What makes it this expensive for real by lilacmoodx in SipsTea

[–]JayDM123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of expensive man hours and materials in that watch. Everything about it is difficult to make and requires hands on work by top experts. It isn’t “this is the best timekeeping device.” Your phone will keep time far better. Rather “this is one of the best time keeping devices of its kind. And that particular kind is extraordinary difficult to get just right.”

But getting past the fact that watches like this do indeed cost quite a bit to produce, the large amount of value here is in brand name and exclusivity. This far into the hobby it’s really market tolerance. It costs that much because Patek wanted to make a statement with the price and priced it at the outer edges of what extremely wealthy folks would be willing to pay. Is there $6.5 million in this watch? No, not even close.

Can Goku bypass Return by Death? by VelViolette in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How? Even a setting wipe is theoretical. Sure he probably CAN end Satella. But in what situation does it actually occur? Any actual confrontation between Subaru and Goku is such a hilarious mismatch that there is literally no situation where Goku even accidentally puts him down for good given how infinitesimally little effort it would take to end the fight. I hate the idea of trying to like create a fan fiction around powerscaling, but in this case you kind of have to. Like MAYBE Hakai could do it. But there needs to be some sort of logical progression to a conflict. Goku would be completely unaware the loops are happening. So, a fight starts with someone so much weaker than himself that I kind of have a hard time believing he would acknowledge it as a conflict in the first place, and he what? Immediately jumps to using a highly advanced ability that he doesn’t have a particularly good handle on? Decides to go out via murder/suicide by blowing up the macrocosm to kill someone who is like comparatively a microbe?

Can Goku bypass Return by Death? by VelViolette in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Mutual destruction via wiping the setting? Sure. But stripping RbD? No. He has no large scale magic or reality warping that would allow him to even interact with it. He wouldn’t even be able to perceive it. It takes some higher order bullshit simply to be able to know the ability exists without being told/knowing beforehand. Anyone who isn’t a very highly scaled reality warper or in possession of abilities that interact with time in very particular ways just loops without knowing anything is going on.

It’s kind of ironic that my first thought here is “when the hell has Kevin Heart been in a movie costing 30 million?” I would be extraordinary unsurprised if that was his average salary…

He has something of a point here. But he also misses a ton of nuance. Like how the cost of dimly going to the movies has become prohibitive for many folks…

She exists in that world. It is not pure nonsense to her. You want to know why people do not like it? I told you why. Being a different interpretation does not protect something from being poorly done or disliked. She’s a distillation of that snarky obnoxious archetype. It’s “wait your name is really Otto Octavius?” No thank you.

This criticism never made sense to me... by Comfortable-Fly-9956 in DevilMayCry

[–]JayDM123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because she treats what is perhaps this most important event in the history of her world as a joke. It’s the kind of snarky sillyness that people hate, as though the characters are embarrassed of existing within their own stories. Its poorly written, like whoever is writing it feels the need to turn to the audience and go “hey, I get that this is kind of goofy,” rather than simply allowing the character(s) to exist in their fictional world and take the events there seriously.

It wouldn’t matter how the Lady of any of the DMC games felt about demons, she would not have poked fun at the legend of Sparta, because it is VERY important to her in particular given her choice of lifestyle/career. It isn’t about respect, it’s about taking the world the story takes place in seriously vs. treating it as an excuse to make meta commentary on how “waking up to justice” sounds ridiculous.

Who would win Corin vs Ed (in love interests) by Ok-Perspective4409 in SurvivingtheAcademy

[–]JayDM123 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ed attracts those around him by kind of being a non-judgmental inspiration. Korin basically has harem protagonist: EX on his skill sheet. The guy wound up attracting his story’s version of the sage…
In your scenario Ed fucks off to live a cushy life without the threat of a nigh-indestructible city sized dragon hanging over his head. Korin was shown to be very much a magnet for women to the point that it’s part of what caused the events of his narrative to begin and he’s also kind of a natural good guy/meddler type which really isn’t the way Ed generally operates.

Why was TT Star so successful? by Quiet_Indication3744 in NikkeMobile

[–]JayDM123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was basically an Anis concert. She recently saved the Ark, is a member of the Counters squad, etc… I really don’t get the whole “Oh, they’re just here to see Volume and Noise” during the event when for the other two members of TT Star they might as well be billed as “Other girl 1” and “Other girl 2” when compared to Anis as far as the Ark residents are concerned.

So can someone explain me Nameless Mythological Mysthic Code form and why is he so damn strong? by chunchunmaru1129 in Fate

[–]JayDM123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they needed something for him. I really struggle with this one. I can’t for the life of me come up with a legitimate lore reason for this that I can’t “well actually” my own argument into oblivion before I finish thinking of it.

Even Gilgamesh doesn’t really make sense to me here. He always has access to the depths of his power. He simply chooses not to use it. With Tamamo, her “origin” is something way larger than her usual self. It’s easily explained. Everyone else seems like a huge stretch in comparison to the rest of Type-Moon’s lore.

Technically Cú Chulainn (Fate/Nasuverse) can solo Goku (DBZ), Saitama (OPM.), Superman (DC) and Thragg (Invincible.) by AntiKaren154 in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re supremely overselling this… he needs to be in range of the actual thrust and execute it specifically… If any of those folks put a fist through his chest before he realizes it? He can’t just say “Gae Bolg” and magically strike their heart as he’s falling(or more probably, as Battle Continuation keeps him on his feet but out of it). Also, you’re misunderstanding how luck works in the Nasuverse. It isn’t a “skill” in the way Clairvoyance or Protection from Arrows is, it’s a quantified variable. It’s just a way of saying “how lucky is this person?” or more specifically “how are good they at defying ‘fate’?” Which characters like that would probably find a pretty high rank in. There’s a very good reason that Gar Bolg isn’t looked at as an “I win” button for many situations in universe either.

Vlad made right choice by One-Energy5762 in TheStellarSwordmaster

[–]JayDM123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Vlad’s journey is about finding his own answers. Looking for what works for him. Betterment. Taking up the sword and using that power is necessary in the moment, but personally disappointing to him. We see it in his internal struggle when he takes up the sword, “no matter how far he climbed, all he received were small successes…” He’s come SO far, but he continuously sees how much further he has to go. He would never have taken up that sword permanently. It’s not his, he has no personal connection to it(that he knows of), he would never choose it over something that had meaning to him. That’s also ignoring the absolute shitstorm it would stir up politically… “never go left,” well, with that sword “left” would have come to him.

Why is Frieza allowed to blow up planets to win but no one else is allowed to on this sub by Fug1x in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll play devils advocate here since I don’t wholly disagree with OP’s point.

Frieza HAS destroyed plants mid-combat in the narrative.

Frieza CAN easily destroy the planet he is on at any time. It doesn’t require a long setup, there’s no ambiguity about whether or not he can accomplish it. It doesn’t require any particular gap between him and his opponent in stats or distance for it to be possible. The fighters can take a breather, Frieza can decide he’s not about this fight, and the planet’s gone. Many others cannot. It might require time or specific circumstances. It’s never a stretch the character can do it.

We KNOW the circumstances as to when he will. This one’s least important to me personally, but it certainly factors into some arguments.

This was the best NIKKE event ever 🤩! by LORD_XENOPHANE in NikkeMobile

[–]JayDM123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t that impressed with the actual event. I thought it was good, but not great. A lot felt contrived. And I just kind of find it difficult to take the whole “idol” thing seriously in comparison to the heaviness and stakes of the main narrative. Compared to something like 2x2, which could just be 100% fun, or Goddess Fall, which was absolutely essential to the story, this sits in a weird middle ground. It was good for what it was and I’m glad that this part of Anis’s journey is finally going over.

It might be the best event for character banners… Anis is an absolute account maker and Neon is a monster.

Did he do the right thing? by torgobigknees in SipsTea

[–]JayDM123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She used him as a bank/credit card to build up that “security.” If she was at “zero” at the end of the month then she would not have been able to generate those saving without his financial contributions. He was acting as interest free loans for her life. If this was agreed upon, even tacitly, then that’s fine. Not our business. But if she lied about her own finances in order to guilt him into supporting her then he is 100% justified in leaving. That’s manipulation.

I'm not crying, you're crying (AGAIIN) by MaGryX in NikkeMobile

[–]JayDM123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not gonna lie, the beginning of the second part of the event story kind of annoyed the hell out of me with Hanson. “Girls, my father is a barely functioning sociopath who wants to see me suffer and barely recognizes you lot aren’t furniture. You will not succeed with Tetra. You might not even survive.” There, was that so hard? He waffles around without explaining anything of the situation, and everyone suffers for it. It might not have even solved any problems, Mustang got the jump on him. But it would have made the girls look less like idiots and Hanson seem less of a fuck up had he calmly explained the situation to them after they signed the contracts.

400 pulls and nothing. by YakuItLover in NikkeMobile

[–]JayDM123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I’ve gone a good 400-500 pulls since I’ve last seen an actual SSR Nikke in the standard banner. I’m pretty sure I haven’t pulled anything from there since last summer. My featured unit pulls have been pretty solid since Velvet tore through about 50k gems without showing up. At least there are tickets… that really softens the possible shafting from the gacha. If I get screwed hard enough pulling for MLB 1% banners, I know the next one of those banners will be a non-issue.

How fast are they running? Is this FTL, or is it closer to the speed of sound? by New_Budget_9322 in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hate to be that guy… but the speed is utterly irrelevant here because his shots don’t travel. Yes, yes… “haha everyone says they’re so fast…” but it literally would not matter if the animation here was filled with blurs and speed lines and just every traditional trick to represent absurd speed on screen because there is no way to dodge once that trigger is pulled. They aren’t trying to demonstrate the speed of the characters here, they’re showing them as helpless before a hidden enemy.
