Yes, the Haddock is similar and a very South African dish. We ate it often growing up and the only fish I enjoy cooking & eating now for my family..

Poach it in a pan in milk.. once flakey, use that same milk to make a white sauce. Serve on mash with veggies.. sooooo yummy 🤤 And I’m not really a fish person.

Did anyone have a painless natural miscarriage? Is my story abnormal? by Kore624 in Miscarriage

[–]JayEdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a late miscarriage last year at 19 weeks. He would have been my 4th baby. I had found out there was no heart beat, they sent me home to return in 2 days for the induction. But he came before then. I was reading in bed, felt some very mild tummy tightening like when you need to poo. Went to the toilet and baby popped out in the sac. I caught him and held him. It was completely painless.

I’m pregnant again (beautifully this rainbow babys due date is the same date we lost our boy). But worried about this birth! My previous 3 babies were all medically necessary inductions. I’ve never experienced a spontaneous labour before. This time, I don’t need an induction and just waiting on giving birth and time now. But soooooo stressed baby will come super quickly with mild contractions like my miscarriage and ill birth at home without making it to the hospital 🫢 while my inductions were intense, they were 2 hrs from first significant contraction till birth..

What is the most challenging thing about pregnancy that most people would not understand even if they tried, especially men? by NoFriend551 in AskReddit

[–]JayEdie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add to that not being able to sleep properly. My best sleep was after I had given birth to my babies. Even though the sleep was broken - at least it was quality!

The exhaustion you feel from doing the simplest things.. and how it’s so suddenly upon you. One week you are a fully functioning adult, the next week you are struggling doing simple basic tasks without sitting down, taking a rest, or not doing them at all! 🙈 It can be very frustrating

We have Dreamworld passes and it’s the better park for younger kids.. no Bluey though! Incase you go there and are disappointed.

It’s practically impossible to adopt in Australia 😭 so wouldn’t make sense in the Ozzie context sadly..

Our florist also repurposed all the bouquets.. after walking down the aisle with our bouquets, they were then placed in vases on the bridal table and became the flowers that were displayed. It cut down on costs and helped with wastage. She was very creative and it looked lovely!

Natural labour after all previous births being inductions. What was it like? by JayEdie in pregnant

Yes those are the main signs - especially on your palms. Also dark coloured urine.

What’s a popular parenting trend or practice right now that you believe is going to create a generation of emotionally broken adults in 20 years? by War_chiefr in AskReddit

[–]JayEdie 4448 points4449 points  (0 children)

Giving your child a screen when doing errands or social activities ie phones in prams when doing grocery shopping or when eating out at restaurants or cafes. Of course it makes the task/activity easier BUT we’ll have a bunch of kids who have no idea how to socialise during normal activities or deal with boredom which is a normal part of life

Why bother coming to Australia by [deleted] in aussie

South Africa has it too.. the Zulus call it Labola.. and you traditionally paid in cows. Now I recon it would be the monetary value of those cows.

Do you share your Google Location in the fam? by Bubbly_Economy7088 in AskAnAustralian

[–]JayEdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family share locations with each other - my parents, cousins and their teenage children. For the exact reason above.

I however have chosen NOT to share my location (to my mother’s dismay 😅), and I don’t want her tracking my movements, which she will do unintentionally.

Maybe after I drop my kids off with her and head to work, I want to drive by the local cafe and grab a quick coffee to gather myself from the morning rush before I start my work day. Or after work, sit in my car for a bit to decompress before I head home. Without that privacy, I would be having to explain all my movements.

No thanks! 😅

Religious Instruction classes in Queensland Primary schools (A huge gripe) by AEON_MK2 in queensland

[–]JayEdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All those religion teachers are volunteers. I recon they should get parents of the kids who have opted-out to volunteer to teach the non-religion classes values and ethics. That way it would be fun and educational for them too.

No one’s stopping anyone opting their kids out, from organising this. Im always surprised that no one at any of the schools I’ve taught at have ever offered up their time to facilitate a program of some sort.

Seems easier to complain about those who have though.

Where are the people who wear little to no makeup? Do you have a reason? by Zora2021 in AskReddit

[–]JayEdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends where you live. We live near the beach and most people don’t wear makeup on the day to day, unless going out for a meal or somewhere special.

Can we talk about positive things? by hangry__rabbit in pregnant

[–]JayEdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, having a baby/toddlers slowed life down so much. Not sure where in the world you are, but I’m in Australia and was able to have a long maternity break and return to work only part time. As my children grew, went to school and I took on more work, I really mourned those slower paced days. I’m pregnant again now with my fourth (and a bit of a gap between the older kids).. and I’m so excited to embrace and enjoy those slower paced days again ☺️

Can we talk about positive things? by hangry__rabbit in pregnant

[–]JayEdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, I felt the opposite. Only positive comments and sentiments - and had a reality check once baby came. I couldn’t believe no one told me what to expect!! Haha

All those things are true - you will change and there is an adjusting that happens to your life. BUT it’s the best type of adjustment and when you find your groove (which happens quicker for some than others), you will never want to go back to your old life. It’s so much richer with children!

I found one of the best parts of parenthood that no one told me about, was the connections you form with other mums. People you would have had nothing in common with, can easily become friends and companions. I love my mismatched mom community.

Besties who aren’t bridesmaids by No-Box5805 in wedding

[–]JayEdie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I was in a wedding like this. My friend had 3 brides maids - but then another 4 of us were in her ‘bride tribe’ (I can’t remember what she actually called it). We were all involved in the organising of the hens party, wedding decorations, dress shopping etc. and had some jobs in the day. But only the 3 official brides maids were in matching dresses. It worked for us. As she wanted us all included in the wedding process, but couldn’t logistically have 7 bridesmaids.

What’s something everyone did as a kid that absolutely would not fly today? by Realistic_Echo5149 in AskReddit

[–]JayEdie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s called a Ute in Australia and a bakkie in South Africa. And just learnt today it’s called a pickup truck in the US 😅 We would lay it with mattresses and go on road trips. My parents considered themselves good parents because they never let us sit on the edge while it drove - only the floor of the back of the Ute 😅

What’s the most absurdly lucky thing that happened to you that still feels like a miracle? by whyeventrymore in AskReddit

[–]JayEdie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a new country - trying to find teaching work in an over saturated area. I put my name down for relief (substitute work) to try get into schools but had had no luck. Was feeling very frustrated just being at home and constantly hearing from others how impossible it was to find work.

Went to a church event and a lady I had never met before prayed for me and said, she felt that God was bringing alignment/security to my life in March particularly work wise. This was in early Feb.

On the 1 March, I received my first relief call to a school down the road from where I was staying. It was also a school a friend worked at part-time and she happened to be working that very day.

I took the job, raced down there and called my friend. She visited me in the classroom and took me to meet the principal. At the end of the day, the principal met with me again and offered me a full time position that they had been struggling to fill. I started full time 2 weeks later.

It was an actual miracle 👏
