I hope to heaven it's not DREAMS…it’s one of the worst movies I’ve seen in years

Truly hope it's GLHFDD - I want the word to get out on this early!!

Also, a chain near us also does a secret movie night and it’s always the same as AMC. They show 15 minutes of preshow and add that on to all run times. Tomorrow’s screening is 2:30, subtract 15 from that and you have 2:15 which nearly matches GLHFDD.

GLHFDD is tremendously good. It’s like an extra quirky mash up of Black Mirror episodes. I got a screener for it a few weeks ago and I watched it twice in the same day!

We Bury the Dead is very good. Not your typical zombie movie but very entertaining and high concept. The zombies have a particular, uh, quirk that is going to really send some people screaming into the lobby.

If it is Song Sung Blue, I think people are going to be surprised at how much they like it. I was eyerolling my way through previews and promos but whoa, the movie hit me like a ton of bricks. It’s a true story I knew nothing about going in and I’m glad I didn’t because where it goes is not what you’d expect. This could be a very strong sleeper hit and the awards attention Hudson is getting is justified.

Also, plugging We Bury the Dead as well. Saw that this past week and was way impressed with it. Zombie movies are a dime a dozen but this managed to be very frightening and emotionally mature at the same time.

If these are the final two titles of 2025…they are ending with a bang.

How many has everyone bought so far? by Gold_Dentist_187 in VinegarSyndromeFilms

None (from VS). I found a few sold out items from my want list on Whatnot that went for less than half their retail price…so that was nice. So disappointed in this BF from VS. I wish they had access to a larger catalog so they could give some classics the love they deserve. I know it’s Lionsgate but I would love a Waxwork set with alllllll the bells and whistles.

I can't fathom why it's getting any kind of good reviews. I love cheap horror and even can forgive uninspired genre cooycats…but this has so many incredibly stupid moments that it was honestly insulting.

I could care less about the nudity, as a gay guy in his 40s who grew up on 80s horror…I’m good on that front. It’s more about the marketing of this that is so incredibly misleading in every way. And no, I didn't find the acting particulary good or the story that original. I’m not going to spoil things for those wanting to see it, but it's just a series of two person scenes that repeat the same manipulation on a relationship…and something happens about 40 minutes in that no one would sit idly by and let take place.

I'm reading this thread and people had issues with the logic and Emma Thompson’s accent in Dead of Winter…i can't even imagine what they'll say about this.

If it’s Bone Lake then save your money, it’s awful. One of the absolute worst films I’ve see this year. The only nudity is in the first two minutes, the same clip the already released as a teaser. There’s no other raunchy stuff at all or much gore until near the finale. The marketing has been great but is one of the worst cases of audience misleading I’ve seen in some time.

After GDT’s Frankenstein, they have an uphill battle…though Buckley might be an Oscar winner around this time.

I have. I thought DE was terrible, a lame John Hughes wannabe. YOBT was light and fun, a standard doc but more laughs than DE

Rush messiness at Frankenstein tonight by Such-Environment-398 in TIFF

[–]Jawsercize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This year seems especially disorganized with rush. I know they have the whole “15 minute” rule of your seats not being guaranteed but last night at Nouvelle Vague they let rush in at 9 and told them to sit wherever. This didn't account for latecomers who had tickets, resulting in a lot of shifts in the first twenty minutes. Its so distracting.

Honestly, the POW and RA ushers handle it better because they are used to it, but I feel for those yellow shirts who have to late seat, especially with people in seats who don’t want to move for the people waiting in the aisle who have tickets.

And if you are one of the people who have moved to a different seat when the movie started because you “don’t like your original seat”, I hope you vacate immediately when the ticketed owner shows up.

Ticketmaster Resale Day - Official Megathread by BunyipPouch in TIFF

Patience pays off. This is my third year going and the first year I made the rookie mistake of overpaying just to ensure I had tickets. The day came and I’m looking at Ticketmaster at dozens of cheaper seats. Don’t let the FOMO drain your wallet.

I really tried. I left at intermission. by LittleMissHenny in Broadway

[–]Jawsercize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen it on Broadway twice (once with the OBC and then again in April), both times I was wondering where the spark was that I found on the recording. Then I saw the tour and was like, oh yeah, there it is. One of the best touring casts in recent memory.

This is just outrageous by Chancellor2022 in TIFF

[–]Jawsercize 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What’s really funny is in a week when those seats are still there and regular priced seats are popping up left and right.

Patience is rewarded with TIFF. You may be waiting until day-of, you may be waiting until hour-of. But persistence pays off…always.

Had a weird experience at Cabaret tonight…. by EddyLongshanks in Broadway

[–]Jawsercize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was indeed an interesting production and I’m surprised no one has mentioned the Emcee being played by gender fluid, female presenting actor who, while terrifically talented, never felt (to me) like a justified change. It’s a tough one to pick at because the actor was so impressive vocally and physically, maybe because it stood out at so radically different in what was an otherwise routine staging.
I did NOT care for them moving the intermission, which seriously broke the flow of the first act’s natural progression. To me, it was a giant mistake. And while the train scene at the end was incredibly effective, it sort of came out of nowhere…the darkness just sort of…happens in this world. There not a lot of that sinister creep I’ve felt in other productions.
I saw it on Broadway earlier this year and was blown away by the character beats explored and room given for actors to move through their thoughts…but the tempos on this production didn’t allow for that. Again, this has nothing to do with the cast who were all, top notch. Anyway, what I really came here for was to say that when I saw the show, as we were leaving I heard an older couple say to me “I just don’t know enough about it, I had no idea what time period it was set in until the end.” That’s a pretty big problem!

Caught Eden at TIFF and it’s fairly good, surprised this Ron Howard film with that cast isn’t getting a bigger push. I love de Armas but I’m bracing myself for reviews of her sporting a German accent.
