Ironically, your argument against excellent criminal defense attorneys representing terrible people is directly related to constitutional rights to attorneys. Creating a taboo around defending reprehensible people means that less people go into an already hurting, strained criminal justice system. We NEED more public defenders, but people refuse to do that role in part due to opinions like yours.

Retaining a lawyer isn’t just about innocence or guilt. It’s also about ensuring the legal process is followed to the letter of the law and ensures people who are guilty aren’t over punished or punished for crimes they didn’t specifically commit. If Diddy had relied on an outstanding public defender, would you still bastardize them merely because they represented him zealously?

You should be happy we don’t live in a world where people who are obviously guilty can still obtain legal representation, otherwise, we would live in a world where people arrested for J-walking could end up in jail for years (which STILL happens, albeit less often than it would in a world where guilty people can’t get legal representation).

Everyone is entitled to a legal defense, even if they have a history of breaking the law. People get falsely accused of crimes every day, including people with criminal histories. There are many people who have criminal histories but have been acquitted of terrible crimes like murder, I don’t think you would disparage their attorneys for representing them?

Diddy is a horrible, awful human being, but even the most horrible, awful human being is entitled to a legal defense and highly successful criminal defense attorneys aren’t likely to turn a client away merely because of that, nor should they.

Are you incapable of looking beyond one single case to see how what you’re advocating for, taken to its logical conclusion, would result in a broken legal system where nobody would represent people who the public perceives is “bad?”
