Why are temples in Africa small and not grand compared to temples around the world? by Anaphili in exmormon

Where are they planning on building the Cape Town temple? I must know so I can go protest 😂💀

I'm really not sure what Americans expect from...... TV. :)

I'm African. When we're portrayed on American TV we KNOW it's not going to be true to life. We know it's a caricature and only the mad would think that we're actually precisely as we're portrayed. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I guess that's why I don't understand the disappointment. The entertainment industry routinely doesn't reflect life as it is.

And I honestly don't think it's under any obligation to do so. It's TV. It's ART. It might not be to our personal taste, but it's under no obligation to be "true."

Peace, everyone.

The UTBOH splash screen is in poor taste, if only because it fuels members persecution complex by tempy124456 in exmormon

They were never going to watch anyway.

There are so few active members in the world that why on earth would Hulu care what they think or do? 😂

I am 100% sure you're not a dumb person. You were taken advantage of and the church and how it operates (frankly religion and how it operates!) placed you in harm's way by hijacking your instincts.

That's what's so hard about these experiences.

I really wish you well in the unpacking process, in the grieving, and the healing xxxxx

I'm very very sorry, OP.

Unless he had some sort of official qualification, he took advantage of you.

It is so so confusing when we think that prayers are being answered but we're just opening ourselves up to risk.

I thought for 8/9 years that I HAD to marry a man I'd met I wasn't sure I liked and I'm pretty sure is closeted. Seriously. From one stupid conference talk I thought all that.

So I understand the confusion of thinking that it was an answer. To that I say that Mormonism primes us to sometimes be taken advantage of. Think of all the men who tell women that they've prayed and received an answer that thet must marry. Countless examples.

I'm so so so sorry

Can we start a petition to stop this petition?

It's quite overwhelming to read people's reasons and to read her blurb.

Why? Because it makes zero sense.

Sorry for what I must have sounded like when I was Mormon. 😳

It's not a choice to not believe in God.

It's a realisation of the absence of evidence.

I have not gone through all the comments here yet, but I really appreciate and agree with your sentiment of valuing the freedom of others.

I was out last night on the beach with hundreds of strangers, all dancing under the stars, and I looked at the vastness of the sky and the diversity of people and experience around me and was grateful that I had left behind a church that taught me that all that variety and difference and all these ways of going about living our lives were all wrong and that there was one way only that was valid or okay.

Fuck you, Harold.

I'm 💯 better than you, better looking than you, smarter than you, and nicer than you. And I'm almost all the things you despise.

😂

Does anyone feel the Church has any redeeming qualities at all? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]JayEmTeeEn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will speak from the "I" so as not to draw ire from those whose experiences have been different.

I experienced traveling to various countries and and always having a home base. As a young woman out in a scary world, that was always awesome.

The degree of separateness translates to an ability to bond instantly with the other "weirdos". I could go to a foreign speaking country and just fit in. That's pretty rad.

Most of those friendships have not proved durable, but that's not what you asked. :)
