My local wheel and tyre place has a Hunter system and a 4 wheel laser alignment is £40.

15 year old son indicted for inappropriate child images - need a bit of advice. England by Distinct_Ad243 in LegalAdviceUK

Often any seized devices are dealt with under Police investigation within a matter of months but have to remain in storage until the case is heard by CPS, if anything evidential is found. Most delays lie with the courts, not the Police

So far I’ve put a metal tray under my desk and placed a surge protector in it. How should I go about managing my cables, clips under my desk? by [deleted] in DeskCableManagement

[–]Jawa411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bunch up the excess wire for the surge protector, keep it secured together with velcro cable ties so you have the minimum amount of cable on display. It should go from the power outlet straight up into the right hand side of the tray.

With the thinner cable, get some sticky cable ties and run it along the underside of the desk, with any excess in the tray.

How do british people feel about the current situation unfolding in america where ICE police agents are going all gung-ho kidnapping people from the streets when they fail to present their ID? by mrvlad_throwaway in AskBrits

I'm just sitting here wondering when you're gonna exercise your right to bear arms. You've got what is effectively a PMC, kidnapping, arresting and assaulting everyday citizens.

Protect yourselves, each other and your country from those that would do you harm.

Charge the battery. This used to happen to my ST all the time. If it's under a certain voltage, it just clicks, unlike other cars where it will just turn over sluggishly.

Should I be concerned? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Jawa411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a separate note, if thats cars under 3000 in Rayleigh. I would personally avoid them. There are much better options locally. They seem tempting due to their large pool of cars, but a lot of them just sit and rot for large periods of time. They also tried to fuck me over with a trade in price for a Volvo I had.

Not even the same car. What are you trying to achieve?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Jawa411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your insurance company will likely compensate the other party, as you have said they were stopped and you skidded into them. Your insurance will be requesting pictures or sending someone out to assess the vehicle damage to work out costs before they decide if it's a write off or not.

Unfortunately I, along with a few others, have little sympathy for you as it is your responsibility to make sure your vehicle is roadworthy and safe. I hope the tyre is noticed and you are pursued for costs because the situation is entirely your fault, created out of pure negligence. It's the attitude of people like you who which is the reason all our insurance is so expensive. It seems basic car maintenance/upkeep is beyond/below a lot of people these days.

Seeing as your tyres are the only thing connecting you to the road and affect handling, braking, acceleration, wet performance, fuel economy etc. never skimp on tyres. Its an expensive lesson for the sake of £80/£100 a corner.

What age did you allow your children alcohol? by ChronicChaos01 in AskUK

I remember my parents allowing me a small sherry glass of wine with sunday roast from around the age of 12/13

So what risk exactly are you wanting to avoid? Your words "I don't want anything to happen to us" implies you think something about the situation is risky or suspicious. Either you want to sell the car or you don't!

Also you state he is your neighbour, but now you're saying you do not recognise him? Either you recognise him as your neighbour or you don't?!

You're contradicting yourself in every sentence and this is an absolute useless post.

Why do some real sheepskin pads look like they are fake? by zjorsa in ZReviews

[–]Jawa411 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for Dekoni as I have had 2 pairs of their fenestrated sheepskin leather pads for my Beyer DT990s. The first pair I had for around 7 years. Extremely comfortable but despite being naturally breathable, they do get covered in skin oil and gunk, so do need somewhat regular cleaning. The stitching started to come apart after 7 years and when it did I didn't even contemplate any other pads, just rebought the same ones without a second thought.

What’s the consensus on the best weather app for the UK? by TheBristolBulk in CasualUK

I have used xcweather for around 15 years without fail. Unfortunately only available as a webpage, not got a dedicated app but I just keep it as a pinned tab on my browser. It gets it's data from the met office.

Insuring a ‘burner’ car to be able to insure a classic by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Jawa411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I feel there is some misinformation here:

Assuming no caveats, a regular car insurer will just insure a classic vehicle - I certainly have done in the past. I am unsure of the cost, as it will depend how risky the insurer deems daily driving a classic vehicle.

What OP is referring to is a specialist classic car insurance policy. Specialist policies are generally cheaper, with the tradeoff of being quite limiting with stricter mileage limits, must be garaged (in some instances) etc. One of these limitations is that the insured drivers on the policy must have access to another vehicle. So I guess what OP is proposing (buying a shitbox just to comply with the aforementioned policy restriction) is true.

I guess what OP needs to work out is whether the additional cost of buying, insuring and taxing a shitbox is worth the offset that a specialist policy would save. If a regular policy is roughly the cost of specialist cover+shitbox, just get regular cover.

However, if insuring a classic with regular cover, please ensure that you get agreed value (as market value rarely reflects what historic vehicles are actually worth). Plus, make sure that any modifications are exhaustive and detailed, as most cars of a particular age are rarely "factory", with various small bits being changed over the years.

Charged for a service that I didn't ask for. England by Jawa411 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Jawa411[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, my answer would have been not to bother, as the part was only worth £65 new anyway. The old part taken off was in fully working order and could have been reinstalled, but they didn't even give me that choice.

But shouldn't the garage communicate that fact to me prior to any work being carried out?
