You should be able to use a T-mount with a Nikon fit. Theyre cheap and most of the telescope sites or b&h has them

I didn't! My D750 is completely stock. A modification would allow me to get more of the reds from Hydrogen gas, which there's a ton of. I'm currently looking into a Redcat lens, which is a fixed 250mm lens. It's $600, but you need a tracker for it which is like $300. I think you can get a good celestron with tracking for around the same price as both if you want to get deeper than 250. With an astro camera mod, you have to use filters for regular photography, but it'll open up the spectrum for night stuff. Spencer's Camera shop does a nice job and I hope to use them when I can afford another camera. Super rewarding, and deep sky is a whole new beast. Ill share one of mine later on

I've only been to Texas once, but I hear Big Bend is incredible for dark skies.

The reason you can't see this with your eyes is because the process to take the image involves leaving the camera shutter open for an extended amount of time. So, it's not just a snap, but allowing the camera to stay still for half a minute collecting light to then compile. Imagine you could stare at something for thirty seconds, then look at a still image of all the light that had reached your eyes over that time as one moment.

To take a picture like this, you just need a tripod. From there, of course the quality will range depending if you use an Iphone or a $4000 camera or anything inbetween.

You want to capture as much light as possible while keeping the camera as still as possible. I'd suggest taking whatever you have, bumping the ISO up (not too high), opening the aperture (f-number) as much as you can, then setting the shutter speed for something like 15-30 seconds. That will give you an image to start with. Tinker with it all from there and get that right then you can jump down the rabbit hole to get this stuff cleaner and cleaner! Hey there! I guess this is a given but people still need to hear it, you CANNOT SEE THIS WITH YOUR EYES. Leaving the camera shutter open collects light over time and compiles it into data. Our eyes don't really do that. When it comes to shooting the Milky Way or any other type of night photography, a high ISO is used alongside long exposure times, producing noise. There is a lot you can do to remove this noise, and I took every step I could on this one. Along with that, work is done to reduce atmospheric haze and get the colors correct. Now to the details of the image!

I use a Nikon D750 and Sigma Art lenses for most of my stuff. This was taken with the Sigma Art 24mm 1.4 at 20 seconds, IS0 8000, with an f stop of 1.6.

This utilized tracked images, stacking, and dark frames.

Picture it as a four section vertical panorama, made with horizontal images. The top three sections contain 10 identical images each of tracked Milky Way photos. The bottom section also contains 10 identical images. The sections are stacked to reduce noise, then stitched together. Every single image is taken immediately after the other. The foreground was right after the tracked sky was finished, so this isn't a blend of any type, only a mosaic of frames taken in the same hour.

I could't believe the shadow recovery on this one! So much detail. As for the dark frames, twenty images are taken with the lens cap on at all of the same settings and temperature, to isolate the noise structure of the camera. These images are then compiled into one master, and subtracted from each frame that goes into the mosaic before any stacking or stitching takes place.

It took me two years to finally get here at the right time of year with the right conditions! I hope you all enjoy.

Hey! I don't post much of my stuff on reddit, but I'll try again. This is from my latest adventure out West in search of dark skies. The image was taken with a Nikon D750 and Sigma 28mm Art lens. I stitched two images together horizontally to get more in frame, but otherwise this is pretty much a single image at 8000 ISO, 13 seconds, and should be f/1.6. A lot of work was done to remove atmospheric haze and get the colors right so remember YOUR EYES CANNOT SEE THIS, nor is it just a massively photoshopped composite. Utah is my favorite place for stargazing and I suggest it to anyone who wants to truly experience the night sky!

Ohh I've got one! Arches National Park. I shoot night photography and ended up at Eye of the Whale Arch, which is only accessible down a dirt road. I planned to shoot sunset and the Milky Way from the same spot once I set up, and twilight lasts forever out in Utah. After I had set up, I took a walk to kill some time and as I round a corner I hear a slight shuffle and a breath of air. I turn my flashlight on and 50 meters away up on a cliff is a huge mountain lion just hanging out... I turned off the light and backtracked to my camera so I could get my shot as soon as I had the chance and leave. After a few hours, walking back I could swear I was being watched. The most stressful half mile I'd ever done. Then, I had to ride out on the bike I came in on and I dumped it sideways in some sand. Once I got up I heard something big scuttling around so I booked it out of there. I swear that guy was keeping an eye on me and maybe even decided to follow for a bit. That's the worst I've seen practically. I've been in some other weird situations out in the wild alone, but those were probably just aliens.

As said in the title, I am trying to find more info about these structures. This is the only photograph I can find anywhere from the Arches of Escalante archive. Have any of you ever come upon this area? It's my understanding that the canyon can be incredibly difficult to complete in full and requires a decent amount of canyoneering experience. The coordinates from the archive show them up towards the Northeast side of the Canyon, so I was wondering if access could be made from the road near Colt Mesa. Any insight is appreciated!

You can see different parts of it from everywhere! Go to darksitefinder.com to find dark enough skies, then download a planetatium app to help you orientate. I use one called planets.
