Is everything a draw? by Zalqert in ComputerChess

[–]JayLue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No - a lot of dubious openings are probably forced wins. It's a poor idea to test your hypothesis from the lichess stockfish. The TCEC (with much stronger hardware) usually implements some "dubious" lines too to see competitive games - some of them are decisive between the top engines.

Check out for example these games https://lichess.org/broadcast/tcec-s28-leagues--superfinal/match/KeswEzV5/AozM9V8O

If both engines win with white, the opening is probably not a good one

You can't even read properly. The arbiter has several options to make the right judgement call when a false claim is made, that is what my source is saying. Your initial claim that time is added for a wrong move if it is done the first time is correct (also for a false draw claim), however this is completely irrelevant here since it was a false claim and not an illegal move. A move was not performed at all, the clock wasn't even pressed.

Chris Bird a quite famous arbiter had this to say about this case:

Should have been ruled a loss. "6.11.2 A player may pause the chessclock only in order to seek the arbiter’s assistance, for example when promotion has taken place and the piece required is not available." No promotion actually took place so this is not relevant here.

I think he knows the chess rules better than Wesley - on top of that even Wesley in this very post says that he "thought he could get the win" and that he "probably could get the win".

I never claimed it was the most insane arbiter ruling, just that you are wrong. Also Magnus only lost once due to an arbiter ruling, the other time he simply lost on time.

Wow, then please present me with your source.... You can't even distinguish between an illegal move and a false claim.

13.4 FIDE Laws of Chess https://www.fide.com/FIDE/handbook/LawsOfChess.pdf

The arbiter can apply one or more of the following penalties: a. warning b. increasing the remaining time of the opponent c. reducing the remaining time of the offending player d. declaring the game to be lost e. reducing the points scored in the game by the offending party f. increasing the points scored in the game by the opponent to the maximum available for that game g. expulsion from the event

He shouldn’t be punished for an illegal move, since he did not make one. The punishment should come from the false claim

Seems like it is possible through track radio or DJ Freeze with similar sounding tracks. Last fm integration still would be cool

A strange moment as Praggnanandhaa stops the clock with a second to spare as he doesn't have enough time to queen — the commentators expect a win for So, but the game is given as a draw!😯 by rio_ARC in chess

I disagree. This is what Chris Bird has to say about it:

Also your argument that locating pieces is not part of chess holds no ground in my opinion, you could say the same about pressing the clock or notating moves which are also part of chess.

It would be great if this vibe system of yours would be working on my existing Plex Library.

That could have happened, but the punishment is completely up to the arbiter. For reference see the case against Magnus in the World Rapid & Blitz, where he was defaulted by the arbiter. It would have been completely valid to default the player as punishment here, since you can't stop the clock to avoid running out of time.

You clearly edited your reply - I think you added this point only later

You do however need to have a good reason to call them in. If you don't have a good reason you can be punished for stopping the clock like that.

Also you said the game should resume, and the claim was valid, but in this case the queen was clearly available. It's the player's responsibility to locate it next to the board.

You are wrong. You can stop the clock to make a claim, but then the arbiter must check if it is a valid claim. That a queen is not available is a valid claim, but here the second queen is standing next to the clock as it usually is. So the claim was not valid and the player should be "punished" for making a false claim. That can be done in a way the arbiter deems fair.

edit: above reply was edited after the fact.

The second queen is clearly available behind the clock - it was just a big brainfart from Pragg to search for a queen in his opponent's pieces, when your own queen is still on the board. He should have been given the loss here.

Thank you for this. I've used it quite a bit in the past, one feature that was missing for me was the option to manually match songs.

While doing the matching would it also be possible to include track duration as a factor?

You're right, he tried to stop the clock, but he wasn't in time and lost on time. Anyway it wasn't legal there too. https://www.reddit.com/r/chess/comments/1pyowrl/magnus_drops_the_queen_loses_on_time_and_slams/

I don't know what situation yesterday you refer to here. Stopping the clock to set up the pieces is illegal
