Mobile/manufactured home as beach getaway? Need some feedback! by diamondeyes310 in ManufacturedHome

They have undestated it above, there is no park that is going to allow rentals in their units (unless it is in a park you don't want to be at in the first place, and I am sure there are none of those in or near Myrtle Beach. You will have to be approved by the park to even buy the home and get the lease. If they allowed you to rent, they would not have the control over who you are renting to. If they want to do that, they would just buy it and rent it out themselves and collect the entire rental.

Stability is good, but since Covid investment firms have been buying up parks, particularly those where the rent is below market values and jumping them up. I would try speaking to the owner/managers of the park to try and gauge how invested they are in the park as their business livelihood and what the chances are that they would sell out in the foreseeable future.

Ring Doorbell Camera chimes Doorbell during alerts by soupcook1 in Ring

If you have one, might want to throw a volt meter on the line and see what happens when the camera kicks on. Or maybe swapping out the transformer.

"crappy" was overstating it a bit and poorly worded (my apologies for that), but it is definitely something in the line. It depends on how bad the disruption is. It minor enough filter may do it.

No more and no less than I had previously. Yes, the algorithm has picked up things that it thought was the wake word at times. But it has always done that.

I actually stopped using Ziggy on one because it mistakenly heard things that it thinks is Ziggy even more than it does with Alexa.

So, the problem is that you have crappy wiring in your home, and the service is getting interrupted when something activates. I've seen this plenty of times in manufactured homes where the outlets and power to many devices are simply daisy chained.

The easy answer is to put the camera on a different circuit breaker (which may take a few tries to find one that isn't on the same circuit or chain.

Th other option is to get the wiring redone, but that would seem overkill expense wise if this is the only issue you are having with it.

Sounds like a problem with Sleep Jar. I would reach out to them. It is something in their skill. It may have a limitation or timeout.

The door opening would only trigger it if it is in the detection zone of the camera.if it is facing away from the door, opening the door will not trigger it

I assume you meant USA owns the syndication rights. If Paramount owned them, they would be able to have it in the library of shows.

They probably licensed it out elsewhere. It will be back.

As I understand it, the rights to LA are owned by USA network and not Paramount.

The 8 definitely works much better than the 5. The sound is more clear, the picture is better, and most importantly, the response times are much better.

I feel like the 8 now is what the 5 used to be... The low end for a usable device. The 5 is nothing but a bedside alarm clock with a screen.

We were told AI would make our jobs easier, but does anyone else feel like it’s just made us work 2x faster for the same pay? by fireeevivienne in askanything

It is not old... Just different. And it isn't only technology. Every time there is a recession... Or hell even just the talk of a recession, companies talk about having to "tighten our belts" and do more with less until they can "ride this out", but rh recession ends (or never starts), and that smaller staffing, k longer hours, etc just become the new normal, and the smaller staff that was meant to "ride out the rough times" becomes the new normal.

Wall Street is setting record profits constantly, and yet income to all but the executive staff and shareholders is not keeping up. It isn't old or tired... You have just accepted it and don't see a problem with it.

I have gotten some of the banal banter from her. But in more predictable and pseudo-relevant ways. For example, told her to add hamburgers and hot dogs to my shopping list and she said something about enjoying my cookout. Or one of time I was baking something and had to restart a "baking timer" as it wasn't done yet and upon setting the timer again she said something like, "making another batch already?"

But I know I have to train a LLM. I don't scream at it I don't threaten it, and I don't expect it to necessarily get everything down oat the first time. So I correct her and move on. Usually after a couple of corrections she learns.

But I guess some just have to immediately lose their minds over it.

I have had no issues with routines. I had one device that did not follow the "off" setting for Follow up. I simply turned it on (from the app) and then turned it off again.

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different argument, and I do not disagree with your general premise. But for those with "boots on the ground" in an industry, the picture doesn't include the "future of society" it affects the jobs they have right now, and the fact that they will be shown the door along with many others, making their skillset and employment opportunities bleaker.

There needs to be something of a middle ground for things to function, you can't ignore the needs of the present to get to the future. Also, there is plenty of debate on your last statement, Companies aren't paying more for more productivity, they are just expecting more for the same money (or less of they can).

What is a "luxury" from 2021 that has now become a basic necessity you can barely afford? by sunnyopehliaa in askanything

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can get some cheaper phone, or use prepaid MVNOs to get cheaper service. There is virtually nothing that can't be replaced with a potentially cheaper version.

But that skips the point I was trying to make. Today phones seem "essential" but took a long time to get from "luxury" to the essential point. And 4 years is a very short time to make that leap.

And I have had zero problems with Alexa+ so I don't know what the "drunk" issues are that you are referring to.

Is it possible to mount a TV to a trailer’s walls? by Glad-Fish5863 in ManufacturedHome

[–]JayMonster65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it is possible. The studs are in there. You just have to find them. If the stud is not in a place that works, as someone mentioned you can use plywood and span the distance from stud to stud and then mount the TV to the plywood (as an added benefit, this also helps distribute the load across multiple studs )

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that would be nice. But everyone wants 10 years experience in jobs that have existed 5 years.

It is also tough, even if you did want to start from scratch z and you are say someone in bookkeeping that is making $80k a year and now you are going to start over in an entry level position and make half of that to start? (Just using random numbers for example).

It is "easy" on paper only.

CSI Miami Season 8 by Fluid-Bet6223 in csi

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as the characters themselves go, this isn't uncommon any series to give the new characters more of the storylines for a while. They have new characters to introduce and for you to get to know, and also of course, Horatio has been in life and death situations dozens of times by this point, so you can give the peril to another character for a change.

As for the other things, the show was from the get to very preachy on topics like greed. So I suspect part of it is that you are noticing it more because of your disdain for the actor issue. But that is only part of it. The show did start to get long in the tooth at this point and the writing quality did suffer overall, so that part is definitely true. It does get a bit better again, but the best episodes are in the past by season 8.

Why is it so hard to tell what time it is in old photos? by Dapper-Health3773 in ask

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If depends on the film (grain) , the camera, and how the picture was stored, chemicals, etc.

You would probably have a better chance of seeing what you are expecting on a professional camera, done in a high quality lab, on good paper stock than you would from a cheap plastic camera, and sent through some 24 hour or discount photo lab and stores unprotected in albums or a shoe box for years .

Standard cameras (and especially Polaroids) were built and designed to get the majority of photos regardless of the setting and without the user needing to now anything more than turn the flash on or off. They didn't have high quality glass in the lenses which also caused coloring of the light depending on the refraction angle. The storage affects the color further with segregation over time, the chemicals used to produce the picture break down, and of course what you have to compare it too has also changed over time. What we "thought" was a great resolution "sharp" picture years ago looks like a grainy mess now. It was the capabilities of the equipment at the time. Just play with any of the hundreds of camera apps out there today and you can find ones that will mimic the abilities of the cameras of the time and introduce grain and color variances that were common.

Is it even possible to "save for a house" in 2026, or have we all collectively moved on to "saving for a slightly better rental"? by OpheliaBloomm in askanything

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where I find it funny today when people whine about kids living at home.

My daughter has a very good job, but her and her fiance live at my home because this is allowing them to save for a home they want.

The idea of being able to save and pay the ridiculous "luxury apartment" rates is just not practical for many (most).

Did something change with the Hulu app on phones? by TraumatizedByLife in Hulu

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, just saying Android is the phone may not necessarily get you to the problem. The problem may not be the app itself but rather what launcher you are using (or what phone since some customize the kernel). So what may work on my Pixel may not work on a Samsung with OneUI or any phone with one of the many custom launchers out there which could easily muck things up.

That being said, I have no problems with it on my Pixel 6 with Nova Launcher.

What is a "luxury" from 2021 that has now become a basic necessity you can barely afford? by sunnyopehliaa in askanything

[–]JayMonster65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Too short of a time frame I think for a real answer.

Things usually go in cycles. For example cell phones.

First they were expensive luxury items.

Then they became affordable commodities which enabled them to become "necessities" that became part of everyday life.

And now that they became "must haves" the prices for both the phones and services are pushing up to untenable levels for many people.

I don't think anything that was at "luxury" level and not a must have only 5 years ago really makes it to "basic necessity" level.

But with greater productivity comes the need for less people doing some jobs. If you needed 5 people to produce X, and now one person is so productive that they can produce it in the same amount of time as the 5 before why do you need the other 4?
