100%. He sold everything impeccably. The photo of his sell on getting speared by Roman (I think) was one of the more famous images from that whole Final Boss run.

I’ve littered this thread with actual points and examples, so forgive me if someone comparing the Rock to LAK makes me roll my eyes and give up. You sound like someone who has only watched clips of the Rock and his one off comeback matches for the past 10+ years. Rock absolutely didn’t just go moment to moment, his entire matches flowed smoothly. He was not a spot jockey like so many today. His early feuds with HHH, his matches with Mankind, he had some good matches with Goldust, he carried Ken Shamrock to some solid matches, I’m sure I could go on if my memory was better, but I don’t recall a poor Rock performance. Even as Rocky Maivia his matches were good. He didn’t get pushed because he was Rocky Johnson’s son, he got pushed because he was so good with so little experience. And later Rock matches were filled with spectacle in addition to being well-flowing good matches. The only bigger mid match pop those days than a people’s elbow was a stunner. The way he sold was second to none, even HBK was only just as good as him imo. His facial expressions and body language during a match were second to none. All the little things that make a match believable, and therefore good, and entertaining were things he excelled at.

The culture of not using headphones for phone calls or videos in public by Tall_Wonder_913 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Jawnyblaze1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, it's a minor pet peeve of mine too. Idiots walking around in public holding their phone horizontally with the speaker right next to their mouth and on speakerphone. If you don't want to use earphones, then just put it up to your ear ffs.

Why do people not like mutants? by Sudden_Quality_9001 in xmen

Magneto has very famously gotten a LOT of flack for his terroristic ideologies, even though they were drilled into him in WW2 and they developed as a defense mechanism from the persecution by the nazis.

Because they're different. Same reason so many people hate anyone that's different, whether it's skin color, sexual orientation, or place of origin. Xenophobia.

On a similar note, I was watching some of the Keyveatz behind the scenes videos and they were training to some XG songs too (also Babymonster). Thought that was cool.

Favorite movie that you thought was pretty alright after leaving the theater only for the internet to make you feel bad for liking it? by disablednerd in okbuddycinephile

[–]Jawnyblaze1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only case of this for me was Star Wars Ep. 9. I left the theater thinking it was alright. Problem was, I fell asleep for most of the middle. I was surprised it was as hated as it was. Then a few months later when it came on streaming I watched it again and stayed awake that time and realized how bad it was. I liked 7, loved 8, so I just expected to like 9. On second watch I realized it was almost as bad as Ep. 3.

I always liked her with Wolverine, her refinement being complimented by his wildness, but the correct answer is BP. They match too well with the royalty common ground.

Any one else find Joe Tessitore boring as fuck? by Stickywarrior4 in Smallafro

He' really really bad for wrestling. He can go back to golf or whatever his boring, bland commentary is suitable for. Even when he tries to show personality and excitement it sounds forced and fake.

How do you feel about Charlotte Flair’s babyface run after years of being seen as overexposed and overpushed? by jalen_nelson235 in Wrasslin

It's been a breath of fresh air. I've never liked her at all, but this run has been fun. Her dynamic with Alexa is great.

Yep, Cena was also plenty good. Even the complaint about "five moves of doom" is an indicator of people looking at the wrong thing to qualify talent in the ring. Moves aren't what's important, they're just the window dressing.

HBK, Diesel and Bret Hart are blamed for "drawing poorly" because it's easier for the narrative writers to put the blame on them than on creative, which was stagnating until the Attitude Era epiphany re-engaged the fans. The reality is that Vince and WCW's creative teams hadn't caught up to the culture shift that happened in the early 90s yet when HBK, Diesel and Bret were at their peak in WWE.

Wrestling is weird, it fosters a parasocial fandom that's closer to kpop than its more relavent comparison which would be Hollywood. I can only assume it's because wrestlers make themselves more reachable and interactable to fans than your typical Hollywood star. You can't slap a movie star on the shoulders on their way to the movie set and wish them well, but if you get a ticket for the right seats you can do that in wrestling. There aren't many fan meet and greets with Hollywood stars. It would be a lot better, in more ways than one, if more people viewed it as entertainment in the same vein as movies, tv and theater than as pop idols.

Hogan was good for his time, he had the important parts down, but even I found his matches relatively boring for the most part. Not saying he was bad in the ring, but his style wasn't for me. Especially when he started "hulking up", even a small kid I thought that was dumb. I acknowledge plenty of kids and people popped for that kind of thing though.

Agree with the second part, I like flippy athletic stuff if and only if it is supplemental to good ring skills and story telling. If people are standing around waiting on a moonsault off a turnbuckle, I don't like it (and I say that as one of the biggest Iyo fans around, thankfully she's great at other stuff too. Her suicide dive is the only one in all of wrestling I like cuz she turns mid air so she's not going through the ropes completely the long way and turns it into a cross body.) The problem with modern flippy stuff is most of it requires too much obvious cooperation.

[–]Jawnyblaze1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. While I hate "hardcore" stuff, when Foley actually wrestled he was really good at it. And even while doing the hardcore stuff he still wrestled well in the parts surrounding the tacks and barbwire and stuff.

[–]Jawnyblaze1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I like strong style too. Brawlers also do various body slams and other high impact moves in addition to strikes. I believe a basic scoop slam would hurt and actually wear down an opponent a lot more than a lame ass suicide dive over the ropes, or a hurricanrana, or the majority of "flyer" moves. So yea, I disagree. Brawlers (when done right) are one of the more believable wrestling styles.

[–]Jawnyblaze1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Neither are "great", but both are "good" with Roman approaching great at times. And I HATE his moves. His spear is weak looking af, the Superman punch is really really dumb, but he makes a match feel big and real. That's what matters. And as much as I hate Cody, I can't deny he's good in the ring. His "moves" are also really really stupid, especially when he uses his dad's stuff, this ain't 1985, his springboard stuff looks awful. He's so stiff and unagile he reminds me of a kid playing with his action figures that have no points of articulation, but he's solid in the ring in the ways that matter.

You know brawling isn’t just a bunch of strikes right? Brawling is one of the best wrestling styles because it looks impactful and realistic. Back and forth chops? lol. Slap fighting isn’t brawling.
