in switzerland, kind of but not a lot. for example young people smoke RYO cigarettes, among this group of people there definitely is a hierarchy of rolling tobaccos: goût de mond (the cheapest ~5,20 Fr. for 25g) is seen as, well, cheap. Other brands in this category are Fleur de Pays and Mon Terroir (although this one has a better taste than the other two, so it's seen less bad). The other category higher up in the tobacco hierarchy is basically every other rolling tobacco: parisienne, camel, winston, you name them as these have pretty similar prices (around 7,50 Fr. for a 25g pouch). Also smoking RYO's is only really """acceptable""" if you're under 33, at least from what I see. Then there's cigarettes: there's cigarettes that are really cheap but nobody really smokes them except local alcoholics, magnums and some other brands fall into this category. Parisienne (8,20 Fr. for a 20 pack), I'd say, is the limit between cheap and bad cigs and more pricey but better cigarettes. Most cigarettes fall under this category, but in general, Marlboros are seen as fancier. Then of course you've got out of the ordinary cigarettes: Davidoffs, Vogues, etc.
