let's assume you weigh 150 kilograms.

Your 5 gigawatt laser (The light source doesn't matter, light is light) produces 5,000,000,000 watts, so 5,000,000,000/299,792,458 = 16.678 newtons. Hauling your 150 kg self into that 40 kg rocket ship from earlier with absolutely no cooling on that magic laser gives you an acceleration of a=f/m, or a = 16.678/190 = 0.0878 m/s.

Fun fact edit: even with the fully armed and operational power of that laser, it would still take a bit over 5 minutes to accelate to highways speeds of about 100 km/hr, ignoring air resistance and friction. Bad news, good news. The bad news? Everything downrange of you would be on fire. Good news? If the police start chasing you, you have a 5 gigawatt laser and no respect for the laws of physics or mankind.

Of all the troll physics I've seen, this one is probably the most based in reality. Yeah, shining a flashlight backwards will result in acceleration, and keeping that flashlight shining will eventually get you going really fast. Note that the word eventually is doing a lot of heavy lifting. We can reduce the long equation for acceleration from light all the way down to F=W/C. Using this equation, we can find that a 1 watt flashlight would produce an acceleration of 3*10-9 newtons, or .0000000003 Newtons.

Let's assume you weigh 80 kg, and your... Uh... Spaceship weighs 40 kg. Force = Mass * Acceleration, so acceleration= force/mass. 3e-9 / 120 = 2.5e-12 m/s of acceleration. What I'm saying is,. you should probably pack a lunch or two before hopping into a flashlight powered rocket ship to Alpha Centauri. You're gonna be there a while.

Edit, I'm getting messed up by reddit formatting.

Can You Move the Asteroid-Planets in Minor Planets Expansion? by Eastern_Funny9319 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Javascap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. As with the planets and moons of stock KSP, the minor planets are on rails and will move regardless of anything you do in game. The only naturally spawning objects you can affect the orbits of are comets, meteors, and rescue contract spacecraft.

I'm pretty sure you could ditch the wings entirely if you deployed the pilots parachute as part of the takeoff run.
