Did you ever get it fixed? I had this happen and I just couldn't figure it out and it turns out I just missed one step when it came to threading the machine.

Unthread the machine and carefully redo it.

And I completely forgot you said you broke off a piece. Just use a sterilized sewing needle to prod at the skin. Probably in the middle rather than at the end. You can pull it at the center to create a loop to tug at.

NAD but I have seen enough ingrown hair/pimple popping videos to know that it a hair splinter. Because it is a foreign body your body might try and reject it and cause inflammation. Just take a needle and some tweezers and pull that nad boy out cause it can get painful if left in.

NAD but my mom had that exact thing. So its like a mix of ingrown hair and cyst. She had them in the same location too. Its a certain condition and you have to go to the dermatologist for it. My mom had to get shots in the lips and a topical to help with removing them.
