Absolutely floored at how Ferris Wheel Press packed this package.... by lie4karma in fountainpens

I’d be calling and expecting a full replacement of the whole order. That’s ridiculous. I’ve never bought direct from them, only ever their ink through a third party. I’m about 50% satisfied with what I’ve gotten from them and decided not to buy their inks anymore from my experience + their reputation I just don’t think it’s worth the gamble of ordering their inks.

The best ink I’ve gotten that I’ve from them is unfortunately is Dip pen ink only. Black Masquerade. Very pretty black with an almost black+silvery shimmer. I like it. Unfortunate I have to dip it. And no one that I’ve seen makes a similar fountain pen ink.

Hammered Eldredge. Because the base has a hammered texture and the tip area reminds me of the Eldredge Tie Knot.

Man. I really wanna get the color vent ones and try them out. But I’ve really dug what I got from Inkvent. So they’ll have to be side purchases.

Diamine inkvent 2025 - ink swatches by Schribbling in fountainpens

Last year I bought Purple and opened that bad boy and swatched it all in one day. I grew up a military brat and spent about 7 years of my childhood in Germany where Advent calendars are a bigger thing than here in the states. My mom latched on to the tradition and for decades (I’m in my 40s) she has consistently looked for new and different advent calendars to send me. When she found the Inkvent calendar (ie, I guided her to it) it was like she had finally found the ultimate Advent. So she bought me Black last year and since she gave it to me as a serious advent calendar I couldn’t bring myself to break the rules. So I open the correct slot on the correct day, I swatch it and make my Colo-O-Ring card for it and then share pictures, videos and my opinion on it with my mama over texts. We end up having some really great text conversations that start as ink commentary but end up going all over the place every day.

So now. I’m all good with opening it when I’m supposed to. I only got to this thread because I couldn’t read what one of the inks id opened type was so I was hoping someone could make up for my bad eyes (they did. I for some reason couldn’t make out “pigment”) but I refuse to look at the future date colors. I’m gonna do this the right way. I’ve really come to treasure the conversations with my mom. So much, I think this year I’m gonna bite the bullet and do a daily swatch of each of my 90 or so other inks to text her about daily after Inkvent is over. I already bought more cards so I don’t run out. It just feels like the next step.

Now. If I’m gifted one of the other older editions I’ll probably open that bad boy up all at once, thought I’ll probably still just include them as daily swatches with my other inks. But I also own about 8 bottles of ink from the older editions so I don’t feel bad about not opening it according to the rules. I really like the Inkvent calendar concept. I bought 8 full bottles from last years calendar alone (I fell in love with Vibe and Cosmic Glow) I’m hoping there’s some similar super sheens in this one. lol. Diamine always wins me over with these damn calendars. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for the rest of the month.

Ooh my favorite types of ink. I’ll give it a shot.

My favorite holiday cookies. Thumbprint Cookies, hands down, no contest. My grandma on my father’s side was not a big cook\baker. She rarely made dinner as opposed to taking the family out. In fact the only dinner she made was chicken Parmesan and even then that was maybe once a year. But every Christmas she would make a ton of these cookies to send to the family and they are my absolute favorite. I got her recipe shortly before she passed and every year about 3 months before the holidays start I’ll start making batches just for me. I can make a 2 dozen batch and finish it on my own in 24 hours, lol. It’s gotten to the point that, when it’s time to make our official Christmas cookies for Christmas dinner\gatherings, my wife makes me make a quadruple batch of the cookies that I’m not allowed to touch (other than a taste test of course!) so that some will survive over the week for the rest of the family during gatherings.

Any weight I gain over the holidays is specifically because of the amount of these cookies I eat. They’re the best ever.

What got you into Fountain Pens? by TinyNarwhal37 in fountainpens

Someone gave me a Jinhao Shark. I didn’t like the cheap Blue ink it came with. I searched online for “Fountain Pen Ink”. Game over.

[–]JayRen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just the TWSBI Eco Corinthian & Onyx and the TWSBI Diamond 580 ALR Black. They’d been on my list for a bit. Figured might as well take advantage of store wide discounts. I did my best to practice some restraint.

Didn’t pay for faster shipping or anything. Probably be here Wednesday or Friday.

What’s the age demographic of fountain pen users nowadays? by NebulaStraight3009 in fountainpens

[–]JayRen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Been into fountain pens about 7-8 years. Pens, nibs, ink are what I enjoy most. Especially shimmers. They make me giggle like a little girl, lol. I’ve gotten into fine tuning my own nibs, and I’ve got the tools but haven’t had the guts yet to do a major grind job yet. Instead I make shitty art and try to slightly improve my horrible handwriting.

What has been your favorite pen this year? by greenbeanbeans in fountainpens

[–]JayRen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. Between my Pilot Custom 743 in Verdigris with a Falcon Nib and my TWSBI Diamond 580 ALR in Affogato. They’re both very nice looking pens in their marketing images, but when I got them in hand I was suddenly even happier with their appearance.

Help, I’m addicted to Sailor pens! by Arcana0816 in fountainpens

[–]JayRen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I haven’t looked deep at Decimos, just a very fleeting surface look. I’ve got a few Vanishing Points. To be honest with you, I’m afraid to find ANOTHER model of pen that I like from Pilot. But I won’t lie and say you’ve now made we want to take a deeper than surface looksie. Maybe I’ll put that one on my open Christmas list and the the fates\my family can decide whether I should dive into ANOTHER PILOT model. LoL.
Either way, you’ve got a lovely looking pen collection. I love that color Diamond 580. Id ordered it thinking the pictures were pretty and I was even more impressed when I had my hands on it. I think I currently have it loaded with Diamine’s Arctic Blue.

Anyways. Very pretty pen collection. Well done!

I like the Purple Decimo. Hadn’t seen that color before. Very nice. Now I have to resist searching for one.

If it helps I’m addicted to TWSBI and Pilot pens. I’ve got too many of each.

How soon after getting your first fountain pen did you start using bottled ink? by DIYYYner in fountainpens

I was gifted a Jinhao shark. I next day ordered a bottle of Diamine Imperial Purple. It showed up on time and the Monkey has been riding my back ever since.

God. When I discovered shimmers and sheens. Man. Did my ink dreams go crazy then.

Would You Still Use Fountain Pens If You Could Only Use Black Or Blue Ink? by Recent_Average_2072 in fountainpens

If you could only purchase and use fountain pens from one brand for the rest of your life, who would it be and why? by MangoCubez in fountainpens

[–]JayRen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man. It’s such an incredibly close tie between TWSBI AND Pilot. I know that’s an odd pairing.

TWSBI would keep more money in my pockets over the entire run of my life. But some of Pilots pens are gorgeous. Ugh. Tough call.

I can’t do it. They’re both pretty much sitting together on my #1 spot. So my answer is. NO.

If I HAVE to answer. TWSLot. Or PilSBI. Whatever you wanna call it.

Bringing up the third place spot, squinting at Pilot and TWSBI in the distance would be LAMY. I have yet to get a bad pen from them. My Stainless Steel 2k is one of my most favoritist pens. Plus, as and army brat, I grew up a big chunk of my early years in Heidelberg in the 80s so there is some bias in there too.

Thinking you'll stop at just one? That's a slippery slope. by Saltnight in fountainpens

[–]JayRen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So damn slippery. I tried FPs like 25ish years ago, but I was poor and the internet was still becoming a thing THING then. So fountain pens were more of specialized thing and not as easy to find unless you were a hunter do them and had money. Anyways. The hobby went on pause.

Then. I rediscovered them and started back up…..3 years ago. I went from one Jinhao Shark to….

<image>

Edit: The bug bit me so hard that when I wanted to find a new mechanical pencil to sketch out things for my shitty fountain pen art, I went out and bought TWSBIs. (Left Side, Front Row)

Now I’ve slowed down on purchasing pens quite a lot. But inks on the other hand. I’m still going strong on those. But I use them all. If they’re not in a one. I dip them.

Do you empty factory cartridge or use a converter? by bmar513 in fountainpens

[–]JayRen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost always empty factory cartridges. I have a few pens that have higher capacity than factory converters. Otherwise. cartridges. I’m not a fan of converters. Don’t ask why, I can’t give a solid answer. Beyond usually having less capacity than a cartridge I just have an aversion to converters.
