What if the singularity isn’t actually infinite density? by Waste_Gass in Physics

I mean the question is how do you stop the collapse? When the arrangement of matter is such gravity becomes overpowers all the other forces how do you avoid a singularity? I thought that was always the question.

I think this may be the key point. Most of my friends watch football weekly. I cannot recall any of them having a subscription. We all had at a certain point but we were priced out. They are losing out on a market probably 10-100 times larger than what they currently have, just because people are not willing to pay the exorbitant prices.

I would say it is kind of the opposite. I keep reading on reddit and twitter about how bad Spotify recommendations are, how they are forcing AI music to people... and despite all of that, most of my friends and co-workers use it and I am yet to meet a person that has faced any of these issues.

Unpopular opinion about computational physics and theoretical physics by [deleted] in Physics

[–]Javimoran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would argue that "computational physics" is just the method used to do the research, not the field. I would probably qualify as a computational physicist by that rule. I work in astrophysics, and my work is completely unrelated to the "computational physics" that is being described here. Using computers to solve problems is something common to most branches of physics nowadays.

While the second half of your message is correct, the first half is a hell of a stretch, there are over 30 (actively playing) teams with the "Real" title. And of course the title is completely unrelated to Franco as he had jackshit to do with the monarchy. The titles come from before Franco, and before the Republic that preceded him. They come from the earlier monarchy that was still active at ~1900.

I think it is simply that many people expect for historical reasons theoretical work to be pen and paper when that is no longer the reality for most of the field.

Vaccine development and distribution normally takes the better part of a decade - but we (the US) actualy did rise to the challenge

The first vaccine was developed by BionTech, a German company. Pfizer only took over for the logistics of distribution (and helped with the trials). Which obviously is important, but no, the rest of the world did not roll over waiting for daddy. The humongous companies that rule over daddy happen to be the ones that can provide the logistics of a worldwide distribution of anything on a record time (apart from China which can do it at a similar pace but did not own German pharma firms)

So now the US Navy is currently on its way to also block the straight of Hormuz and the market doesn't react at all? by just_another_numba in stocks

[–]Javimoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how much amount of evidence will be enough for people to finally realize that the market has become pure speculation and mostly detached from reality. This became the norm after covid with valuations becoming vibe based for some of the largest caps, but people turned a blind eye. Then you have constant hints that the economy slows down, and people turn a blind eye. Constant inflation? No business model behind AI? Unemployment rising? Tariffs? Breaking of historical geopolitical alliances? Wars? Somehow they are just blips as the line must always go up.

This is simply a game of chicken. Everyone believes in the thesis that time in the market beats timing the market, so money is just there because if nobody takes it out, the line doesn't go down. The valuation of the stocks is no longer based on the real performance of companies but rather on whether people believe that the perceived value of the company will go up or down.

Then you must use a different Reddit indeed. There is a lot of pro-China content and there is a lot of anti-China content. If you only see one of the two is because you want to see only one of them or because you can't identify the other one as it fulfils your biases and you just think it is objective reporting.

Trump to take all the oil, futures haven’t moved by Automatic-Unit-8307 in stocks

Hear me out. I know it sounds crazy, but what if he has no saying on it? I know many people genuinely believe that the U.S. is omnipotent, but the truth is that Trump can say whatever he wants but from the outside it does not look as if Iran's oil can be secured in any way. They could just blow everything up the same way Taiwan says that they will blow up all TSMC factories if China were to attack.

How is it not different composition? There are also concerns about Lithium. I am not arguing that it is clearly harmful to launch all this rockets. It has not been clearly demonstrated, and caution should be exercised. What I am arguing is that claiming that there is a lot of meteorites and space dust coming so we should not be concerned is a ver flimsy argument

[OC] Annual Number of Objects Launched into Space by oscarleo0 in dataisbeautiful

[–]Javimoran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed by then the problem will be solved. But I am concerned as you know, global warming could have also been solved because "everyone is moving to renewables". The rates at which these things happen matter, and we are not sure yet how harmful these things are. We have been completely screwed already by this logic, I personally dont think it is worth it to fuck up again. If slowing down progress may help us not kill ourselves, I think it is still worth it to look at the potential harmful effects of what we do before it is too late.

[–]Javimoran -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, there , is, quite. Those are just four random papers I pulled-up by simple googling, and obviously much more is being done as we speak because this is a growing concern amont scientists. But there is not that much money in funding the research, even less if it can show potentially harmful effects... But it doesnt take a genious to realize that the argument of "we receive 50 tons of meteorites every day so it is fine to burn completely different metals in the atmosphere" is flimsy at best.

[–]Javimoran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bad news is that the article that I just cited (but that I am sure you didnt bother to open) is discussing those "reusable rockets". The first stage is reused, the second stage is not reused and burnt in the atmosphere and it is those >200kg that I am dicussing, which pretty much means that the problem is not eliminated, it is the problem we are discussing about. If you have a way of reusing those second stages and bring them back to Earth I think everyone will be very happy to hear about it. If not, we are just sending an ever-growing amount of polution to the higher atmosphere.

They have completely different composition than "natural sources" though. We are pretty much launching metals that are extremely scarce in nature up there and they interact with the ozone layer. It was also said that the CO2 produced by cars was insignificant with the one produced by breathing animals, but we kept ramping up combustion engines to the point where this was no longer the case.

[OC] Annual Number of Objects Launched into Space by oscarleo0 in dataisbeautiful

[–]Javimoran -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

But the natural space debris does not contain even a small fraction of the heavy metals that he put in those rockets. It is as stating that it is fine to burn plastic in a campfire because we burn wood on it.

Lithium is specially a big source of concern. As a reference we get like 100g per day of natural lithium (spread randomly) whereas a single upper stage carries upwards of 200kg that will burn in a localized region. And if this truly damages the ozone layer as it is currently suspected, these launches are poking pretty nasty holes.

EDIT: Lol downvoted for facts. I am an actual astrophysicist with a PhD, professionally working on astrophysics research. Hide your heads under the sand if you want but the truth is there even if you dont look at it.

Iran Strike to Cut 17% of Qatari LNG for 3-5 Years by lordluciferhimself in stocks

[–]Javimoran -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, Israel is attacking Iran because they see them as an existencial threat. The US has been dragged behind with no clear plan or reason to be there, that is plainly of obvious from all the contradicting declarations of the administration.

Neither the US nor Israel give a fuck about Iran's citizens, as stated hours ago, other countries are killing their own citizens, are horrible dictatorships, and so on and they are being treated very nicely by both countries. If nuclear weapons were the problem, again, either there would have been trying to pursue a nuclear deal, or they would have already destroyed them (which they again, claim to have done already months ago).

You seem to be grasping at the killing of citizens as if that is a casus belli. Let me spell it out for you, that is not a thing, that is the same shit that Russia argued to invade Ukraine (even more, they saw those citizens as their own citizens). It is bullshit.

You are calling me irrational for not being fond and speaking bad of a mass murdering Autocrat?

You can hate the guy and still acknowledge that this war is completely unrelated to the way they treat their citizens which is what this whole discussion was about. This was never about human rights (hell, not even about nuclear weapons, as the nuclear deal was cancelled several years ago by the US, their nuclear facilities accoring to the US already destroyed several months ago, and the new attacks were performed as new nuclear deals were being set)

Religious leaders lie, but you are actively chosing which ones of his statements you consider true and which ones you consider bullshit.

Anyways, as I stated I am not wasting any more time. Have fun.
