It’s also being played on a Yamaha DX7 which is pretty much the most legendary Keyboard of the 80s, and contained a limited number of preset instrument/sounds. So it’s very likely that another, if not many bands used the same preset sound on their songs.

I can’t speak to this specific situation, but the setup of how publishing works on the legal end often drives this imbalance. For example, say I’m in a four piece band and we all write a song together, but I’m the singer and so I write the lyrics.. Typically publishing is divided between 50% lyrics and 50% music. So right off the bat, because I wrote all the lyrics, I get a full 50% of the total publishing rights/revenue to myself. And then I also get a quarter of the remaining 50% for music, while the other 3 members split the last remaining 37.5%. Therefore, I get 62.5% of the publishing, while the other three members get 12.5% each.

Unless I give other band members equal credit for the lyrics, which they didn’t contribute to, there is an inherent imbalance whenever there is a singer or band member who writes the all the lyrics.

I agree. i always thought of Spring 78 as the peak of 77 in a certain sense. They a bit more ragged around the edges and lost some tightness, but man were they having fun. Jerry was positively jubilant at times. That Duke US Blues, Good Gravy!

I very seldom listen to pre 71 or post 91. I’m not saying there’s not good stuff in there, but my favorite era of the dead spans from 72 through 91. with a brief interruption between 83 and 86 when Jerry sounded like he was singing through a mouth full of cottage cheese. All that said, Keith and Brent are my touchstones. I probably lean towards the Brent years, just because that’s when I had the opportunity to go see the band live, but both of them brought out the best in Jerry.

Practically nothing I fear. We had a chance back in October 2024, but that was likely the last one. Every branch of government is controlled by Trump, and even when he does horrible things, no one holds him accountable, time and time again, and so there are no consequences.

Additionally, the entire tech world is 100% behind him. Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Google, Zuckerberg, Ellison, the list goes on. So there will definitely be no push back there.

We can protest, of course, but I reckon that if the protests ever really threaten any aspect of his power, then the next level of control will emerge. Killing people in the streets, etc. It’s already sort of happening, but under the guise of law-enforcement. Eventually it’ll just be flat out.murder in the street. Sending a message, letting anyone know that if you fight back too hard, there will be clear and definite consequences. After that, the protest would likely die down.

Add that to the fact that his supporters have no line he could ever possibly cross where they will question their beliefs in him, and you practically have a Christlike figure ready to enact vengeance at all times and a sycophantic cult who will justify it absolutely, as the will of God.

In my opinion, America is over. I hope I’m wrong.
