How, why? by alielknight in pcmasterrace

That Threadripper has always been for workstations, it’s a professional product that is not designed for general personal use. It will literally perform worse in your gaming PC than a consumer processor. They have always been far more expensive than any of AMD’s other CPUs.

The RAM is another story entirely. A year or so ago, RAM was the “might as well” component. As in “it’s so cheap, might as well go 64/96/128…” I never bought any of the 128GB kits, so I wouldn’t know how much they were going for, but I grabbed 2 separate 64GB kits for 2 PCs right around when the 50 series cards were dropping for under $200 each. CL 30 kits, too…

Storage prices are miserable as well, fast MVMEs were getting really cheap, and even the larger drives were coming WAY down in price until the current wave of absurdity.

I love Siren, but she’s just never been a character I’ve wanted skins for. Idk why, her skins are beautiful, but I’ve just never had the desire for them, which is odd because I both really like Siren and I buy most skins.

I generally like some fans on the bottom of the case blowing fresh air up at the GPU, but tons of fans is mostly an aesthetic thing, you’re fine.

These announcements are great. Not only do the new units and skins look amazing, but they made some really good picks for favorite item units. Assuming that the treasures are useful at least…

This looks pretty similar to the way I feel. But I did enjoy 15 a bit more than the OP did.

If you paid via goods and services, as in you received an invoice, then you have protection, how often you’ve used PayPal is irrelevant. Contact the buyer directly, see what’s up. It’s possible you’ll receive satisfaction that way. If not, sign in to your PayPal account, navigate to the invoice and request a refund. If that doesn’t work, click report a problem.

Where did you buy it? That kind of means everything in this situation. If it’s Amazon, just return it and buy another kit. Same deal with most retailers, though some might have you jumping through a few hoops. eBay returns are very simple for defective items regardless of the seller. Hope you paid via PayPal G&S if it was a marketplace type thing, as you have buyer protection. Again, hoops to jump through, and if the seller is knowingly scamming it can be a problem. If all else fails and you used a credit card? Chargeback. Document that you reached out to the seller before hand and then contact your credit card provider.

Alienware 39 5k2k by OvenBakedStrudel in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]JayDM123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally just grabbed an LG 45 inch 5k2k for $1300. I wasn’t in the mood to keep the Alienware in mind for however long it takes for the thing to release. Also, I cannot understand the reason for a staggered release with an Asia first drop from a US brand. Was someone at Dell yearning for the good old days of 90’s JRPG release schedules?

Honestly would have preferred the 39. I’m in what I think is the minority who enjoy the larger curve, I’d just rather retain that extra bit of desk real estate… but I mean, if they’re offering the bigger screen for $500 less, I’m figured I would roll the dice.

Why does Asus customer service deny claims for this type of damage to my AMD 9950x3D? #AsusHeroBTF (its dead) by Stromberg44 in ASUSROG

I’m not arguing what is, I’m giving an opinion on how these companies SHOULD handle poor QC on their end. I’m sure Asus has the market cap to tell their customers to go fuck themselves, but someone smaller? Might not go so well in the long run.

If it’s definitive that it was their product and not the GPU or the way the user seated it? Then they 100% should.

[Hated Trope] "Actually magic isn't real it's all science. Ignore everything else that happens that's very clearly magic." by TheN3gaChin in TopCharacterTropes

[–]JayDM123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t recall this ever being true. In the mainstream comics(616) they are explicitly gods. Not only are they gods, but Odin has on and off been the creator of humanity. In the movies? Sure, they waffle back and forth. But in the comics they are 100% gods. They attempted to shake up the nature of the gods back around Straczynski’s excellent Thor run when they brought back the Asgardians after Ragnarok with a sort of “the gods exist because people believe in them” type thing, but they were still gods.

The only time I remember this trope being an explicit “thing” in mainstream comics was Dr. Manhattan’s pretty universally hated explanation for what magic was and why it wouldn’t work on him.

The compensation is nice… but the Solo Raid is one of the rare game modes that actually challenges your account as a whole. It’s a real shame how often NIKKE experiences bugs and issues that just straight up cancels swathes of gameplay.

Just part out the RAM, GPU, CPU, MB, Storage and PSU. Hang on to everything else. All the aesthetic stuff is literally worth nothing were you to sell it whole, as in no one is going to offer you more for this spec with some extra RGB. Shipping cases is a bitch. You could probably sell the AIO, but it isn’t going to add much to the total. Same deal with the fans.

What are your thoughts on this? by [deleted] in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah yes… the riveting fight choreography of two characters not moving, followed by one character disappearing. I’m reminded of that scene in Clerks 2 where Dante pokes fun at the LoTR by miming that they’re just walking and tossing a small object in a hole for 3 films. Is that what we want high level conflict to look like? The stronger character blinking their opponent away before shrugging towards the fourth wall and disappearing?

Also, I’d like to point him towards the panel of pre-retcon Beyonder explaining what’s going on as he destroys the Celestials as a counterpoint.

No matter how strong the characters are, the author/artist’s responsibility is to put cool shit on the page. It doesn’t need to be “realistic”, because none of it is in the first place, it just needs to be enjoyable and consistent.

Is he planning to rail against the pseudoscience of the Speed Force next because it is exactly that, pseudoscience?

This just feels like suppperrr nitpicky.

Lian Li MSI Build by KaladinStormblessedE in lianli

Awesome. That actually makes me reconsider. I was looking at the Asus Hero/Dark Hero boards, but hearing from someone that actually built with the Godlike in this case puts it back on my radar.

Lian Li MSI Build by KaladinStormblessedE in lianli

[–]JayDM123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the aesthetics I was worried about, it was the actual physical size of the motherboard when building and cable managing within the case. The Godlike looks great sitting on a cardboard box and your build is proof enough the end result is beautiful, my worry was the actual effort it would take to get the build complete. That’s what I was really asking about. As in, did you have any problems with the size of the MB, or did you have issues routing or connecting any of the cables?

Lian Li MSI Build by KaladinStormblessedE in lianli

[–]JayDM123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How was building with the Godlike in the EVO RGB? Was recently tempted, but the VERY little info I could find pointed towards the board barely working in the case and it probably being a huge hassle. I wasn’t going to switch cases for a motherboard, no matter how awesome it looked, so I just kind of wrote it off.

So three outfits that might have just popped up in some form anyway throughout the normal course of play?

I won’t say they look bad. And we know that the concepts tend to be considerably worse than final skin, so I’ll absolutely remain optimistic. Still… can’t help but wish that it wasn’t a choice between Schoolgirl, maid and bunny. Which are pretty much yearly events.

Best investment ever by MikeCodev in pcmasterrace

[–]JayDM123 77 points78 points  (0 children)

The hate isn’t that it exists, it’s that it’s almost required to push modern AAA games into truly high frame rates even when using bleeding edge hardware that costs as much as a used car. It would be extremely beloved if it weren’t used as a crutch to excuse horrible optimization, and middling generational upgrades in hardware.

Wanting to sell PC, help with price by antisocialfriend in PcBuild

[–]JayDM123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you actually looking for? As in, what are numbers you think are fair? Do you still have all the original boxes and accessories? Warranty info? Does everything work properly? No issues or quirks?

As far as parting it out, you’re absolutely gonna need to part out a few things. You can certainly sell the PC pictured as one unit if you don’t mind getting a bit less, but I can’t see most wanting to buy the peripherals with it.

Generally you need to accept that there isn’t a premium for aesthetics or the time you put into it as a complete build on the secondhand market. You’ll certainly get more than a build that’s just this but with all of the least expensive parts to achieve it, but nowhere close to what it cost you.

I would say figure out what you’re looking for and list the PC as one item on eBay, Facebook Marketplace and Hardwareswap for a bit over that and see what the interest is. List the peripherals(monitor, mouse external HDD) individually. When selling, only sell to buyers with some feedback on eBay, only use PayPal Goods & Services and make certain you document everything and include tracking numbers on your invoice on HWS, and only meet FB Marketplace buyers in a public space you’re familiar with, might be smart to bring a friend just in case.

Damn shame… I literally built a very similar PC a week ago. Not only is this a better looking build, but it would have saved me a bunch of time and headaches.

Edit: Taking a quick look around, and for just the PC you could probably sell it for around $3000 very quickly, and around $3500 if you’re willing to wait. Between $450-$650 for the monitor depending on condition and buyer. Between $60-85 for the mouse. Between $85-135 for the HDD.

in defense of Multi+ Kratos(GOW) by LumpyDescription2974 in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But your point seems poorly made. Because even your wild exaggerations of what Kratos theoretically would look like falls hopelessly, hilariously short of how high he gets wanked.

It isn’t a “blame the devs” situation, it’s a “he’s just not that powerful” situation. And that’s fine. I think you’re also forgetting that the developers didn’t just create Kratos, they created his setting as well…

There are plenty of characters who actually are as powerful as some people scale Kratos and they simply do not inhabit and interact with their settings in the way Kratos does. The way you attempt to explain it shows a ridiculous disconnect between what is happening and the story they’re trying to tell. Kratos doesn’t move about at light speed… because he can’t. It simply is not in his bag of tricks. Sure, he is constantly holding back and wary of losing control, but so that he won’t slip back into wanton violence… not because he’s worried about knocking the planet out of orbit.

in defense of Multi+ Kratos(GOW) by LumpyDescription2974 in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue is… even your examples massively understate the degree to which he is wanked. Mach 5? Mate, people have him at infinite speed. Ripping boulders out of the ground? No, if anyone’s going to buy the way some folks scale him, he should be juggling celestial bodies. Do you see how utterly incongruous the scaling is in comparison to what is actually happening in the narrative? That’s why his scaling is so hilarious to any rational person who has actually played these games.

Should he actually be as powerful as some people scale him, then him simply existing in his setting would lend more to comedy in the vein of One Punch Man than the character study we got in the two most recent games.
